This was our first year to do any standardized testing on Kalene. That was back in May. We have been waiting for the results to get here. Well today there they were in my mailbox. I could here myself let out a long breath as I opened the envelope. I guess I had been holding my breath since May? Anyways I should not had even been the least concerned. She did great!. I will admit that I was really relieved to see that she hasn't been damaged by homeschooling. At least not academically.
We already knew that she might be a little below average in math. But what really surprised me is that she did fine with everything but Algebra and that is where she scored a little low. Well she hasn't done any Algebra yet. That is what we'll be working on this year. So she really did Okay in math.
She took the 8th grade test, here are the results . . .
She scored above 9th grade in Language, Science, Social Science, Complete Battery (Not sure what this is). Of course her reading levels were all high - like 10th grade and up. She even scored post high school in listening skills.
She scored average in Math procedures, Spelling, Thinking Skills, and Basic Battery (Again I am unsure what this is).
We will be focusing more on math this year. Also we will work more closely on grammer. But other that that I think we will continue to do what we have been doing. I will say that although I shouldn't use this test to measure how I am doing at teaching Kalene, it has given me a great confidence boost.
This was a pleasant surprise for me today and I had to share it. Now I am off to pack some more boxes. Our house is "Officially" for sale and on the market. We have rented a storage to clear out some of our "stuff" and help make the house appear larger. Tricky I know.
One last thing my friend Rob has a neat post about his mission trip to Peru complete with pictures. You can find it here.
