Business Affairs

Posted in Family

With the beginning of the New Year, I can not help but want to get some things in order.

Now the Rich has been running his own business for a couple of years, I have learned a lot about what needs to be done to run a successful business.  We have had some hard times with the business as I am sure many people have this year.  Rich has had to go to work for someone else.

And, although Rich is not really accepting any new business, I still have to make sure that certain things remain in order for when he may be able to be completely on his own once again.
So I am planning to take all of next week to get our business affairs in order.  Of course I am talking about things such as banking, taxes, and business insurance.

I also really want to get things organized.  After a couple of years now, I feel that there are some changes that could be made to help things run a little more smoothly.

Free Christmas Carole Download

Posted in Family

Contrary to my earlier plans of getting my Christmas cards made and sent out early this year, here I sit with the boxes in front of my still waiting to be made out.  I am not sure what is causing my procrastination.  I guess I could blame it on busyness.  At any rate, they do need to be done.

After I finish our personal Christmas cards, I still need to order and send out our Business Christmas Cards.  So with this in mind, I'm feeling a little bit behind.  Thankfully I am pretty sure that I have found the right company to do the printing job for our business.  It is simply a matter of setting aside the time and getting it all done.

And now I must get serious and do it TODAY!  With Christmas less than two weeks away there is no more time to sit here procrastinating!

GalleryCollection.com is very easy to work with.  And they are running a couple of promotions that make working with them all that much nicer.

First of all, for any new customer who places an order with them for 250 cards or more, they will be entered to win 100 cards for free.  Now, I do not personally know 250 people to send Christmas cards to, but with our business it would be a good thing to have the cards already for this year and next year.  Maybe it would help my procrastination?

The next neat thing they are offering is a free download of the book Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.  This  is a wonderful story to read to your family at this time of year.

Christmas Thinking

Posted in Family

I can hardly believe how fast Christmas is approaching this year.

It seems like only yesterday we were setting the table for Thanksgiving dinner, and now I am planning for Christmas dinner.

Each year we choose to do all of our visiting on Christmas Eve.  This is strategic because I love to stay home on Christmas Day with my family and just hang out together.  Some of us do not even get dressed on this day.  We watched Christmas movies, or movies the kids might have gotten for Christmas and check out the new gifts everyone got.

I also cook a nice Christmas dinner.  This is something I love to do since we are not home for Thanksgiving.  I try to make it really nice even though it is just us.  I like to set the table and include a centerpiece. I was looking at a floral  Centerpieces  from 1-800 Flowers.  They have got some really pretty stuff.

I also like to light candles too.  And we use all of our nice dishes and silverware.  So even though our Christmas is very laid back, we still enjoy a great meal together.  I feel like it is my gift to my family.

Work Boots

Posted in Family

My husband is in the building trades as some of you may already know from reading this blog.  The one thing I feel like I am always buying is work boots.

I do not know if it is because we do not buy the most expensive boot or not.  But I have often thought that maybe he should invest in a decent pair of boots.  Then maybe we'd only have to buy them once in a while instead of every other month.

It seems like boots would be a worthwhile investment to me.

The Perfect Piece Of Jewelry

Posted in Family

There is going to be a Homeschool Prom this year, and Kalene wants to go.

We went to the mall and tried on some dresses last week.  She chose one that was very pretty on her without being immodest.  It was so sweet to see her all dressed up.  She is not usually a dress wearing kind of girl.

Practically all of the girls from the varsity and JV volleyball teams are going.  So that should be a ton of fun for them all.  They have really bonded this year.  I can see some of them being friends for life, and I think that is really a special thing to have.  They call each other family.

But back to the Prom plans.  I know it is not until the end of the year, but maybe I am almost as excited as she is about her going.

We will have to find some nice jewelry to compliment the dress she gets.  I have heard that bridesmaid jewelry is perfect for the occasion.  Kalene said she did not want to wear any jewelry.  But I told her that the right jewelry will make the dress look that much more beautiful.

It is a good thing I do have quite a few months because it may take that long to convince her to wear the jewelry too.

It's That Time Again - Pest Control

Posted in Family

It is definately feeling a lot like fall today.

I love this time of year.  I love the way it's kind of chilly out.  But, even though there are all kinds of reasons why I love this time of year, there is one thing that I do not look forward to at all.

Every year at this time we have to be on the look out for pests.  I am talking about mice specifically.  Our house is on a crawl space foundation and I think that might make it easier for them to get in.

This all started after we first bought our house.  Fall came and so did the mice.  I'm not a fan of mice at all.  But I also do not like the idea of paying exterminators to come out to my house and do the exterminating.

Instead I believe that pest management is where it is at.  If I can manage the mice population before it starts things are fine.

We have gotten very good at doing our own pest control

We pay special attention to keeping our food in air tight storage containers and also keeping our counters and floors clean.

Iput traps out this time every year just in case.  So far we hav had good results when we make this a priority every fall.

MMA Makes Him Happy

Posted in Family

A couple of posts back I wrote about how my son loves guns.  I should add that he also seems to be drawn to weapons of any kind.

I did not intend to raise a son who would be so drawn to these things.  It was bound to happen.

You see his dad is the same way.  He has always loved to fight.  He trains once a week in mixed martial arts and Kenpo.  It started out as a fun way to get in shape, but it has become more.

Now he watches the MMA fights whenever he can which means Richie watches them as well.    The more they get into it , the more MMA Gear they will need.  It seems like every other week there are some new pads, gloves, or mats that are needed.

To be honest, although this isn't really my kind of fun, I don't much care if it is their kind of fun.  Please tell me I am not the only wife who spends the evening alone when there is fighting on TV.

Check Out These Guns

Posted in Family

If you have been reading this blog for a while then you are probably aware of my families obsession with guns.

This all started with my husband being a hunter.  There have always been guns in the house.  And although we do keep them put up, we have always taught our kids gun safety.

Even when the kids are playing with toy guns the same rules apply that would apply if they were shooting real guns.  My kids have been taught that guns kill.  And they know this is true because they have seen it first hand when Rich brings home a dead deer.

Since I do know that they respect guns, it has never bothered me if they play with things like airsoft shotguns, pellet guns, bb guns, or paintball guns.

In fact they just got a paintball gun from their uncle before he left to become a part of the Navy.

Now they do make some very life like replica guns these days.  At Airgun Depot you will find numerous replica guns.  These are great for more than just play.  They are good for target practice.

I was amazed by all the guns that they have.  I'm not sure I want to show this site to my kids because they will definately want them.
