Our Homeschool Co-op Day: September
Oct. 7, 2007 • 5:43 PM
A Quick overview of our Homeschool group Day last Thursday (sorry this is so late in getting posted- too busy lately to get photos loaded, etc.)
Our day started promptly at 10 am. We always begin in prayer. The Creative Writing assignment was: Something I want to learn more about this year. Why this seems interesting, etc.
The first class was English from the Roots Up. The root word was graph (greek origin)
Then the children split into two groups the older ones 7 and up had Art appreciation while I taught the 2-6 year olds in a class called LAMBS (Learning And Memorizing with Bible Stories).
The older children studied Pablo Picasso this time. They made Owl pictures like one of his pieces of artwork. They painted the Owl in bright colors then collaged paper around the owl.
These are my children's Owls:

The little ones studied the Fruits of the Spirit. With having 2 and 3 year olds in the class I need to keep things short and always changing to keep everyone's attention. Our class went very smoothly this time. We started with a puppet skit. I told them a little about the Fruits of the Spirit and we read Galations 5:22-23. I had a short VHS where the song Fruit of the Spirit was song to a marching band. Then they played a game called Don't upset the fruit basket. Each child was a fruit. We had 2 apples, 2 bananas, 2 peaches, etc. When I called out "Apple", the 2 apples had to switch spots. When I said that the fruit basket spilled then everyone changed places. This got them active and even the youngest ones could do it. Then they got a packet of coloring pictures on the fruits of the spirit. The glued (using glue sticks) foam fruit pieces to the cover and then colored the pictures. We watched the movie again and this time marched with the matching band out to the lunch area for our lunchtime. After eating, the children all played outside a little
In the afternoon we had a class on Nutrition and Meal Planning. It was on Proper proportions and Balance in meals. Then Galloping the Globe. where they learned about France and Europe. The day ended with The Human Body Class. This was on the Circulatory system: Heart and Blood. My sister-in-law teaches this class. She was a nurse by profession. She brought a heart/lung from a pig and also a cow's heart (which is much larger than a human's. It made it easier to see the parts.etc.) The kids took turns touching the organs and pushing on the lungs, etc. (Then of course washing their hands) It was very interesting!

Above are the pig organs then the cow heart (cut in half). Below is the Cow heart. (Sorry if this is gross to you but it was an excellent learning resource.)

Ewwww! That's really gross. I can't hardly look at it. My kids would have loved to touch it though. I will show them the pics tomorrow. Thanks for sharing them.
Blessings,
Lori
