Here are a few resources I have come across lately that are really great.
SEARCHLit.org is a site with printable books and literature guides that go along with the books. You can also order a free CD with all the books on it. There are lesson plans and quizzes if you like that sort of thing. There are book lists by grade and time periods.
Here is a small list of the books on the CD.
- The Adventures of Robin Hood
- Captains Couregeous
- The Call of the Wild
- David Copperfield
- The Jungle Book
- Pride and Prejudice
- The Secret Garden
- War of the Worlds
- Wind in the Willows
There are many, many more. Hope this is helpful to someone. If you would rather listen to a story here are two sites that offer a new story each week that you can download and listen to on you computer or on an MP3 Player.
I am always looking for fun ways to help my son practice his multiplication facts. I downloaded this game for him. He saw that it was an educational game and thought it couldn't be as fun as one of his other games. He sat down and after he got the hang of the way the game is played he didn't want to stop. I also have some more educational games on the sidebar. Enjoy.
This last thing is just an interesting article I came across. I am not to thrilled with how much emphasis is put on becoming a teenager. I like the idea of raising young adults instead. Unfortunately there is way too much negativity attached to the word teenager. One of my daughters friends was excited about becoming a teenager some day as if they would be entering some magical land or exclusive club. Kalene who turned 13 this year replied "You know there really isn't any difference" So hopefully she is catching on that it isn't about some special age in which you suddenly are older and more mature. Maturity is subjective anyway. One 13 year old can be sooo different in maturity compared to another 13 year old. And now for your reading enjoyment.
That's it for today.
