Blogger Friend School Assignment #28

Posted in Blogger Friend School

Waterfall with Cross

Nancy has the latest assignment up on her blog.  Here is the assignment for the week:

This week’s assignment is about fear. I’ve heard, though I don’t know for fact, that Jesus says in the Bible 365 times, “Do not fear”. I’m not going to sit down and count to find out if it’s that many times or not. It did leave me thinking about my own fears and what fears other people have. If we will be honest, there is something which each of us fears losing so much that it strains the limits of our faith to contemplate trusting it to God. Our life is perhaps the least of these, for surely there are worse fates than dying. Perhaps it is losing our wife, husband or child. Perhaps it is losing our freedom, our health or our mind. Tell your fear and how you handle it when you don’t let God take it for you.

Let me just start by confessing that I allowed fear to control me for way too many years.  This is a subject that is very close to my heart as I feel that I am walking in victory in this area right now.  The Lord has really taken me on a journey to finding freedom from fear over the last couple of years.  I never even realized how much I had allowed fear to control me.

It's funny to get the opportunity now to talk about it all.  I have suffered from many fears in my life.  But there are 2 that really dominated the scene.  The first was fear of not having control (Yes Nancy, you're not the only one).  The other was the fear of not being heard or being misunderstood.

Let's just say I grew up in a home that was slightly more dysfunctional that the average persons.  Although God has redeemed that area of my life, I was still suffering from the consequences of being in a totally out of control home.  The second fear comes from the same place as the first one.  I always thought that as long as I could control everything and everyone around me then I would never have to deal with the feelings I had when I was growing up and couldn't have any control of what was going on around me.  Of course this is an impossible task and will only leave you dealing with feelings of shame and defeat (And that's a topic for another day).

So I had to come to a place where I trusted that God was going to take care of me.  That I didn't need to worry about everything being just right.  That I didn't need to defend myself.  That I didn't need to explain myself.  You see it all comes down to the fact that when we are trying to do things ourself,  we are giving fear an open door to come right on in and take up residence.  Because of course if we are doing things ourself then we are eventually bound to fail.  And maybe that's where the real fear lies.  I don't know.  Of course now and then these fears try to find their way back into my life.  And sometimes I even let them visit for a while.  But I do recognize them a whole lot quicker now.  And usually they don't make it past the front door.

I have learned to replace the fear with the truths that God has given me about myself.

Deuteronomy 31:6  Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you or forsake you.

2 Corinthians 10:5  We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Blogger Friend School Assignment #24

Posted in Blogger Friend School

It's time for another assignment from the Blogger Friend School.  Here's what Nancy has come up with for us this week.

Here's what she had to say about the assignment ~

This week's assignment is The Three R's -- Reduce, Recycle, and Re-use.  I thought since today is Earth Day and this month is Arbor Day that we all could share ideas or tips that we use for recycling, reducing or re-using items in our home.  Do you recycle at all?  Does it just seem nearly impossible to recycle?  Trying to catch every piece of trash that goes into the garbage is a hard one for me too.  I have a friend who is very diligent with it and so are her children!  It amazed me to see how they re-spect nature and use the Three R's in their home.  I challenge you all to write about your ventures with recycling, reducing, and re-using your trash and take a pledge to at least try to use some of the tips that you read about on this assignment.  Don't forget to add your favorite scripture for this assignment.

Well I have to admit that we are probably really lacking in this area.  Although we are a family that tries to reuse whenever we can.  We don't recycle at all (other than pop bottles.)  Uhggg!

I have been mulling over the idea of recycling for a few days now.  Earth Day seems to have been a huge event this year.  Everywhere I turned I kept getting the message that I need to wake up to recycling.

There are a few things that I already do.  Reusable grocery bags comes to mind.  I'm sure there is more.  Okay maybe there isn't.  (Please, not tomatoe throwing)  This assignment has been a rude awakening to me.  Am I really nothing more than a consumer?  I don't know, I guess there is a little bit of this in all of us.  But I do think there is always room for improvement.  I can't wait to hear other's ideas for Re-duce, Recyle, and Re-use.  I can definately use all the pointers I can get at this point.

~OUR PLEDGE ~

We will become more aware of the ways we can Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle and then implement them into our lives.  (I think we need to get a recycling bin.)

Psalm 24 The Earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the  waters.

Blogger Friend School #23

We have a new assignment from Nancy at The Kings Kreation.   You can read other's assignments here.

Heres the new assignment:

Sombra wrote, "I think it would be interesting to find out if some
of the other ladies have sunk their teeth into something new in the last
year or so, what are they enthralled with, what has claimed the fires of
their passion."  You can post pictures or as many things as you'd love to start doing for YOURself.  I stand corrected but I took it from Sombra's email that she meant OUR OWN passion and not something your children or husband would like you to learn.  Make sure you include a favorite scripture

I have always loved writing.  This year I have begun a few different writing opportunities.  I am learning a lot about financial planning.  And while this may sound like something that would be for my family, I am really interested in learning about it.  I am planning to go to college this year.  I'm not sure what for. . . Yet.  But I am starting none the less.  I am learning how to live below my means.  I would love to take some time this year to read a bunch of classics.  I guess that's not much of a list, but I suppose the list will grow as the year goes on.

Hebrews 4:16    I can find grace and mercy in the time of need.

Blogger Friend School Assignment #22

Posted in Blogger Friend School

Here's Nancy's assignment for the week.  You can read other assignments Here.

For this week's assignment I thought it would be fun to share our dinner plans for the night or if you're organized enough for the week.  You can include pictures if you desire.  Also tell what your family likes to drink, if you have desserts or not.  If you want to then take this assignment and let all the children in your life make dinner for the night.   Please add your favorite verse for this assignment as it might be an encouragement for someone else.  This week's assignment is short and sweet so have fun with it.

This is a super easy assignment for me this week.  I usually try to prepare a schedule of dinners a week in advance.  Otherwise it gets to be about 3:00 and I begin the dinner panic.  It also helps me save money when I need to buy groceries if I already know what I need to buy.  Then I don't end up getting a bunch of stuff that I don't really need.  So here is my menu for this week.

Monday: Tortillini and Garlic Bread

Tuesday:  Chicken Fried Rice

Wednesday:  White Chicken Chili

Thursday:  Pancakes and Sausage

Friday:  Kalene is cooking Tonight!

Saturday:  Stir Fry

Sunday: Parmesan crusted baked chicken, corn on the cob, and Roasted Garlic Rice

As you can see in the menu plan, Kalene is the Guest Chef in the the kitchen once a week.  That girl can cook.  Watch out Rachel Ray!  It is always a surprise when Kalene cooks.  So even I am not too sure what she has in mind this week.  Although I know it will be great.  Also, even though she is only scheduled to cook once a week, she helps me every night.  I am so thankful for her help.  I can't believe that it wasn't that long ago that I would fill the sink with sudsy water and push up a chair so she could wash her toy dishes.  Okay sorry about that quick detour down memory lane.

Philippians 1:3-6

I thank my God every time I remember you.  In all my prayers for all of you.  I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Shop ’till you Drop!

Nancy has the new assignment up.

Here's the assignment ~

This assignment I hope proves to fun and exciting! This week you are given $1000 PRETEND online spending money! The rules are simple for this assignment. Using ANY online store…write out a shopping list of what you would buy!  You can even post pictures of the items you're buying, if you want, it's not required.  These things should be things for YOURself ONLY!

List the name of the website with a link and include product item # and cost…you must use all your $1000 without going over!  As a bonus every commentator will have their name put in a basket and I will draw three names of people who have signed the Linky and commented to receive a special prize in the mail from me!  Have fun and my assignment is below as well.

Amazon

$599.00 -  Dyson Animal  I am a vaccuuming fanatic.  Oh the hours I would spend vaccuuming with this.  Goodbye dog hair!  Yahoo!  I'll finally win the war over pet hair.

$99.95 - Rachel Ray 3 piece knife set  Kalene and I have been spending a lot of time together cooking.  I was able to get this pan for @ $11 and I love it.  So I am sure her knives are great too.

$253.98 - Kitchenaid Mixer  I have had my eye on one of these for a couple of years now.

CBD

$24.99  Form-U-La by Barb Sheldon

CVS

$20  CVS Giftcard  Oh the damage I could do with this at CVS!

TOTAL $ 997.92

Okay, that was fun, back to reality.

Blogger Friend School Assignment #15

Posted in Blogger Friend School

Here are the directions for this weeks assignment:

For this assignment I wanted to see who's got the funniest, craziest, saddest, most creative or just best story about the family button box, button can or button jar.  I love buttons!  Any kind, any color, any size but mostly the vintage ones.  So, I thought it would be fun to tell stories about or show pictures of our button boxes, cans, or jars.

Well I don't really have a special story of my own to share so I thought that I would borrow my daughters button story.  My mom has a button jar which looks just like the one in the graphic above.  My daughter has always been fascinated by it.  There are no two buttons in there that match.  It is quite a colorful jar.  Anytime we are at her home Kalene likes to look at the buttons in the jar.  She has her favorites.  Last summer Kalene and my mom had a talk about the button jar.  After seeing how much the button jar means to Kalene she decided to bequeath it to her.  So although I don't have a button jar I do believe Kalene will continue the tradition as she gets older.

Blogger Friend School Assignment #14

Posted in Blogger Friend School

Blogger Friend School is now back in session.  Nancy has kindly offered to keep this going while Tamara gets the kinks worked out of her computer.

And this assignment is perfectly in time for Valentines Day.

BFS 14 - 2

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for showing me what true love is.  Thank you for looking at me and seeing all the hidden places and loving me anyway.  You have been my strength.  Thank you for showing me who I really am in you.  Thank you for all you have done for me.  I pray that as I continue to grow in you that I would be pleasing in your sight.  Thank you for keeping me humble and reminding me of who I am without you.  I love you Lord and I am truely enjoying this adventure that you have taken me on.

Eternally Yours

I love this song and I hope that it will bless you too.

Blogger Friend School Assignment #6

Posted in Blogger Friend School

This weeks assignment is to share a piece of your past and post a baby picture of ourselves.  Also to share a scripture that reminds you of your past.

I am so late doing this assignment.  You see I went to look for a baby picture of myself and discovered that I had packed away all of my photos.  Well I found this one stuck to the bottom of the box my iron is stored in.  So here it is.

baby me

1 John 3:1  How great is the love the father has lavished on us that we should be called children of God!  And that is what we are!
