So this is my first year homeschooling a highschooler. At the beginning of the year I was very intimidated. I suppose I was overwhelmed by all the things I thought I had to do right. As the year went on I realized that my style just would not allow me to be too ultra organized or scheduled. As soon as I start trying to be that way, it negatively affects both of my kids. We are a relaxed homeschool family for sure. Although I do know that there are things I want both of my kids to know, I am not stressing out over exactly when they learn them.
At the beginning of the year I took a look at what other nineth grade classes in public school were expected to accomplish by the end of the year. And do you know what I found out? They really aren't doing much. So although Kalene loves to read. There is no reason she has to read a gazillion books by the end of the year.
Here is an interesting video that Growing Fruit had linked on their blog.
I have read some interesting things regarding early college enrollment which we are seriously considering. Possibly next year. Shelly has done an excellent job of walking you through the steps to making this a successful endeavor. I am so blessed to have someone who has gone through this in my neighborhood who is willing to share her experience. She also has her sons highschool plan on her blog. I have used several of her links to plan for this year.
I recently found another blog which is dedicated to helping frazzled parents of highschoolers navigate the road to adulthood while continuing to homeschool. This blog has been a source of encouragement and empowerment for me.
