The Perfect Piece Of Jewelry

Posted in Family

There is going to be a Homeschool Prom this year, and Kalene wants to go.

We went to the mall and tried on some dresses last week.  She chose one that was very pretty on her without being immodest.  It was so sweet to see her all dressed up.  She is not usually a dress wearing kind of girl.

Practically all of the girls from the varsity and JV volleyball teams are going.  So that should be a ton of fun for them all.  They have really bonded this year.  I can see some of them being friends for life, and I think that is really a special thing to have.  They call each other family.

But back to the Prom plans.  I know it is not until the end of the year, but maybe I am almost as excited as she is about her going.

We will have to find some nice jewelry to compliment the dress she gets.  I have heard that bridesmaid jewelry is perfect for the occasion.  Kalene said she did not want to wear any jewelry.  But I told her that the right jewelry will make the dress look that much more beautiful.

It is a good thing I do have quite a few months because it may take that long to convince her to wear the jewelry too.

It's That Time Again - Pest Control

Posted in Family

It is definately feeling a lot like fall today.

I love this time of year.  I love the way it's kind of chilly out.  But, even though there are all kinds of reasons why I love this time of year, there is one thing that I do not look forward to at all.

Every year at this time we have to be on the look out for pests.  I am talking about mice specifically.  Our house is on a crawl space foundation and I think that might make it easier for them to get in.

This all started after we first bought our house.  Fall came and so did the mice.  I'm not a fan of mice at all.  But I also do not like the idea of paying exterminators to come out to my house and do the exterminating.

Instead I believe that pest management is where it is at.  If I can manage the mice population before it starts things are fine.

We have gotten very good at doing our own pest control

We pay special attention to keeping our food in air tight storage containers and also keeping our counters and floors clean.

Iput traps out this time every year just in case.  So far we hav had good results when we make this a priority every fall.

Three Ways to Cut Your Budget

Posted in Frugality

With all this talk about the economy lately I sure am glad that I've already begun to live more frugally.

There are lots of ways to cut your budget if you can be creative.

I wrote a post at This Side of Eternity recently that touches on thre of those ways.

You can read that post Here.

I am planning to write more about the ways I have found to cut my budget.  Every cent counts right?

I've Remodeled My Office Area

Posted in Keeping the Home

I haven't really remodeled it, but it sure does feel like I have.

I have been spending almost the entire day cleaning my office area in my house.

It was an absolute disaster area.  I do not know how it gets so bad so quickly.  The other thing I do not know is how in the world we have been getting through school lately with how disorganized this area has been.

But I am glad to be getting it all done.  It is looking so much better.  I had thought about taking before and after pictures.  But I am not ready for anyone to know how bad it really was :-)

I also found that I have a ton of homeschooling stuff that I do not need anymore.  I have been thinking about opening an Amazon store.  I do not have any idea how much work is involved in that, but I am going to look into it this week.

Now that it is finally looking much more organized I can not help but start to look at the rest of the room.

My desk is pretty old and not all that functional really.  I would love to replace it with new home office furniture from Max Furniture

But if I were to do that then I would start to look at the rest of the funiture in the room.  My office area is in my family room.  And I really can't afford to replace my living room furniture too.

Lord please teach me to have a content heart.

MMA Makes Him Happy

Posted in Family

A couple of posts back I wrote about how my son loves guns.  I should add that he also seems to be drawn to weapons of any kind.

I did not intend to raise a son who would be so drawn to these things.  It was bound to happen.

You see his dad is the same way.  He has always loved to fight.  He trains once a week in mixed martial arts and Kenpo.  It started out as a fun way to get in shape, but it has become more.

Now he watches the MMA fights whenever he can which means Richie watches them as well.    The more they get into it , the more MMA Gear they will need.  It seems like every other week there are some new pads, gloves, or mats that are needed.

To be honest, although this isn't really my kind of fun, I don't much care if it is their kind of fun.  Please tell me I am not the only wife who spends the evening alone when there is fighting on TV.

Just A Bit Of Structure

Posted in Home School Thoughts

Well it would seem that my plan to be a very unscheduled homeschooler has failed.

It all started with Richie.  He came to me the first week of school and asked for a schedule.  Nothing complex, just something to show hime hat to do each day.

Of course I complied even though I was a little stunned.

Then yesterday Kalene asks me if I'll schedule her schoolwork each week for her.  Thi way she knows what is expected of her each week.

So once again I complied.

I am here to say welcome to our much more structured homeschool!
