Blogger Friend School Assignment #24

Posted in Blogger Friend School

It's time for another assignment from the Blogger Friend School.  Here's what Nancy has come up with for us this week.

Here's what she had to say about the assignment ~

This week's assignment is The Three R's -- Reduce, Recycle, and Re-use.  I thought since today is Earth Day and this month is Arbor Day that we all could share ideas or tips that we use for recycling, reducing or re-using items in our home.  Do you recycle at all?  Does it just seem nearly impossible to recycle?  Trying to catch every piece of trash that goes into the garbage is a hard one for me too.  I have a friend who is very diligent with it and so are her children!  It amazed me to see how they re-spect nature and use the Three R's in their home.  I challenge you all to write about your ventures with recycling, reducing, and re-using your trash and take a pledge to at least try to use some of the tips that you read about on this assignment.  Don't forget to add your favorite scripture for this assignment.

Well I have to admit that we are probably really lacking in this area.  Although we are a family that tries to reuse whenever we can.  We don't recycle at all (other than pop bottles.)  Uhggg!

I have been mulling over the idea of recycling for a few days now.  Earth Day seems to have been a huge event this year.  Everywhere I turned I kept getting the message that I need to wake up to recycling.

There are a few things that I already do.  Reusable grocery bags comes to mind.  I'm sure there is more.  Okay maybe there isn't.  (Please, not tomatoe throwing)  This assignment has been a rude awakening to me.  Am I really nothing more than a consumer?  I don't know, I guess there is a little bit of this in all of us.  But I do think there is always room for improvement.  I can't wait to hear other's ideas for Re-duce, Recyle, and Re-use.  I can definately use all the pointers I can get at this point.

~OUR PLEDGE ~

We will become more aware of the ways we can Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle and then implement them into our lives.  (I think we need to get a recycling bin.)

Psalm 24 The Earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the  waters.

Kristie, I love your heart!

Before I even knew what the assignment was, I did some thinking about this. (See yesterday's blog entry.) We actually never looked to see what the guidelines were for our recycling program here in town. We have huge bins, and we typically toss in a few things each week. I now know that we could have been recycling much more than we do! :'O

We are making a similar pledge with our efforts in things like this. I have thrown things out without thinking about it in the past, just because of the hassle to find a way to get it to someone who will use it. Oops. Not anymore, I hope.

Have a fantastic day!

Blessings,

Jen

You're probably more considerate than you realize to the earth...I didn't think we were doing that much until I started reading posts from other people, and saying to myself, "self, you already do these things, but you didn't write them down." Hee Hee. My daughter has been on our backs to recycle, so thus the assignment...LOL

but we are trying. I'm sure you do more than you think you do without even thinking about it(ie: buying in bulk, planning your trips to be efficient, etc..) Wonderful pledge and I really love your verse.

I am more of a consumer than I like to think too. But I bet, like me, you actually do more than you realize!! This assignment was well-timed for me as well - made me think about recycling in terms of looking after GOD's creation, than as something I have to do the "save the earth" ;~)

Blessings,
Kym

Great verse! I know for a fact that you do more than you realize. :-) What about your "how low can you go" thermostat challenge? Conserving energy counts, ya know! :-)

Love ya,
~Andrea

I think a lot of this has to do with where we live too. It's so easy to be a consumer in the burbs.. everyone is doing it, your neighbours don't question you etc.. - the real eye opener is when you move to the country, to a big piece of land.. where no cars travel, and suddenly you realize things like water and garbage disposal are a luxury of city dwelling.

Baby steps, make small changes today that will be a huge habit later..
