School Is In Session

Posted in Home School Thoughts

Well school is officially back in session.

Although we will all miss our lazy days of summer, I think everyone is ready for some sort of routine again. My days are filling fast and so a routine is going to be somewhat necessary if I am going to keep my sanity.

Here is what we have chosen to use for this year so far.  I say "so far" because I tend to change things throughout the year.

~ Kalene ~

Bible  - Enjoying Your Journey With God.  She'll also read War of the Worldviews, Fearfully and Wonderfully Made, and In His Steps.

Math - Finish Teaching Textbooks Algebra and move on to either Algebra 2 or Geometry.  (Not sure which order we want to do yet.)

Science - Kalene had requested Lifepacs for science this year.  We haven't actually done any high school science yet.  (Although she did score post high school on her Standardized testing)

History - Again she has requested Lifepacs for this.  Also working together through Around the World in 180 Days over the next 2 years.

Vocabulary - Wordly Wise.  She is doing the 12th grade book and having no problems with t at all.  I picked this up for super cheap at a used sale and had no idea it was for 12th grade.  But she seems to be doing fine with it.

Language Arts - Maybe you could guess that she has Lifepacs for this as well.  She isn't too sure that she likes these ones though.

These are the Literature selections chosen for this year so far -

The Hiding Place
David Copperfield
The Scarlet Letter
The Catcher in the Rye
Moby Dick
Nineteen Eighty Four

Of course she'll ad about 100 more to that as the year progresses.

~ Richie ~

Math - Finish up Math Mammoth books.  I haven't totally decided where to go from here.  Possibly Teaching Textbooks.

Science - Discover Science.  Also It Couldn't Just Happen and Christian Liberty Nature Reader #5

History - We are finishing up Story of the World Book 2 right now and then we'll move on to book 3.  We are also going to work through Around the World in 180 Days over the next 2 years.

Spelling - Megawords.  This is a new program for us, so not too much to say about it yet.

Language Arts - I picked up a set of Lifepacs for him from a used booksale for $5.  So we'll try it and see how it goes.  So far, after one day, he likes it.

Writing - He wants to finish the last Italics book.

Bible - Keys for Kids and his Patch book from Wednesday night church.

Phonics - Explode the Code.  He really is beyond this series already.  But he asked to do it.  I think it helps him with his confidence or something.

Extras :

How to Use A Thesarus
Test Prep Workbook
Typing (Computer)
Geography (Computer)

Literature Selections so far:

The Incrdible ourney
Lad: A Dog
The Borrowers
A Wrinkle in Time

Add in there a ton of field trips.  And piano, basketball, art, volleyball, soccer, and who knows what else.  It ought to be an exciting year though.
