I have found a wonderful resource for getting kids excited about reading.  It is called Book Adventure.  It is a free reading incentive program sponsered by the Sylvan Learning Centers.  Basically you can register you children in the program and they earn prizes for reading books that they choose and answering very short quizzes. The quizzes are multiple choice and fairly easy.  Also they give you two chances to take the quiz and they keep the better score between the two. The prizes are pretty cool according to my son who loves this program.  He was a very reluctant reader until I introduced him to this program  Now, not only does he want to read, he wants to challenge himself to read harder books because he can earn more points which adds up to more prizes.  He thinks it is a fun game and I am just tickled to see him reading because he wants to instead of beacause I said so.   Right now he is saving his points up for a subscription to highlights magazine.  He is about halfway there.
