Article: Homeschooling Surges in U.S.
Sep. 23, 2008 • 8:31 AM
Did you see this on Fox News, a national news channel? I missed it as it was on earlier than I expected but here it is in a (short) article online. Check it out. It is a positive story on homeschooling!
Homeschooling Surges in U.S. as Parents Reach for Legal Rights
Another positive portrayal of homeschooling is in the movie Nim's Island. Have you seen it? If not, I recomend it. It was very good. This adventurous tale kept the attention of boy and girl alike- of all ages. My husband and I both liked the movie as much as the kids. Nim says at the beginning of the movie that she is homeschooled! (...actually she says "I'm island-schooled). She loves to read, had a very creative imagination, and is energetic and full of life. The only thing I didn't like about the movie is that Nim called her father "Jack" (his name) quite often instead of dad, daddy, or father. She still called him daddy sometimes but I didn't like that she called him by his name as I feel that shows less respect and love or closeness. (That was just something small though and of my preference). The story had excitement, adventure and suspense plus was clean entertainment.

I also liked how each of the 3 main characters in this story showed bravery!

I love Nim's Island! =D
I don't know why but it kind of reminded me of the old Pippi Longstocking movies I saw as a kid....
And I thought Jodie Foster was hilarious... Seeing her do comedy was part of why I wanted to see it!

HI there, just letting you know that I've given you an award on my blog. No pressure to pass it on though.
Thanks for the movie recommendation, it is hard to find good movies these days!

I often notice that homeschoolers are portrayed as weird, though smart, in several movies that the kids and I have watched recently--RV, Mean Girls, etc. It's a shame that people can be so out of touch. What we really need are more homeschoolers to write books, movies, plays, and give us our proper place, huh? Also, have you noticed the number of young school-aged celebrities who consider themselves "homeschooled" by their private tutors? It is interesting that, as strangely as we're portrayed, it is becoming increasingly cool to be a weirdo!
God bless you--your family's beautiful, by the way!
