Selling Books

Posted in Random Thoughts

I have had a a lot of books accumulate over the last few years since we began to homeschool.

I did not want to just get rid of them.  We take really good care of our books and I had always hoped to be able to get some of the cost back.  I continued to plan on selling my used books and curriculum online for the last few years.  I thought it would be a big process that would take a lot of time.

But the other day I decided to checked out how to sell used books on Amazon.  I am so glad that I did.  It literally took less tha five minutes to set everything up.  This was two days ago, and I have already sold 5 books, and made over twenty bucks.

I am very happy with the process so far.

My College Plans

Posted in Random Thoughts

I had planned to enroll for college classes a year ago.  Then I decided that maybe it just was not the right time for me to try adding that to my plate.  And although I put that idea on the back burner, I never intended for it to just stay there.  I knew that one day I would revisit the idea once again.  And today is that day.  I am hoping that with the help of socialworkguide.com I'll have a smooth road to becoming a social worker one day.

It may have something to do with registering my daughter for classes, or the fact that the state is giving away $5000 to unemployed people in Michigan to go back to school.

Whatever the reason I am considering enrolling once again this fall.  I am hoping to go to become a school social worker.  Although that plan may change as I move forward.  But I am really excited about the idea, and I'm not afraid to take the social work test.  The site www.socialworkguide.com has the tools you need to help you pass the licensing test.

Springtime Confession

Posted in Random Thoughts

I have a confession to make.

Although I have been waiting for the weather to break and spring to get here, I just realized last night that I am going to really miss a couple of things from our cold weather months.

First of all, I will miss the toast hot wood burning fires that fill the entire house.  We will still ave a few more days and nights of this, but I see it fading already.  Another thing I will really miss is the early nights.  I actually like when it gets dark at 5 o'clock and everyone is snug in the house.

Lastly, I'll miss my Acorn Slippers. These are the best slipper socks around. And as it continues to get warmer, it will get too hot for slipper socks. So, there you have it, my confession. I need to learn to be content already!

Lost & Found Goes High Tech

Posted in Random Thoughts

When my kids were little I began a habit that I think is very important if you would like to keep track of your things.  I would write their names on everything.

This was a useful thing to do since there were several occasions when some little kids in the neighborhood would claim that something belonged to them when it actually belonged to my child  It was very easy to find the spot where I would have wrote their names, or initials and point it out to the other party as evidence that it did indeed belong to us.

There is a new high tech way to do this same thing that promises to be even more efficient tool in tracking down our items even if they are lost somewhere. TrackItBack gives its customers labels to apply to your belongings which have a code that is unique to your family. You can then register them online.

This is high tech lost and found!

Could You Use More Cash?

Posted in Random Thoughts

I have a post up at my other site right now that you may find interesting.

Although it is not directly homeschool related it is still good information.

I have been able to make a little extra cash by spending a few minutes each day clicking on email or completing surveys. With all the financial troubles right now I thought maybe I should share this info with you as well.

You can find the post here.

Digital Frames

Posted in Random Thoughts

I have gone to several Christmas parties this year. In fact I still have a few parties left before I can officially call it all over.

I have a New Years Eve celebration at my church that I never miss. It is so much fun to worship in the New Year. It sure does beat how I used to usher in the New Year. Also we have one more Christmas party on New Years Day. And the day after that is my nephews birthday party.

I am so thankful that my kids are so close to their cousins. They are all very close friends, and I think that is something special that you can take into your adult lives. One of the Christmas parties I attended this past week was with a lot of relatives I hadn't seen in more than 15 years. I did not grow up close to my cousins. This is how I know it's so important to give this to your children if it is within your ability to do so. It was interesting getting to meet and know everyone after so many years. I did enjoy it.

On a completely different not. While I was there I saw the neatest thing. It was a Digital Photo Frame. I had never seen one of these before, so I had no idea how cool they are. You can upload several digital photos from your computer onto one of these frames. The photo changes every few minutes to a new photo. But, at Ceiva you can purchase a frame and photo plans. There are several options to fit your needs. I think these make perfect grandparent gifts.

Sea World It Is...

Posted in Random Thoughts

It has been so unbelievably cold here in Michigan the last couple of days.  Now to mention the tons of snow we had dropped on us a few days ago.  And now, as I am typing this out, it is snowing once again.  I just wish it would warm up a little bit.  My hands have been in a permanent state of frozen.  Which, might I add does not help at all when one is trying to type.  Typing and frozen hands DO NOT work well together.

I have been daydreaming of all the wonderfully warm places we could be right now.  If only we had thought about taking a vacation in the winter instead of in the summer.  What was I thinking.  It is already warm in the summer, whether I stay home or not.  But in the winter when it is freezing I would love to be some place warm and toasty like Florida.

I know that there are folks who use a vacation in place of Christmas gifts.  I have always wanted to go to Sea World.  Maybe I'll have to check for
discount sea world tickets  just to make it a more frugal trip.  Hey I can dream right?

If You Look For Me This Christmas

Posted in Random Thoughts

You won't need a special star -
I'm no longer just in Bethlehem,
I'm right there where you are.

You may not be aware of Me
amid the celebrations
You'll have to look beyond the stores
and all the decorations.

But if you take a moment
From your list of things to do
And listen to your heart, you'll find
I'm waiting there for you.

You're the one I want to be with,
you're the reason that I came,
And you'll find me in the stillness
As I'm whispering your name.

Love, Jesus
