Looking For Work?

Posted in Random Thoughts

I am ready for some change around here.

It seems like everyday I am hearing about more and more people losing their jobs.  This is very much affecting many people around where I live.

Even if you are fortunate enough to have a job it is still a good idea to look around periodically to see if there is anything else available.

I know that when Rich began to consider the idea of going back into the Painter's Union he started by calling around.  He did this to see if there were any companies that were even thinking about hiring at the time.

Thankfully he was able to find a job very quicky and did not need to seek any career advice.  But I have also been thinking about all of the people who are choosing to move out of Michigan in order to find a job.

How would you know if anyone was hiring in Minnesota if you do not live there?  You could go to www.startribune.com/jobs o see if there were any Minneapolis jobs available.

I should add that I am not moving.  But I would definately make sure that we had a job waiting for us if we did decide to move one day.

My Weekend

Posted in Random Thoughts

We had a pretty great weekend.

It was busy, but in a good way.  Rich had the whole weekend off which is a rarity these days.  He has been working 7 days a week for a while.

Friday we went out to dinner at Chili's which is our favorite restaraunt and then had a nice night at home.  The kids went to bed early and we watched the movie "Over Her Dead Body"  It was alright.

We had to get up very early on Saturday to take Kalene to an all day volleyball tournament.  We dropped her off and went for breakfast to waste the time until the tournament began.  They did really well.  Fourth place is great in my opinion and deserved Taco Bell, Kalene's favorite dinner these days.  She really is a teenager!

Sunday we went to church and afterwards, Kalene's soccer game.  They slaughtered the other team 8-0!  She went to a little barbeque party that one of the girls from the team was having and we went to American Pie for dinner.

So as you can see from this post I did no cooking all weekend. That was a treat for me, but eating out that much destroys the diet and the budget.  Good thing I've been doing so well keeping to the budget lately.  We're definately heading to the gym tonight!

Getting Back On The Treadmill

Posted in Random Thoughts

I have really been a slacker when it comes to exercising.  I was doing really great for a while there and then it seems that there just wasn't time to go to the gym.  I have to prioitize my life you know.  I had all kinds of excuses for why I was not exercising.  The truth? I have a treadmill here and don't really ned to go to the gym and use the treadmills there.   I just didn't feel like it.  But, I am motivated again to start some excerizing.  Thre really are no excuses.

Christmas in July

Posted in Random Thoughts

Do you think that it might be a little strange that I am already thinking about Christmas and it is still 5 months away?  I wonder how many other people are as strange as me.  Maybe it is because of the crazy high tempertures that we have been getting around here lately that makes me dream of colder days.

At any rate, one thing that I am determined to be on top of this year is sending out my Christmas Cards.  Yep, this year they will be made out and sent first thing.   I think that if I were to order them now, I could write them out and have them all ready to go as soon as Thanksgiving was over.

I think that if I could get this one thing prepared and ready to go, the rest of the season would go smoothly.  Of course it is still only July, so maybe I will wait a few more months.

It is funny, when it's cold out I dream of hot summer ays.  Now that they are here in full force, I' thinking Christmas.  Okay I guess I am a bit weird.

I Believe I Can Fly

Posted in Random Thoughts

Okay, here is a little known fact about myself.  I used to think that I would grow up to be a pilot.  I think it must have become a dream of mine right around the time I saw the movie Top Gun.  I was going to learn to fly me one of those super cool planes.  I especially wanted to learn to fly the smaller planes like Baloo in my favorite cartoon Tail Spin.

Needless to say that has never happened.  But I still would love to fly on one of those planes.  Do you know that you can charter yourself a ride on a private jet.  How cool would that be?  Now this kind of VIP treatment is not only available for the rich and famous.  It can be for anyone.  With Wing Aviation Charter Services anyone can fly like a VIP guest.

There is one catch though.

They only have charter flights in some states.  You can charter flights Oklahoma.  You can also charter flights in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas.  That means I will just have to wait until something like this comes to Michigan.  Or until I move to Texas! (I am not really moving to Texas, just another dream of mine.)

Until then I will continue to dream of the day I can fly in my very own personal private aircraft.

The Rundown

Posted in Random Thoughts

I finally bought myself a laptop last night!  I am so super excited ! I wrote all about it here.  I really got a great deal with a few freebies of course :-)  I used some coupon codes to get the freebies which I've listed there also.

Today I have to go back to the dentist because last week they found that I have 2 cavities in my back molars.  What?  I am so serious about taking care of my teeth that I couldn't believe it.  My kids of course think this is funny.  Mom brushes her teeth almost obssesively and still gets cavities.  I am not happy about this situation or the fact that it is going to cost us almost $150 to do them.  I guess this will teach me to not be quite so hard on my kids.

I have spent the last couple of days trying to purge some of the stuff that has taken over our house.  It is amazing how it just seems to multiply and grow when noone is looking.  I am getting excited about the upcoming schoolyear.  This just feels like a season of new beginnings to me right now and I look forward to that.

Mean Little Buggers

Posted in Random Thoughts

I live in Michigan where there are no known infestations of fire ants.  These painful stinging insects inhabit many of the United States including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.  They have also recently been found in Missour, New Mexico and Nevada.

I never knew about these ants before.  But I am glad to know about them now.  Seeing as how the insects can be relentless there is a chance that they will make their way into the Great Lakes State eventually.  So it is good to be informed.

Especially if you live in one of the states mentioned.  Or even if you are planning on vacationing in one of those areas.  These ants bite in order to grab a hold of its victim before stinging with its tail end over and over again.  Doen't sound all that pleasant now does it?  I think if I ever go to one of the states mentioned I'll bring some fire ant insecticide.

Have you ever had any dealings with these mean little buggers?
