CVS Steals

Posted in Frugality

I had heard a rumor that several items at CVS were ringing up 90% off even though the shelf tag read full price.

I caught the tale end of this last year when it happened and was able to get my daughter some super cheap perfume that she loved. Well I hit 4 different CVS stores in search of several items in particular. I left a lot behind so maybe you'll score a few great deals as well.

6 Essence of Beauty Bath Robes $14.99 Regular Price I paid $1.49!
3 Wet & Wild Nail Care Kits $4.99 Regular Price I paid 49 cents!
1 Brittany Spears Greatest Hits Perfume Set $24.99 Regular Price I paid $2.49!
3 Womens Fragrance Collection Gift Sets $19.99 Regular Price I paid $1.99!
1 Gilette Fusion Gamer Razor $7.99 - $4.00 Coupon and received $4 ECB's back
3 Hello Kitty Digital Cameras $29.99 Regular Price I paid $2.99!
1 Glam Girl Ultimate Cosmetic Set (play makeup) $9.99 Regular Price I paid 99 cents!
1 Hannah Montana Bath Set $4.99 I Paid 49 cents!
2 Reed Diffuser/ Candle Gift Sets $14.99 Regular Price I paid $1.49!

I used $30 in Extra Care Bucks (ECB's), but I earned $4.00 in ECB's to use next week and I was able to get a ton of nice Christmas gifts practically free.

I am going to stash these away for Christmas next year. I have all the girls done now and it cost me less than $5.00!

Do You Use Ebates?

Posted in Frugality

I only recently started to hear about a company that pays you a percentage back for all you purchase through them.. The site is called ebates.  I still have a little more research to do before I say they are my favorite.  Although I have heard only great things about this company.  What I didn't know about them is that you can also find great online coupons through them as well.  I would have loved to know this when we rented our car from Enterprise.  I'd have liked to use an enterprise coupon for that trip.

Getting Debt Under Control

Posted in Frugality

With all of the stress going on now with the uncertainty of the economy I think that it is extremely important that we do not lose sight of who is in control here.

Is wallstreet in control?  I say no!  But there are many at this time who do believe that wallstreet is in charge.  Thankfully I have spent the last year working on becoming debt free.  Because of this I am not at all concerned that the economy seems to be heading in a downward spiral.

I cannot stress enough how important I think it is to be completely debt free.

One of the best options for getting rid of the credit cards is debt consolidation.  This is a much better option than bankruptcy. And it gives you a jump start on those out of contol rates on several cards.

When I started we had several credit card with high balances.  This was just the way we lived.  And I know that there are a lot of people who live every day using their credit cards to float them from month to month.

We live paycheck to paycheck.  But now that our credit is under control it is possible to start saving.  I do not think we will be able to save a ton of money right away.  But even starting by putting aside $5 a week is progress.  Before you know it, it won't seem so hard to squeeze $20 a week or more from your paychecks.

Black Friday

Posted in Frugality

Before my mom moved up north I always took advantage of the Black Friday sales.  These are those once a year sales that happen the day after Thanksgiving.  We always were able to find the most amazing deals which made Christmas shopping for gifts cost so much less.

Now that my mom lives up north we always go to stay at her place for the Thanksgiving holiday.

This means that we have not gone to the Black Friday sales since we have been going up north to stay with her.

But I do wonder what I am missing out on each year when I choose to stay home and visit with my family rather than stand in endless lines and see people at their worst.

I have heard the horror stories from my mom who always has to work these sales since she is in retail.

But now someone has made the Black Friday sales even more appealing to me.  It is now possible to shop the Black Friday sales without leaving the house at 5 am and standing in the cold waiting to get into one store like Target.

Instead I think I will stay home and find a comfy spot on the couch where I can check out all the best deals online at iblackfriday.

Three Ways to Cut Your Budget

Posted in Frugality

With all this talk about the economy lately I sure am glad that I've already begun to live more frugally.

There are lots of ways to cut your budget if you can be creative.

I wrote a post at This Side of Eternity recently that touches on thre of those ways.

You can read that post Here.

I am planning to write more about the ways I have found to cut my budget.  Every cent counts right?

Don't Let Your Cards Choose You

Posted in Frugality

I am reevaluating the credit cards that we currently have.

When Rich and I applied for our first credit card we went to the bank to do it.  I know that now most people will get at least one application in the mail practically everyday regardless of whether or not that person wants one.  This is so dangerous because it puts you in a position of getting credit card without fully understanding what they are.

CardHub helps you to sort through all of the VISA, MasterCard, American Express, Discover Credit Cards
. Which is so helpful because you don't want to find yourself in a contract with a credit card company that doesn't fit your needs.  It is so nice that you can do all of the research from your home before you ever choose which one you'll get.

When I did a search for my perfect card I was very pleased to see that the top choices for me were the cards I already carry.  I guess we have already made the right choices for us.

Insurance

Posted in Frugality

After my last post I remembered something else that I need to get in order in the next couple of days.  I am going to make all of our family doctor appointments.  I already did the dentist for eveyone.  Next I think I will move on to the eye doctors and ten check-ups.  It is very important to take care of your family.  It is so much better to keep your family well with regular check-ups.

Rich and I have been talking about some of the ways we would like to take care of our family.  One of the things we would like to do is get life insurance for the both of us.  In the past we thought this was a silly idea.  But now I realize that it is a very responsible idea.  Although we hate to think of the idea of dying we know that it is ineviable.

Life insurance is not all we have thought about.  There is also burial insurance which is so valuable.  We learned recently how expensive a burial is.  I wouldn't want to leave that burden on my family while they were already grieving.

One last thing that we really need to look at is mortgage insurance.  This is not just a piece of paper but an investment in peace of mind.  How great it will be to know that with mortgage protection insurance my house wil be paid for in the event that there is still a mortgage on it.  I never knew this was a real option.

So there you have.  We have entered our thirties and see our need for financial responsibility in more than one way.
