That was my week.  I didn't do any grocery shopping this week since I have been stocking up the last couple of weeks.  So that saved me some money this week.

I did all of these trips in about an hours worth of my time.  For me it is completely worth it.  I will not be paying for any Easter candy this year.  Yes I did get some more toothpaste, but that is because I got rid of a bunch this week.  Before my sister in law left to go back to college I had her stop by.  I gave her toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner, makeup, medicine, energy drinks, deodorant, razors, face wash, and more.  She was overwhelmed by it all.  It felt so awesome to be able to do this for her because I know that she is on a very tight budget.  And my cupboard was looking a little empty so I was able to get more.

I didn't do so great with my groceries this week though.  A lot of things contributed to my poor week.  I never planned out my weekly menu. When I looked at Kroger and Meijers ad I became discouraged.  So I didn't even want to go grocery shopping if it wasn't going to be a money saving fun time.   Then on Wednesday I realized we didn't have any food.  So I ran to Aldis.  With no plan and no coupons and no list.

DSCF2947

1 package of shredded cheddar
a bag of onions
baking mix (Bisquick)
1 can cream corn
1 jar of salsa
1 bottle of syrup

After looking at Meijers ad a little more closely I saw that there might be a few good deals hiding there.

DSCF2949

4 bags of stemfresh frozen veggies
1 bag of oranges
2 bags of Goodlife Recipe dog food
1 Wishbone salad spritzer
2 cartons of ice cream
1 box of Honey Bunches of Oats cereal (my favorite)

TOTAL $ 14.61
TotalSavings $ 29.24

Let me just say that I will definately be planning a menu this week.  Hopefully the ads will look better as well.  Thankfully I have plenty of meat in the freezer from stocking up over the last couple of weeks.  I also was able to get plenty of snackfoods for free from CVS this week.  I love the fact that while I am spending so much less than I used to, my freezer and cupboards are getting fuller than they used to.

I also ordered 3 more of these wonderful pans from Kohls this week.  I ordered one about a month ago and I love it.  You can use it on the stovetop or in the oven!

We were blessed with a new computer for Kalene.  It is working wonderfully.  The girl who gave it to us just wanted to upgrade to a new computer.  So we are waiting for our old computers new hard drive to arrive so that we can have another working computer for Richie to use too.  These aren't connected to the internet since they are going in the bedrooms.  But there is so much they can do with them anyways.

I made one last trip to CVS and Meijer today after I wrote out this post.

CVS ~

DSCF2868

And I signed up for a promotion that I heard about here.  I wasn't sure if it would work, but Rich said I could try it so I did.  I got the email notice this week that they had credited my account for $50.  I sign Rich, me, and both of my kids.  So I made $200 to play with stocks.  I'm not sure if this promotion is still available, but you can follow the super easy directions here and try it if you'd like.  What did I do with the money?  I opened a savings account with high interest here.   I figure I'll transfer any money I earn from rebates or surveys to this account.  It will be interesting to see at the end of the year how much money I'll be able to add to it.  And I am keeping the stocks I bought.  It is fun to watch them.  Who knows maybe I'll make some money off of them.  Right now I've made about $2.50 between all 4 of the accounts.

This is what I call a Super Saving Week!

Super Saving Saturday

Posted in Super Savings Saturday

It's that time again.  This is the post where I share all my money saving great deals.  My week started with a trip to good ol' CVS.  I only picked up a few things from there this week.

DSCF2780

2 Colgate Total  (used a $1 & $1.50 manufacturers coupon)
1 package Always  (Used a free manufacturers coupon)
1 bottle Renu solution  (used a $2.00 CVS coupon & $2.50 manufacturers coupon)
1 Fushion razor (used a $4.00 manufacturers coupon)
4 bags Dove chocolates (used 4 CVS $1.50 coupons and 2 buy one get one free manufacturers coupons)
1 Benefiber
6 Reese Big Cup
(these became a last minute filler due to my inaccurate math and the fact that there were about 10 people in line behind me.  But it did turn out to be a great choice.  Besides the fact that my son and husband both think I am pretty great for getting them.  The CVS register spit out a coupon for another free canddybar due to the fact that I have gotten so many as fillers.)

 I used a $20 ECB and earned back $10 back in ECB's

My next trip was Aldi's

DSCF2785

 2 loaves of bread
1 package of hamburger buns
a bunch of drink mix
a large container of plain yogurt
coffee creamer
a gallon of milk
2 cans of frozen juice
2 Tomatoes
A package of strawberry fig bars
Chocolate Chips
A can of tomatoe paste
A can of mushrooms
real bacon bits
A package of pepperonis

My total at Aldi's was $20.70

Here is my Meijer Trip:

DSCF2788

1 bag of FlatEarth Chips (free with coupon)
8lb bag of oranges ($3.49)
3 lb bag of apples ($1.49)
5 Yellow bell peppers ($1.27)
5lb bag of potatoes ($1.14)
Bag of Dole Classic Romaine (Free with coupon)
Bag of shredded cheddar cheese ($2.50)
5 1lb packages of butter ($5.00)
2 boxes of pizza rolls ($ .40 after coupons)
2 packs of chicken thighs ($1.56 after coupons)
5 1lb packages of hamburger ($8.65)
1 package of beef stew meat ($3.45)
2 packages of vanilla pudding ($ .58 from Aldis)
package of Provolone cheese slices ($1.99 from Aldis)
Total $ 31.52

I spent a little more that planned, but there were a lot of clearance deals that I couldn't pass up such as all the meat, butter, and peppers.

I decided to try my hand at Walgreens this month as well.

DSCF2789

1 Garnier Fructis Conditioner (I love this stuff)
2 Oust Sprays
2 Glade 2 in 1 candles
1 Fushion razor
1 box of sipahh straws
1 can of Pringles
2 boxes of Yogos

I did this in 2 shopping trips.  The first trip I bought a Fushion Razor and 2 Glade 2 in 1 candles for a total of $15.98.  I then used a $4.00 manufacturers coupon for the razor and a $ 2 manufacturers coupon for the candles.  The I got back a coupon for $6.00 off of my next order for buying the razor.  The next trip I bought Pringles, 2 Oust sprays, Sipahh straws, Fructis conditioner, and 2 boxes of Yogos.  I used $13.50 in manufacturers coupons, $ .80 in Walgreens coupons and spent $2.96.  But my deal gets a lot better because I earned $6.29 in rebates through Walgreens which I can have put on a Walgreens giftcard to use for future purchases.  Also by choosing the giftcard I will be credited with an additional 10%.  Cool Huh?

I stopped in at CVS to pick up some lotion and Apple Juice for 49 cents.

I also took advantage of a free family pack of photos that Walgreens was offering for Valentines Day.  I got one 8x10, 2 - 5x7's, 4 - 3x5's for FREE!!!

This week I found a rebate for Sambucol for $12.99 and another rebate from Acuvue for $30.  I also got a check from Pinecone Research.  I love to see what little treat I will find in the mail each day.  It is so fun.

If you want to see how others saved money this week you can check it out at Money Saving Mom

Super Saving Saturday

Posted in Super Savings Saturday

I have really enjoyed doing these Super Saving Saturday posts.  I look forward to them all week.  It also holds me a bit accountable for how I am spending money.  Crystal budgets to spend $35 on groceries each week.  This sounds amazing to me.  I am slowing trying to change the way I think about grocery shopping.  With better planning I have been able to get my totals down.  This week I spent around $50 which is good for me.  I was over $60 last week.  I am going to see if I can just keep getting it lower.  The really neat thing is that when I look in the fridge and cupboards I see so much food.  So even though I am spending way less, we seem to have an abundance of food.

Here are the pictures:

DSCF2726

This first picture is of our trip to Kroger.  The total for this trip was $17.19.

2 packs of Dannon Smoothies 4pks
1 package of Chocolate Chunk cookie mix

I did my CVS shoppping in a few trips because I was searching for Boost Smoothies which are nonexistent.  I did one trip on Sunday night during the Superbowl.

(That trip was quite an adventure.  But I won't get into that now.  I am saving it for its own blog entry.  Stay tuned...you won't want to miss it)

Then on Monday I went to the rest of the stores I could find around me as I was running errands anyways.  I am glad I did because I was able to get everything in the picture for FREE.  Well it cost a total of $1.04.  But I put that on the giftcard I got from Mypoints.  So yes it was all free.  I have $27 in ECB's for this weeks fun.

I did get pizza on Monday night for $7.  So if I add that into my weekly spending that brings us to a grand total of $53.85!!!!!!  This is oh so much fun for me if you couldn't already tell.

Did you find any great deals this week?

Super Saving Saturday

Posted in Super Savings Saturday

Here's my loot

First I went to Meijer to get some free makeup, super cheap Dole lettuce, and a few junk food snacks for my family to enjoy for Super Bowl Sunday.  My total was $28.23  And my savings were $63.00

I would love to get down to $35 weekly shopping bill like Crystal does, but I think I'll have ease into that a little at a time.  She suggests doing it that way on a Podcast she did here.  Part 2 can be heard here.

I did also go to Aldi's to get a few more things.  So altogether I spent about $60 on groceries this week which really isn't bad compared to the @ $115 that I'm used to spending.  Menu planning has definately helped me not spend too much.  Coupons have allowed me to buy some things (like snacks and junk) that I normally wouldn't have extra money to buy. Thanks to CVS I have been able to eliminate soaps, paper products, medicine, ect. completely from my weekly bill, so that has helped tremendously.

CVS was pretty great this week.  Although I thought I would have to slow down a bit.  It looked like I was running out of room, but after cleaning my cupboards and organizing my stock, I see that I can still get a few things.

My total for CVS was $11.61 which is about $10.50 more than I planned on spending, but I bought a few things that were not on my list.  My total savings was $ 288.66.  That was done in 3 trips.  There were some really awesome deals this week and I had a lot of great coupons.  I also was able to hit the clearance shelf and use my coupons there.  And I used a ton of ECB's and the rest of my Christmas giftcard.  But I have earned $33 in ECB's for this week.  Also I got a $10 CVS giftcard from MyPoints the other day as well.

I can't wait to see what this week will hold for me.
