Our House Project

Someone tells me I need to update this thing.  Problem is, there's either not enough to say or too much to say.  :)

We bought a house out in the country, but on a busy Hwy.  We are planning to have our car dealership there and also have a small homestead where we can live a little more off the land(eventually).  We closed on the house on May 2nd and have been working hard on it ever since.  Seems like the deeper we dig, the more work we find.  This house was shared by mice, so we've had a lot of major cleaning to do as well as the following things.

Things we've done:

  • Wash and Kilz ceilings (smokers)
  • Paint kids' bedrooms and trim in bedrooms (very time consuming!)
  • Replumb the water lines
  • remove toilet and tub from bathroom
  • remove and burn all carpet
  • remove all wallboard in kitchen & dining area
  • remove and replace subfloor in kitchen due to leak under sink
  • remove cabinets in order to get to that floor
  • Repair cabinet with water damage
  • paint kitchen and living room
  • Kilz the rest of the house before any painting happened
  • mow, mow, mow
  • tear down cracked sheetrock above fireplace and replace...then tear back down part of it.  :)
  • Yard graded so water would flow away from the house and lots of shrubbery removed
  • fix sump pump in basement, clean out debris from basement
  • brace floors in living room
  • peel wall size poster sticker from coat closet door (Thanks Darla!)
  • clean all kitchen cabinets inside and out
  • tear out part of floor in living room so that it won't be spongy any more.  need to finish replacing
  • carpet installed in kids' rooms
  • 2 light fixtures installed
  • Kilz and paint bathroom
  • Mortar under tub
  • Install tub
  • Install toilet
  • install flooring in bathroom
  • finish painting dining room and hall, including baseboards & trim
  • finish repairing ceiling sheetrock in LR
  • finish repairing subfloor in LR
  • install kitchen and dining area wood laminate flooring (changed kitchen to tile instead)
  • put in vinyl by the front door
  • have LR and hall carpet installed

Things we still need to do:

  • Install kitchen cabinets and countertop, sink and faucet
  • finish touch up painting in kitchen
  • finish trim painting in kitchen
  • install 2 ceiling fans and 5 light fixtures
  • switch out outlets and switches
  • Take bathroom counter to get cut to size, then tear out and install new counter and faucet
  • Clean all the smoke tar off of windows
  • put in new front door

I know there's more but these are the most important.  :)  I'm sure there's more we've actually done, too.  I won't bore you with the projects that took 2-7 days to do because we ran into so many different types of problems!  Our lists are long, but it looks like we've gotten a lot of the long part taken care of and everything will just look like progress now!   We are so exhausted from working on this continuously!  We're ready to get back to a more normal life.  The rest of our carpet is due to be installed on June 30th.  Hopefully most of these projects will be done by then.  We could close on our current house at any time when we'll HAVE to move out there, but we're hoping it will all just fall into place easily.  After we move, I'll be ready for VACATION!!  We plan to take a trip to Colorado when we can find the time to spare!

Whoa doggies!! I thought our remodel was full of surprises but your's sounds even more so. We are still living with my brother while we work on the endless list on the house. We plan to move in by the end of June but that means everything must fall in place...sigh. Hugs, J
