This Is Just A Season

Posted in Random Thoughts

I don't know why it is, but I am just now getting used to the idea that it is summer.  For whatever reason this year it hasn't "felt like" summer until about a week ago.

And just as I am getting used to the idea of it being a relaxing time of year I am rudely reminded that this too will not last.

I get up pretty early most days.  I like to get up with Rich in the morning to help him get out the door and say goodbye.  Then I have a couple of hours to myself to work on the computer doing whatever I feel like doing before my kids get up for the day.

I don't exactly like getting up at 5 in the morning, but I do love saying goodby to Rich and my treasured time alone.

Okay, so back to the reminder that I was talking about earlier.  Today it was noticeably darker out than it has been lately.  I mean it appeared that the sun was just coming up.  This means that fall is trying to take its place on the stage.

I love fall, but do you have any idea how much harder it is to stay up in the morning when it is still dark outside?  It just seems unnatural to be awake when it isn't even daylight yet.  I know I'm jumping a little ahead of myself here.  I have a nice chunk of summer left and I plan to enjoy every single bit of it.

New Rich

Posted in Random Thoughts

I have been thinking about how it might be damaging to a person who suddenly finds themself with a huge bank account.  I'm thinking of the people who go on different reality TV shows and afterwards find themselve ridiculously wealthy.  Or stuggling artists who finally get that big break.  I guess the correct term would be Nouveau Riche which literally means "new rich" in French.

If you have never had much money and then suddenly you have a ton.  It has to be a hard transition I would think.  I think it is obvious that there are numerous celebrities who find that one day they can pretty much buy anything.  But I also think that those same celebrities have to be constantly questioning themselves as to who their real friends are.  It seems like it would be a very lonely place to be.

Some of the people that come to mind are Oprah Winfrey, Brittany Spears, and Cinderella :-)  Anyways not sure why I wanted to share this, but there you have it.

I May Be Getting A New Pad

Posted in Random Thoughts

We received a notice from the Mayor's office this week.  Basically over the next 2 weeks they are going to be going through our neighborhood and ticketing anyone who they deem in providing blight to the neighborhood.

This is actually a great thing.  With all of the foreclosures in this area we have a ton of vacant houses that are in desperate need of a good lawn mowing.  They will be ticketing those who have overgrown grass and weeds, excess garbage, junk cars, and rodent problems.  This is all wonderful news to me.

The only thing we are even slightly concerned about was one itty bitty line in the notice that said all recreation vehicles must be on a Portland Cement pad in the back of your yard and five feet from any property line. We have a very small fishing boat that we keep in the driveway.  If we have to move it into the yard in will need to go smack dap in the middle of the yard to fall within the parameters that they've set.

I am really hoping that our boat doesn't fall into the recreational vehicles categoriy.  But I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Stand Out In A Crowd

Posted in Random Thoughts

Unless you have been living under a rock in some remote jungle in the world for the last ten or twenty years you know how much the IT world has grown. And it continues to grow at such a rapid pace today that it is no wonder many people are choosing to take that path for their career in life. It seems to be one of the only jobs left with any real job security.

As much as the technology world has changed even in my lifetime, it is not through just yet. It is constantly changing and evolving. Which is why it is so important to continue your education in this field if you want to be able to stick it out for the long haul. Also with all of the competition in todays job market noone can afford to sit by while someone else with more skills takes their job from them.

It is very important to take advantage of any and all continuing education classes available. This keeps you on top of your game. If you are sharp in you area then you can rest assured that noone can take your spot.

Another way to add to your resume is to make sure that you have your Cisco certification. This lets employers know that you are different than the thousands of other IT guys out there today.

So for anyone who is really serious about advancing in this field they need to make sure they have the proper certifications to help them stand out in the crowd.

Always Looking For The Deals

Posted in Random Thoughts

You must know by now that I am not one to pass up a good deal.  I also am not one to buy something unless I already know that I am getting the best deal out there.  Most of the time if I am getting ready to buy something, I will spend a ton of time checking out a ton of different sites to make sure that I am getting the item for the least amount of money as possible.  I just can't stand to pay more for something just because I did not bother to look and see if there was a better deal out there.  My newest product that I am researching before I decide to buy are GPS Recievers like the TomTom Rider.  Being that I know nothing about these things at all, I probably won't be buying them without looking at all of my options.  I do think that one of these would be helpful to us for when we are going to different areas that we are unfamiliar with.  Until we do get one we'll just have to stick with good old fashioned maps.

Daydreaming

Posted in Random Thoughts

I spent the day in my yard finally getting it ready for summer.  I realized today that it is already halfway through June!  I started daydreaming again.  This time I was dreaming of some wonderful waterfront community like they have in some places like southwestern Virginia.  Of course this is not about to happen any time soon, if at all.  But hey, I can still dream.  I could almost hear the water as it came on shore, then I realized that the hose that I was holding was spraying all over the place.  Until the day I can actually move to a place like that I will just have to learn to be happy with a blow up pool and a hammock.  Wait, I don't have a hammock either.  Okay a blanket on the ground.  Back to reality.

Clean Air

Posted in Random Thoughts

Now that it is summer I am finding that my house is sealed up again like a fortress as it was during the winter.  I began to wonder how this affects our health.  I know that the famous childhood educator Charlotte Mason was a huge advocate for kids getting as much fresh air as possible.  But if everything is shut up tight and the air we are breathing is recycled, how healthy can it be?  I do wonder if an air cleaner would be a good idea.  We have a water filter, so why wouldn't we think about getting the best air cleaner too?  It really does make sense to me.  So I guess what I am wondering is if any of you use an air cleaner?

Me, an author?

Posted in Random Thoughts

I have always had a dream that I would write a book.  It has not happened yet.  But I do still think about it from time to time. Publishing a book seemed like it would be very hard.  I was not even sure where I should start.  Having someone there to help me with all of the details along the way would be really great.  I do not know when I will really write a book, but I do know that the idea is not completely absurd.

Authorhouse is a great site that is there to help the average person acheive their dream of getting their book published.  They are there to guide you through the whole process all the way down to the littlest details.
