Our Homeschool Group: October Co-op Day!

Oct. 23, 2007 • 6:14 PM

October 18th, 2007 - Homeschool Co-op Day!

We read the Creative Writing assignments throughout the day! The children were able to choose a prompt from a whole calendar of good writing prompts. Thanks to Proverbs 22:6 Academy for this great resource! And.. Great job to you, kids!

Our English from the Roots Up Class worked with the greek root of TELE.

The youngest children kept busy with a bear theme in the morning while the older ones had The Human Body Class. The little ones each brought a teddy bear or teddy's friend. They all sat on a quilt and then took turns doing Show & Tell with their bears! Then they listened to a book on tape called "Bear's New Friend" By: Karma Wilson. The illustrations are very whimsical and done by Jane Chapman. Then they did a teddy bear SHAPES booklet for a craft.

The Human Body Class was on the respiratory system.

Here are the pictures from the activities. (Unfortunately I couldn't be in the class as I was leading the younger class but I did get photos of their projects, etc.

Here is the organ: This time is was a set of lungs, etc. It is so amazing to actually see the body's organs up close and touch them. (They are of course animal organs)

The Lungs: (The butcher said they believe the left side was injured & that is why that side is so dark in color. The instructor made the slice in it so the children could feel inside.)

The children are each making large paper bodies and adding "organs: each time. Here is Princess, Pilgrim, and others working on them.

The Nutrition & Meal Planning Class was on Deciphering Ingredients, Reading labels and Hunting for Hidden Sugars! My kids are learning a lot from this class too. They can't wait until they start planning and preparing the lunch menu and meals.

Then lunch and physical education (group games)

After lunch the older children did the Art appreciation Class on Claude Monet.  The younger children had their LAMBS class (Learning And Memorizing Bible Stories). This class was on David & Goliath. They heard the story then they took turns throwing a (duct tape) ball representing David's stone) at a large goliath on the wall.

Here is my Precious next to my Goliath figure!

Then they watched the Veggie Tales version on the story while resting and/or coloring the booklet they got to take home with them.

We finished off the day with reading the remaining Creative Writings and Clean-up!

Isaiah 54:13 "And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord, and great shall be the peace of thy children."

I really love that human anatomy class. How awesome! The picture of Goliath looks a lot like one that the kids in our teen class drew once. Your little one looks so cute next to the giant. My little ones, now, resemble the giant. :o( They grow up so fast!

Blessings,
Lori

Sounds like a great co-op!
Those lungs do look a little bruised.
That's a great pic with the little one next to Goliath! So teeny compared! :)
