Homemade Rice Bags!
Nov. 27, 2007 • 5:38 PM
We have used rice bags in our home for many years now. They are basically a fabric sac of rice that when heated keeps the heat and soothes areas with aches and pains. They are great! They mold onto your face, down on your eyes and really help soothe headaches. They are a natural helper!
They can also be used for:
Sore muscles
Back aches
Easing the pain of fibromyalgia and arthritis
Helping breastfeeding moms lower their milk and give comfort to sore
Warm up cold feet in bed
Keeping food warm on the table or while being transported. Just put the dish on top of the heating bag.
These bags can also be frozen, and used as a cold pack.
We are making homemade rice bags this year to give away as gifts but also to sell at the Children’s Craft bazaar. They are very easy to make! You just sew a rectangle, leaving a small opening. Turn right sides out and add rice using a funnel. Then hand stitch the small opening closed. On some of them we used two different coordinating fabrics.

We also are making some tags to put on our rice bags. I am printing them out on the computer and backing them with paper or fabric. Adding a bow and attaching them to the bag using a small safety pin!
Here is the poem we are using:
The Rice Bag
This little pillow filled with rice,
Is such a comforting device.
Microwave for 2 minutes on high
And kiss those aches and pains goodbye.
Apply it to the troubled spot,
The heat will ease the pain a lot.
Or warm those little toes so cold,
You'll find this nice to have and hold.
Or freeze it for a little while,
And fix that booboo up in style.
Instead of a compress made of ice,
Use this pillow filled with rice.
Here is our finished product:

If we have some rice bags left after the sale, we will probably keep a few to use. WE currently have two but now that my children like using them, they are often fought over as more than 2 family members want to use them.
Then if we still have a few, I plan to make up some Get-Better baskets to have on hand for when we hear that a loved one is ill. The baskets will contain a rice bag, a small box of band-aids, a can of chicken soup, a bag of Vitamin C drops, and a good book to read while resting! (maybe a journal book, too!)
I am not sure how much we should charge though at the Children's Craft Bazaar!? I want to cover our costs and let the kids make some money on them but don't want to overcharge like you find at some craft shows. The kids will be more excited if many sell! Do you think $5.00 is too much or a good price?? Please let me know in the comments. I could go down to $4.50.

I get migraines and use my rice bag (is actually an old sock) all the time. Yours are much cuter though. Good luck selling them!

Believe it or not, I think $5 *sounds* easier to pay than $4.50. And it makes a unique gift. =D

$5.00 looks like a good deal, I wouldn't go any lower. They make good gifts too. Thanks for sharing. Blessings. :)
