Well we had a pretty full week. Yesterday Kalene was saying how long the week has been. I agree. Although I don't know why it feels so long exactly. We really didn't do anything new or unusual. I guess maybe it is because the days are getting longer with the sun going down later?
We got a chunk of schoolwork done, which is great.
Richie is still working his way through his spelling and science book. He is also continuing with his math. He is reading Prince Caspian and will begin reading something new today. The choices are Beorn the Proud by Madeleine Polland. Castle Diary The Journal of Tobias Burgess by Richard Platt. Or Viking Ships at Sunrise by Mary Pope Osborne. I am actually pretty sure that he'll choose the last book. I just like to give him options.
When it comes to reading, I am not that strict. I like him to be reading everyday. I also think that it is important to let him chose what he would like to read. And I give him the leeway to switch books if he doesn't like one that he has already started. What matters most to me is not how high his reading level is. I really want him to learn to love reading. And after a few years of him saying that he hates reading, he starting to actually like reading. So that's enough for me.
Kalene also is plugging away. She amazes me with her self motivation. I am really blessed by that. I used to feel like I was following behind her all day making sure that she was getting her work done. But there has been a definate change this year in her. She is taking responsibility for her own education. That doesn't mean she doesn't still need me. It means that instead of it being important to me that she is learning. Now it is important to her. I prayed that this day would come and it has. Thank you Lord!
I was planning to take field trips for the rest of the year on Fridays. But this weeks field trip will have to wait until Monday. I desparately need a day at home. I like being at home a lot. And I am looking forward to having an at home day. I have a few plans for my day, but I'm not going to stress out about getting it all done. I just want to enjoy a day at home with my kids. I think we'll definately spend some time in the yard. Maybe we'll take school out there too.
Alrighty, that's enough rambling for one post. I hope you also will have a great day in the Lord!
