This has been a very good week for us. What began as a nuisance has turned into a welcomed distraction. Rich's Transmission on his truck started slipping pretty badly last week. On Monday morning he couldn't get on the freeway to go to work because the truck wouldn't go into 2nd gear. So he came home to get my car. It has been a long time since we have been a single vehicle family. I called and made arrangements with another girls mom on the volleyball team to get Kalene to her practice. This lady has been such a blessing to me. She is just one of those people that you want to spend time with because they are so full of joy.
So that afternoon after Rich got off work we SLOWLY drove his truck to the transmission shop. They told us it would only take 2 days. We would have the truck back Wednesday night or Thursday morning at the latest. Well they didn't even get it in to the garage until yesterday. So unfortunately we are still down to only one car. We have had to rearrange a lot of things and even change our plans altogether. I have written about how busy I've been lately. So it took a broken transmission to slow me way down.
It has been a blessing in disguise. We have had a lot of time to just hang out together. We love this kind of time. But with everything that has been going on we couldn't afford to sleep in, watch movies, play board games, stay in our P.J's all day, and bake cookies for no reason at all. Yeah I know that maybe it doesn't sound like much but it is during these times that we are able to really talk about stuff. It is also when we are able to reconnect. I was also able to notice a few discipline type areas that needed some attention and TLC.
Isn't this just like God? What He did was totally push the pause button on our lives. Doesn't He do this with you too? You know you are just moving along through your life doing whatever it is you do and then something comes along to completely halt everything. He gives us these times to see the way things really are. To hash out some issues or discipline problems so that we can get on with the things he has for us to do. We would never stop on our own. Humans are so performance driven that we rarely would stop of our own accord. But God can see ahead of us and He knows what we need. So He stops us to deal with these things and then reconnect with Him. He wants to see what we really value. And when it comes down to the nitty gritty all that really matters is our relationship with God and our relationships with people. Not our jobs, homes, cars, ministries, ect....
So when God comes along and pauses your life how will you respond? Self rightgeousness or Humility?
