The Jesus Tree Ornaments by Gary Kennedy

Posted in My Faith

I know that it Christmas is a long way off and most of us are not even trying to think about Christmas just yet since we jst got through with it.

But I found this neat book that tells the
Meaning of Christmas in a unique way.

Gary Kennedy has done a wonderful job of telling the story of good versus evil in the history of mankind and how God has always had is hand on everything.

In this fast paced story called The Jesus Tree Ornaments
we meet a man named Thomas who, through a series of events is brought to the place where he must decide if he will embrace God or turn from him completely forever.

I think this sounds like a great gift to pass out to you christian and non christian friends this year for Christmas.

Strange Church?

Posted in My Faith

A couple of years ago I had the chance to experience what it was like to attend a church service that was being held in an old theater.

This was a very new experience for me.  But I remember thinking that although it was a little strange it was also pretty cool.  I loved the fact that it was outside the box compared to what one thinks of when they think about a church building.

But what I really loved about it was how it made going to church less religious.  It was awesome as a fairly new believer to see that worshipping God can take place anywhere, even in an old theater.

I have been hearing about these theater churches more and more these days.  If you've never heard of the you can Find out more.

If you happen to live anywhere near Silver Spring Maryland this is your chance to Find out more.

On October 22 & 23 there will be a first ever Theater Church conference held.

Have you ever attended a church service that was being held in a non-traditional location like an old theater?  What is the strangest place you have ever heard of a service being held?

What are your thoughts about turning an old theater into a church?

Birthverse

Posted in My Faith

Here is a really neato site. It is called Birthverse.
Basically you put in your birthdate and it gives you a verse for that birthdate.
I did all of my family. Here's what we got.

Me ~

John 3:21 NIV
But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.

Rich ~

Galatians 5:25 NIV
Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

Kalene ~

Ecclesiastes 11:5 NIV
As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a mother's womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.

Richie ~

Romans 12:16 NIV
Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

Thankful Thursday

Posted in My Faith

I have been overwhelmed with gratitude this week.  It's nothing that actually happened, although I am quite sure that if I were to think about it I could come up with a bunch of things to be thankful for.

But this week the Lord has really made me see exactly who I was to become without him.  I am so thankful that he pulled me out of the pit I was in and gave me new life.  I am thankful that he didn't allow me to become the person I was well on my way to becoming.  And more than that I am thankful of the person I am today.

I'm also thankful that he isn't nearly done.  And that really is something to be thankful for as I know I have a long way to go.  But I am thankful that he knows exactly how to deal with me, and that he is full of grace and mercy.  I look forward to all he wants to do with me.  I can't always believe all that he's already done with me.

I learned a song when I was a little girl that always goes through my head.  It isn't an overly spiritual song of worship, but it keeps me in check.  I know that God has so much more to do with me, but I also know where he has already brought me from and for that I will be forever Thankful!

Oh, the song:

Post Office Food Drive

Posted in My Faith

We spent part of our day at church working the Post Office Food Drive.

Ever wonder what happens to all of the food the mail carriers pick up off your porches every year?  Well our church gets the food that is collected from our neighborhood.  It is a lot of food!  We bag it up and give it away to the folks who come to our annual Day of Hope celebration.  You can see photos from last year here

Kalene managed to get a few pictures.

It was a lot of work.  But we worked as a team and got it all done.

Then Sings My Soul...

Posted in My Faith

I have really enjoyed this meme the last couple of weeks.  It's nice to pick one special song each time for the Lord.
I have been listening to this song a lot this week.  It is one of my favorites.  It reminds me of when I was first saved and how wonderful and new everything was.  Sometimes I need to go back to that place.  This song does it for me every time!  I hope that you enjoy it too.
