Spears Art Studio
Dec. 10, 2008 • 11:42 PM

As part of the TOS Homeschool Crew, I was able to reveiw another great homeschooling product. This time it was the Spears Art Studio. This is a curriculum for K-8 th grade and has all 9 years worth of material within!

Diane Spears is the author and creator of this curriculum. She is a certified teacher in both elementary and secondary education and has been an educator off and on for 30 years. She also has her doctorate in Christian Education and Art.
The lessons are arranged by months of the school year starting with September through May with holidays and seasons also included. Lessons can be chosen according to your child's grade (K-8). She gives suggestions on how to tailor themes to each grade/level so you could teach the same theme to multiple grades. Each lesson includes a theme objective, patterns, vocabulary, a materials list, an art history segment with book list and list of artist, scripture references, and biblical concepts. Samples of completed art projects are usual shown for greater help and inspiration. Most projects did not require expensive art projects and she was clear and thorough in explaining instructions
I especially like the Spears Art curriculum because it is Biblically based. Every lesson contains scripture verse! God was the very first artist and what an amazing artist! I feel He should be part of every art lesson and that is just what Diane has done. Spears Art Studio, Inc.’s mission statement is… to recognize the hand of God in everything and to give Him glory! As parents, especially homeschooling parents, I feel we should be doing this in all aspects of our life too- recognizing the hand of God in everything and giving Him the glory!
There is so much in this curriculum but don’t get overwhelmed at first. It is nine years of art lessons for $39.95. That’s a great deal!
Some of the projects may be hard for a homeschooler as they need a good bit of wall space but you could adapt these lessons fairly easy. There are so many lessons within the curriculum, you may also choice to skip these lessons and you would still have plenty of great projects, unit studies to complete. Remember there is 9 years worth of lessons.
Teach your children art from a Biblical World View!
If this sounds like something you'd be interested in having for your family's art curriculum, check out Spears Art studio online!

Hello! Hey, I'm heading to Colorado for a few days so I wont be around, but I pray that you have a wonderful Christmas celebration. We're celebrating Christmas this weekend here in town, then heading off to the snow. That should be fun for a bunch of Californians. lol. Have a great next few weeks.
