Tot School

May. 11, 2008 • 8:35 PM

Posted in Tot School

Here is what we did in our Tot School this week:

Tot School started out with a full day outside. The whole family worked outside all day (for the most part) after some main school subjects were completed. It was a great day! We even ate outside by a fire!

Before heading outside, "Precious" played with the counting rack (and a little peek-a-boo).

Here are my favorite shots from our day outdoors!

Trampoline Fun:

The balls are soft and from a ballpit. It makes jumping more fun. We also collected balls of a certain color that I called out. "Precious" just gathered two like colors and I told her the color they were! She currently likes yellow!

We even had a basic lesson about static electricity- can you see why?

They also visited the swings....

...plus a ride with big sister!

Then a quick wave to our shadow! (look how many lessons can be taught easily outside: colors, static, shadows, etc.)

Don't forget to stop and smell the flowers!!!

(By-the-way: She is smelling "bleeding hearts"- one of my favorite flowers. I love how they really are the shape of a pink heart with a drop coming out. Plus she has hearts on her shirt! She pulled the whole bunch off the plant in her grasp- but it will grow back thankfully)

"Peanut" did some things for his flower lapbook. Here he colored the flowers with colored pencils then finger painted the border.

The next day we did something new: Pom Pom Alphabet pages. The kids thought it was fun however they are just starting to learn the letter shapes. "Precious" watched "Peanut" and then joined in the fun!

It didn't take long and the schoolroom looked like this:

Then we also had homeschool softball. My hubby was along the one day so I took my 2 little ones and a friend's daughter for a walk around the park. I pushed "Precious" in a stroller and my son and his friend (from our church) walked along with me. It was so nice. The kids were so sweet and were looking at everything!

We even found some flowers from a dogwood tree and I was able to show them how it represented Jesus' death on the cross for us! (another great flower idea for our lapbook, too! I wish I had some kind of printable. Maybe I will do a search!)

One of our favorite books this week (in honor of being Mother's Day) was...

What Moms can't do! by Douglas Wood.

It was cute and made us giggle!

...And here is how books get read in our house sometimes.

"Precious" is such a copy-cat. She has to hold a book too. My "Princess" is reading the top book to her!

Again..."peek-a-boo,Mom!"

Have a great week with your family!

Mother's Day Inspriation! ...and the winner

May. 9, 2008 • 11:11 AM

It's time to pick a winner to my first bloggy giveaway

but before I do, I want to show a Mother's Day post with you!

I really enjoyed reading all the comments for this giveaway and I wanted to share them with you all for Mother’s Day!

Here are some of the great things that were said about being a mother

my children taught me to treasure every minute no matter how short, cling to God’s comfort …that snakes, spiders, and dirt  are part of God’s creation, too!

…being a mom rocks!

I love watching my children grow, helping them learn, getting little mementos on a daily basis, hearing them pray, watching them make right decisions when they do, seeing their individuality come out, crazy clothing choices, & lots of hugs

being a mother has taught me so much about how God loves us!

it’s so sweet to watch my children interact with people in ways that leave them feeling good inside

the Lord has taught ME so much more than I could ever teach my children just by letting me be their mother!

I am so blessed to have my children home with me everyday. We learn together, play together, and pray together.

I love how my children love life and how they are eager to share that life and love for life and Jesus with each other

they show me my weakness and sin. They show me that I need Jesus to make it through my day and sometimes moment by moment!

children are amazing gifts from God... with their own special talents

it’s an awesome gift to be a mother!

especially love seeing their relationship with the Lord grow

it is a privilege to be able to raise my children for the Lord. I know there are many that long to be mothers and are not, so I am very thankful

so thankful that God has given me a whole flock of children…He has used each one to mold me to be more like our Heavenly Father …Chances are, I will have more character building in the future but I count it all joy

my children pick me dandelions, hug me when I cry, are always full of hugs and kisses for me, always tell me that they love me. I know God has entrusted these sweet souls to me and that is such a wonderful blessing in itself

so happy to be a mom…it’s all I ever wanted to be!

being a mom is hard work for sure but knowing that I am raising the future generation to love God and do HIS work here on earth is so worth it.

there is no greater blessing than being a mom. …through my children I reflect on God’s love for us as His children …He uses them daily to open my eyes to HIS longsuffering and forgiveness.

I have learned patience, empathy, and so much more since I have been blessed with my children

my husband tell me all the time “You’re livin’ your dream.” And he’s right I am!

children are both treasures and tools! Their joy, laughter and love make me rich beyond measure.

I am thankful for snuggle time- it the most precious time and it makes me thankful for the opportunity to have these sweet blessing in my home

so blessed to have teenagers doing what is right and following the Lord

I am proud of my kid’s creativity, imagination and incredible brains, but the biggest blessing I get from being a mom is to see my kids grow in love.

My thoughts…”Moms are busy people and it can be easy to start relying on self and not FULLY rely on Him. I have grown so much by my kids but never more than when I just let the Lord lead me and help me. I always try to remind myself to make sure the things that count for eternity, count the most in our lives and schedules!!!

Moms… God has given us an awesome responsibility and a precious privilege in being a mother. Motherhood is a high calling and very important to the Lord. We have an in-house mission field! The joys in motherhood are wonderful and precious treasures that can be easily missed if we don't seize the opportunity to grab them each and every day!

Leave a legacy: Choose to love, Choose to show God’s love!”

Enjoy this song and video!

Earthly prizes can NOT compare to our reward in Heaven if we seek and ask the Lord into our lives!

All you mothers...good and faithful servants... may I encourage you to continue to glorify His name, seek Him diligently and tell and show others HIS love.

without further ado...

My "Princess" helped me pick the winner (I used numbers to match my list. My hope was to save time writing out each name and I can use the numbers again for another giveaway! If you posted the contest on your blog I entered your number twice!)

the winner is…

Blessedwith2angels whose blog name is

Mom’s Mutterings and her newer blog is

Pam's private reflections

Stop by her blog and congratulate her!

Happy Mother’s Day

to you all!

Here is a really GREAT Mother's Day Card Craft you can simply print out and give to your kids. Let them read the directions and see what they come up with and create! It's sure to be a special keepsake and so beautiful!

Keys for Kids & Library Elf

May. 6, 2008 • 7:52 PM

Posted in Reviews

My blog friend, Angela over at byourlove1 is the new host of Tuesday Reveiw. (Pray for Angela- she broke her ankle)

I enjoying writing reviews and also reading them. I always like finding out about good family products. If I invest in something, it's good to know more about the product from a consumer and not from advertisers- or those who promote it for their gain!

I want to tell you about a wonderul FREE devotional called Keys For Kids that comes in the mail. CBH Ministries, formerly Children's Bible Hour, is a media ministry targeting kids ages eight to fourteen with Bible-based materials. They produce radio programs, print materials, and web-based media to teach kids the message of Jesus Christ.
Their prayer is that children (and adults) who read their devotionals will grow closer to the Savior, Jesus Christ, as the stories and bible verses challenge their walk with Him.

You can also read them online but we really like our little books that come in the mail! We often keep them in the car if we are already doing another devotional (at home). The stories are interesting and of course have a Christian moral lesson behind them! Every so many pages there is also an activity like a crossword or coloring picture!

Click Here to sign up to get Keys for Kids and they will show up in your mailbox every other month--for FREE!

Your kids can also play online games at their site!

One other thing I want to tell you all about is Libraryelf.com. You can sign up for this free service (If they service your library) and they will track your library books, loans, etc. and e-mail you a reminder when books are due, etc. There are many libraries across the U.S. Click here to see if your library is on their list!

These two links are also being added to a meme called Weblink Wednesday hoted by SoCalVal! Check out her other great weblinks!

Tot School; Softball, dot stamper art, baby einstein

May. 5, 2008 • 7:16 AM

Posted in Tot School

Here is what we did in Tot School this past week!

My hubby had a lot more time off work this week!  However, that made our schedule different. We had one day of shopping... Ugh! but we got a lot of things we needed so it was successful! Plus we spent a lot of time organizing our garage/shed. Things just got stuck there over the past year since we moved in and it needed to get organized. This meant a lot of time out side for the kids but I was too busy and didn't get many photos!

Here is what I did get in photos!

We started SOFTBALL this month. It is twice a month but only this month. The older kids play while the moms and younger siblings socialize! This first time my younger ones were "into" the softball and wanted to try too. "Peanut" (my son) actually batted 3 different times with my hubby's help! This softball is with our local homeschool association and it is so great as it is no-pressure. Everyone gets a chance to hit and the adults try to teach them as they go!

We also started working a little on my son's Flower lapbook.

We did some FUN dot painting using BINGO stampers. You can also buy specific paint dabbers for activities like this. If you don't have the stampers, etc. you could let your child add stickers in the circles!

The above flower picture we then cut around, leaving a slight white border. We will use this as part of his flower lapbook!

Here is a great link for many of these printable Fill in the dot pictures. They have pictures for Spring, Summer, Winter and Fall plus Holiday themes and animals!

Here is another great link for pages where the pictures are made with dots and the child can just trace around it like drawing. Tracer pages We did some of these as well!

Then we enjoyed a wonderful book this week called: baby einstein The ABCs of Art.really like this book! What a wonderful way to introduce art world to our young ones!

There is a famous piece of art for each letter in the alphabet. A is an angel. There are just a few lines of script starting with A is for... Angel. Then they ask questions like "What is the angel holding." Each piece of artwork has two questions to get your child to really look at the picture! I highly recommend this great book!

Check out what the other participants did in their TOT Schools over at Carisa's TOT SCHOOL meme! Join in if you have preschoolers! We'd love to see the activities you do!

Preschool Lapbook: Flowers & Plants

May. 3, 2008 • 10:20 AM

Posted in Lapbooks

May's theme for our preschool lapbook through Little laplinks is... FLOWERS!

At first I didn't think my son would do this one. My girls thought it was "girly". I guess since their bedrooms are full of flower prints, etc. I ask my son and told him that God made all the flowers so He must really love flowers and also mommy likes them a lot, too. He told me he wanted to make one so I started searching. I hope we do an animal one next though! He'd love the ocean creatures one! If you want to try lapbooks or want an easy way to pull one together with your preschooler(s), check out Little Laplinks (at Lapbook Lessons)

Here are the links for things we plan to print and use in our lapbook:

Coloring picture: Bird on a fence with a large sunflower

Flower Sequence Cards

Colorful Flowers Book: Color a flower for each color!

Flower Pictures/Bookmarks to print (realistic photos)

We did paint dabber/Bingo stamper art in our TOT SCHOOL this past week. They have some flowers patterns! We did one and cut around it to hopefully include in his lapbook as well! Here is the link so you can pick out a flower page to print and make! You can also use circle stickers if you don't have the dabbers!

Great set of flower sorting cards!

Alphabetical order Cards: Flower names! (a little too above my son's level but will be great for next year as we plan to use and review these lapbooks for preschool and kindergarten!)

Fabulous Flower flashcards!

About my flower: Journal Page!

Flower Cards: Match-Up Colors!, and Match-Up Shapes!

Flower Colors flip book! cut and paste then assemble into booklet!

Flower-Tulip Alphabet Tracer Cards

Flowerpot Days of the Week!

Counting Daisies: Cards and Daisy Counters! Great to laminate and put in an envelope for a counting activity!

Here are some links to things we are using from other Laplink participants!

Valerie posted this number/flower petal match-up game  (preschoolprintables.com)

Also her link to this neat layered flap book of flowers!

Label the parts of a flower: We plan to make this into a match-up activity the child can do each time he uses the lapbook!

Homeschool Share has a lapbook unit on plants!! They have many great printables for our lapbook!

My son is a little too young for this right now but I might save it for him and put it in a pocket for next schoolyear! It is a cute SEED ADDITION BOOKLET (flapbook style)

Craft projects to do that can be added to your lapbook!

1. Take a walk outside and collect some flowers with your child. Bring them inside and lay between two pieces of waxed paper and place inside (the back of) a heavy book. This will press the flowers. (Or use a flower press if you have one!) Once pressed, preserve by laminating them with either a laminating machine or between clear contact paper. Add these in some way to your child's lapbook. It would be neat to use these to match up with a drawing of that flower or the name of it/ info. cards for a great true-to-life matching game. When your child plays it, they won't only be learning names of the flowers but I'm sure remembering the fun tiime he/she had picking those flowers with mom!

2. Flower creation made up of your Family Hands! See this done Here!

Here is the link to the stem and leaf patterns for this craft!

Here are some other things we are using:

What Plants Need and the Parts of a Plant activities from the book: File Folder Games (Science) published by Carson-Dellosa. (sorry! I couldn't find it on Amazon-books)

We always try to find things we have "stashed" in our homeschool things. We found a Scholastic hand-out called "Schoalstic News" that you cut and make into a book called "Amazing Plants". (I have a good friend that used to be an elementary-aged public school teacher and she would give our co-op all her extra "Scholastic News" I saved them knowing they'd be just right for unit studies or lapbooks!

Also- check out your local dollar store for things to go with your themes! We got some neat flower cut-outs!

And... Here are two cute songs/poem you can do with your preschooler(s). You could type them into a document and print them to keep in the lapbook as well!

 Poem:

Little Brown Seeds
Little brown seeds so small and round,
Are sleeping quietly underground.
Down comes the raindrops,
Sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle.
Out comes the rainbow,
Twinkle, twinkle, twinkle.
Little brown seeds way down below,
Up through the earth they grow, grow, grow.
Little green leaves come out one by one.
They hold up their heads and look at the sun.
(Author unknown)

Song:

Little Seed
("I'm A Little Teapot" tune)
I'm a little seed
In the dark, dark ground.
Out comes the warm sun,
Yellow and round.
Down comes the rain,
Wet and slow.
Up comes the little seed,
Grow, grow, grow!
(Author unknown)

 Happy Lapbooking!

Grains of Sand

Apr. 30, 2008 • 4:32 PM

My family and I went away last weekend, kind of "extra baggage" for my hubby's business trip. He wanted us there of course, but the main purpose of the trip was for his work.

Anyway... we stopped by a lake with a beach. It was chilly but we pulled off and just had a little fun in the sand!

There is just something so amazing about sand. Maybe it is how going barefoot through it makes you feel so free! Maybe it's how one grain is just so teeny tiny of a piece yet it is part of that whole beach! It can even be molded and formed when water is added.

Grains of Sand

How many grains of sand on this beach?

How many blades of grass in the meadow?

How many drops of dew on the tree?

If you could count all these, You could count the number of God's blessings.

-Author Unknown

If we stopped to think of all the blessings God puts into our life each and everyday- things we never even think about - we'd never be able to stop because the blessings are truly so abundant. Are we thankful? It's like that sand. There are just so many individual things/pieces, it would be impossible to count, as this verse says: Psalms 139:17-18 "How precious are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand."

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has BLESSED us with every spiritual blessing in Christ."- Ephesians 1:3

The Lord cares about every little thing! I am reminded of this regularly. Did you see this post- about Him sending my son a rainbow? (when we were studying rainbows.) People like to call it coincidence but it is not! It is the Lord giving us blessings- it is Him blessing us with even the littlest things on our minds. Have you ever thought to yourself how you'd like a certain book or product after reading a review and then.... you find it at a yard sale or thrift store or someone gives it to you? Do you stop to thank the Lord for this gift? Well... He did somehting like this again today. I had this post on my mind after I uploaded our photos a few days ago. Then my devotional this morning had a cute story involving sand. Not a coincidence!

The devotional book I recently started is God's Little Devotional Book for Moms (published by Honor Books) It is a wonderful devotional book and I recommend it!

Anyway my devotional today was a story about a family with 4 kids that just took a family vacation to the mountains. They hiked the mountains each day and had campfires, smores and storytelling. The tent was less than desirable and they didn't sleep too well but wonderful family memories were made! Once back home, the children were excitedly telling the grandparents about all the fun they had. These grandparents took one look at the parents (who still had to unpack and get back into the swing of schedules and routines plus catch up on laundry and sleep) and they said "You two need a vacation!" So the grandparents kept the children the following weekend and insisted the parents go away to relax. They went to the beach and just relaxed on the beach together. On the last day the wife mentioned to her husband how it had been 3 whole days without any children or related worries and that was the first time since their first child was born. Her husband said "Yes and I kind of miss them. Will you throw some sand in my face?"

Preschool Lapbook: Rainbow Colors

Apr. 29, 2008 • 7:52 PM

Posted in Lapbooks

Here is the video of our completed Rainbows Labook (preschool level). The links are below if you wish to make your own and would like to use some of the same free resorces!

Here are the items we put into the back pocket of our lapbook:

This is a Noah game where the child matches up the animal pieces to the matching color and shape on the board. This was reproducible and in the book: File Folder Games for the Christian Classroom (see below for more info.)

This is something we've had and never really used so I included it here so we'll use it. On one side of the cards is the Noah's Ark story and then each card becomes a piece to a big puzzle when flipped to the back!

The next thing we included were transparent color paddles. These are to learn color mixing. When one is placed on another a new color is made! These can be bought at Orientaltrading.com. They come with three sets of all the rainbow colors.

Here my lil'cowboy and girl are just lining them up!

Whenever possible I hope to give my child a treat/prize (within the theme if possible) when we complete a lapbook! This time it was a rainbow lollipop.

He loved it! Later in the evening he comes inside and gives me a flower from the garden and tells me that it is is my prize! It was so incredibly sweet!

Here's where you can see the video of how to make a pocket for your lapbooks!

The Lapbook theme for April at Little Lapbooks is...

Rainbows!

We are excited to get started on our preschool lapbook because we have been working on identifying colors. Plus the story of Noah and the Rainbow's promise- What a great lapbook this will be!

Here are the links I found that we plan to use:

Letter R tracing with rainbow!

This page is similar but so cute. R is for Rainbow

Coloring picture: Rainbow over a town. Cute cover page!

Color Mixing Rainbow Activity Sheet: This page is so great. It has Red + Yellow = Orange written out with rainbow shapes for your student to color in. It then also has other color mixing equations to color! I am so glad we found this page!

Rainbow Circle- Fold! Great to write anything you'd like inside!

Interactive Paper Plate Ark: Add the animals! Here is a great printable craft. The print-out just gets cut out and glued to a paper plate (pocket). The cut-out animals get glued to popsicle sticks and get inserted into the Noah's Ark pocket! Very Cute & interactive for a toddler!

Here is a cute craft (Picture below) that we plan to do and glue right into our lapbook since it will be flat. I think I will use strips of cut paper instead of crepe or tissue paper for the color strips of the rainbow. Use your child's name in place of the name Giovanna. I plan to make the cloud on folded paper so when I will cut it out , I'll have a booklet that will open to my child's name written vertically with things written in about him starting with the given letter!

A Rainbow Under the Sea: Ocean Animals Book. This is a little advanced for preschoolers but I will help my son a little with it. It is neat to see all the different colors from the rainbow under the sea! God created rainbows everywhere! (I think you must be a member of Enchanted Learning to print this one!- Sorry!)

A great homeschooling mom (and missionary) at her blog 1+1+1=1  has added links as another participant in Little Laplinks. I really like the page she made using ROY G. BIV (as the name used to memorize the rainbow colors.) We plan to use her page and I also want my son to draw a picture of Roy G. Biv. I know he will be a colorful guy!

Here is a great printable booklet on Noah's Ark. You may print it out in color or black and white (for your child to color.) The last page does say how God sent a rainbow as a promise never to flood the earth again.

These are nametages but will be great to use as pockets to hold booklets, etc.

Here are two things we are using out of reproducible books I have. The first is a booklet called My favorite color. It goes through all the colors ending with a rainbow and asking the child what their favorite color is. You can find the book Mini-Book of the Weekhere!

(This book has 40 great reproducible books that are great for lapbooking! I got mine throught Scholastic Book clubs but you can get it at the link above.)

We also used a Noah's ark SHAPES game from this book!

Here is another GREAT rainbow printable that we are also using. This is form another participant in Little Laplinks but I wanted to post it here on my blog as well --for my friends who come by my blog -but are not members of Little Laplinks.

God Made Rainbows (foldable book): Color in the color words! Made by lapbooklessons.com

Check out the other particpants of Little Laplinks for April's rainbow theme! The host, Valerie has a lot of great links too!

I will add photos of our completed lapbook once it is done! I'll add more links and crafts as I come across them, too- so check back!

Tot School

Carisa hosts a great meme from her blog 1+1+1=1 called Tot School. We post some of the activities we have done with our younger children throughout the past week and then link up on her post. All of us participating can then easily visit each other for some new ideas or encouragement!

Here is some of what we did this past week:

This week we worked a lot on our rainbow labook. Our completed lapbook will be posted here on my blog soon. Most of the pictures from that I will be posting then. (so.. check back if you want to see it!  )

One day my son played cars and I had him sort all the colors by their color. He then counted them all for me and I ask him comparison questions like which color has the most/least cars? Which color has only 3 cars?, etc. It was a fun way to incorporate some lessons.

Another fun acticity this week was coloring with RoseArt's Magicolor special coloring book and markers. The markers were clear and only made their color on this special paper. Colorific and Crayola (Color Wonder) have products like this. I got this set on clearance and tucked it away. I really like it. They can't get the colors on their clothing or anywhere- it only works on the special paper so it's mess-free!

Thursday was our co-op/homeschool group. They are both in my L.A.M.B.S (Learning And Memorizing Bible Stories) class. We learned what "fishers of men" means in the story of when Jesus told Peter and Andrew to cast their nets and fish in the deep water (after catching no fish all night). Their nets were so full of fish that the nets broke. Jesus then told them (and the other men there that became the disciples) to
