Patience Necessary
Being a teacher to my own children has been the greatest adventure ever. There have been many ups and downs. Like the time my son finally started to really get reading after such a long time of it not clicking for him.
Struggling Readers are the most difficult kids to teach because they come to the table already discouraged. It takes a lot of patience for a teacher to walk a child through the reading process. But it is so worth it when you see your child cross that bridge from being a struggling reader to being a confident reader.

I think one of the wonderful things about homeschooling is that our kids are not put in a room and compared to all the others. We all know that children learn to read at different ages, but when they are in a classroom with students that were reading at 4 years old, it can be so discouraging to a "slower" reader that they give up and spend much of their school years with a negative stigma. Isn't it wonderful that our later learners don't realize they are "late" at all. They can still be confident and proud of their accomplishments as they should be!
