Watch this amazing video! God has created such amazing creatures both on Earth and in the waters. Check this out! This video is great and shows things we will most likely never see in "real life".
You can find another amazing Ocean Animal video by David Gallo, here! "David is a pioneer in ocean exploration, he is an enthusiastic ambassador between the sea and those of us on dry land"
We finished our Pre-K Ocean theme lapbook. We are almost done with the others too. We will soon post my son's shark lapbook, my oldest daughter's (older level) ocean creatures lapbook, and my second daughter's Dolphin & Whales Lapbook. (Look for them soon! )
Here's is "Peanut's" ocean lapbook. This one we started with a regular folder and modified it into a lapbook.
We are doing 4 different lapbooks for different age levels, etc.
We plan to do a preschool ocean creatures lapbook as well as a 6th grade level ocean creatures lapbook. Then my 8yr.old son is making a shark lapbook while my 9yr old daughter is making a dolpins (and whales) lapbook! We plan to do a lot of fun crafts as well. Check back to see those!
If you have some links you wouldn't mind sharing with me, I'd love to know of them. Leave them in the comments or blog them and let me know where to find your post! (Thanks!)
Here are the links I found (so far): Check them out for your own unit study and/or lapbooks!
May's theme for our preschool lapbook through Little laplinks is...FLOWERS!
Updated* Here is our FINISHED Lapbook! (Read below for most of the links to make one!)
At first I didn't think my son would do this one. My girls thought it was "girly". I guess since their bedrooms are full of flower prints, etc. I ask my son and told him that God made all the flowers so He must really love flowers and also mommy likes them a lot, too. He told me he wanted to make one so I started searching. I hope we do an animal one next though! He'd love the ocean creatures one! If you want to try lapbooks or want an easy way to pull one together with your preschooler(s), check out Little Laplinks (at Lapbook Lessons)
Here are the links for things we plan to print and use in our lapbook:
We did paint dabber/Bingo stamper art in our TOT SCHOOL this past week. They have some flowers patterns! We did one and cut around it to hopefully include in his lapbook as well! Here is the link so you can pick out a flower page to print and make! You can also use circle stickers if you don't have the dabbers!
Alphabetical order Cards: Flower names! (a little too above my son's level but will be great for next year as we plan to use and review these lapbooks for preschool and kindergarten!)
My son is a little too young for this right now but I might save it for him and put it in a pocket for next schoolyear! It is a cute SEED ADDITION BOOKLET (flapbook style)
Craft projects to do that can be added to your lapbook!
1. Take a walk outside and collect some flowers with your child. Bring them inside and lay between two pieces of waxed paper and place inside (the back of) a heavy book. This will press the flowers. (Or use a flower press if you have one!) Once pressed, preserve by laminating them with either a laminating machine or between clear contact paper. Add these in some way to your child's lapbook. It would be neat to use these to match up with a drawing of that flower or the name of it/ info. cards for a great true-to-life matching game. When your child plays it, they won't only be learning names of the flowers but I'm sure remembering the fun tiime he/she had picking those flowers with mom!
2. Flower creation made up of your Family Hands! See this done Here!
What Plants Need and the Parts of a Plant activities from the book: File Folder Games (Science) published by Carson-Dellosa. (sorry! I couldn't find it on Amazon-books)
We always try to find things we have "stashed" in our homeschool things. We found a Scholastic hand-out called "Schoalstic News" that you cut and make into a book called "Amazing Plants". (I have a good friend that used to be an elementary-aged public school teacher and she would give our co-op all her extra "Scholastic News" I saved them knowing they'd be just right for unit studies or lapbooks!
Also- check out your local dollar store for things to go with your themes! We got some neat flower cut-outs!
And... Here are two cute songs/poem you can do with your preschooler(s). You could type them into a document and print them to keep in the lapbook as well!
Poem:
Little Brown Seeds
Little brown seeds so small and round,
Are sleeping quietly underground.
Down comes the raindrops,
Sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle.
Out comes the rainbow,
Twinkle, twinkle, twinkle.
Little brown seeds way down below,
Up through the earth they grow, grow, grow.
Little green leaves come out one by one.
They hold up their heads and look at the sun. (Author unknown)
Song:
Little Seed ("I'm A Little Teapot" tune)
I'm a little seed
In the dark, dark ground.
Out comes the warm sun,
Yellow and round.
Down comes the rain,
Wet and slow.
Up comes the little seed,
Grow, grow, grow! (Author unknown)
This is a really awesome site for making mini-offices. There is almost everything you need to get started. Just print and glue in a lapbook and you have your mini-office!
Here is the video of our completed Rainbows Labook (preschool level). The links are below if you wish to make your own and would like to use some of the same free resorces!
Here are the items we put into the back pocket of our lapbook:
This is a Noah game where the child matches up the animal pieces to the matching color and shape on the board. This was reproducible and in the book: File Folder Games for the Christian Classroom (see below for more info.)
This is something we've had and never really used so I included it here so we'll use it. On one side of the cards is the Noah's Ark story and then each card becomes a piece to a big puzzle when flipped to the back!
The next thing we included were transparent color paddles. These are to learn color mixing. When one is placed on another a new color is made! These can be bought at Orientaltrading.com. They come with three sets of all the rainbow colors.
Here my lil'cowboy and girl are just lining them up!
Whenever possible I hope to give my child a treat/prize (within the theme if possible) when we complete a lapbook! This time it was a rainbow lollipop.
He loved it! Later in the evening he comes inside and gives me a flower from the garden and tells me that it is is my prize! It was so incredibly sweet!
The Lapbook theme for April at Little Lapbooks is...
Rainbows!
We are excited to get started on our preschool lapbook because we have been working on identifying colors. Plus the story of Noah and the Rainbow's promise- What a great lapbook this will be!
Color Mixing Rainbow Activity Sheet: This page is so great. It has Red + Yellow = Orange written out with rainbow shapes for your student to color in. It then also has other color mixing equations to color! I am so glad we found this page!
Interactive Paper Plate Ark: Add the animals! Here is a great printable craft. The print-out just gets cut out and glued to a paper plate (pocket). The cut-out animals get glued to popsicle sticks and get inserted into the Noah's Ark pocket! Very Cute & interactive for a toddler!
Here is a cute craft (Picture below) that we plan to do and glue right into our lapbook since it will be flat. I think I will use strips of cut paper instead of crepe or tissue paper for the color strips of the rainbow. Use your child's name in place of the name Giovanna. I plan to make the cloud on folded paper so when I will cut it out , I'll have a booklet that will open to my child's name written vertically with things written in about him starting with the given letter!
A Rainbow Under the Sea: Ocean Animals Book. This is a little advanced for preschoolers but I will help my son a little with it. It is neat to see all the different colors from the rainbow under the sea! God created rainbows everywhere! (I think you must be a member of Enchanted Learning to print this one!- Sorry!)
A great homeschooling mom (and missionary) at her blog 1+1+1=1 has added links as another participant in Little Laplinks. I really like the page she made using ROY G. BIV (as the name used to memorize the rainbow colors.) We plan to use her page and I also want my son to draw a picture of Roy G. Biv. I know he will be a colorful guy!
Here is a great printable booklet on Noah's Ark. You may print it out in color or black and white (for your child to color.) The last page does say how God sent a rainbow as a promise never to flood the earth again.
These are nametages but will be great to use as pockets to hold booklets, etc.
Here are two things we are using out of reproducible books I have. The first is a booklet called My favorite color. It goes through all the colors ending with a rainbow and asking the child what their favorite color is. You can find the book Mini-Book of the Weekhere!
(This book has 40 great reproducible books that are great for lapbooking! I got mine throught Scholastic Book clubs but you can get it at the link above.)
We also used a Noah's ark SHAPES game from this book!
Here is another GREAT rainbow printable that we are also using. This is form another participant in Little Laplinks but I wanted to post it here on my blog as well --for my friends who come by my blog -but are not members of Little Laplinks.
God Made Rainbows (foldable book): Color in the color words! Made by lapbooklessons.com

To join in and share ideas and links, check out this site for the other Little Laplinks participants!
Here are the links we are using:
We are doing the Wordless Book idea from fellow homeschool mom, Jamin. You can find this idea Here!
Here is a Jesus Loves Me Page! We printed it and plan to cut just the top part out to use (cutting on the line) We will then fold in half so the John 3:16 is the inside of a booklet. The outside will be a small picture (from a different source or maybe a photo of my son with Jesus Loves Me written above)! click here to go to this page!
Here you can make a CUSTOM printable booklet that says Jesus Made_______! (It Will insert child's name in he blank.) Scroll down to where it says custom books, choose Boy or Girl. You just fill out the simple answers to their questions, click to make booklet, then print it out for your child to color and make! VERY CUTE!
This site, kidexplorers.com has 2 great pages. Scroll down to coloring through the Bible section. click on .pdf under Jesus loves children for a neat line pattern-drawing of Jesus with children. It tells how Jesus loves children! They also have a Valentine for Jesus (printout version)
This site has a great printable card entitled Father's Love Letter. It is geared for an older person but can be read to a child. It includes a poem that is completely made of MANY Bible verses! Click where it says printable greeting card!
Tic Tac Toe: I will write"Jesus Loves Me!" on each square! Click on the Valentine tic tac toe link.
This one is WONDERFUL!!! This is a neat booklet called "Jesus and Me". Print it and add something different to each page (stars, fish, animals, heart stickers, etc.) The booklet reads:
Enjoy the links. Please comment if you have any others! I am anxious to start this lapbook with my preschool son! He has really loved making his preschool lapbooks and I think this will be a special one!
We missed doing the Christmas Preschool Lapbook. Things were just too busy here! We finished our January one though! Below you wil find the slideshow of our completed lapbook and also the links I found to use! Hope you enjoy if you are making one. If you want to also see the other Laplinks, click Here! Scroll below our lapbook slideshow for our links!
Here is out finished Penguin Lapbook! Some of the information added was so that I could read this to my son. He is too young to write so having information that he can learn about our topic is something I like to add besides his projects and photos!
Notice my son's shirt! He wore his penguin shirt to work on his projects! I also made up these snacks. They don't look a lot like penguins but my kids knew what they were and they tasted good! Made with Oreos, candy corn and Wilton chocolate wafers (used to melt for chocolate molds)
Here is a really great site for anyone who makes lapbooks. It has directions and photos for Step Books, Flip Flap Books, Fact Flippers. Accordian Booklets, Fan books, Tall Tales, Abe Lincoln Book, Shirt Books, Poof Book, Clue boxes, SlitBooks, Peek over pieces, House, TV, Circle and other shaped books. And even more! Check it out!
We have been making preschool lapbooks by participarting in Little Laplinks. You just post(at least) one link for the given topic and then go back and check out the other participants on the Mr. Linky. It is an easy way to make a great lapbook! Check it out Here!
I will print out the Legend of the candy cane - cut it out and let my preschooler glue it in sections in this booklet. He can also color the red stripes on the candy cane! (He loves markers- washable ones, of course!)
Our PreK Lapbook on PILGRIMS is complete and I just got it posted! If you'd like to see it, Click HERE! You will also be able to access the links I posted in case you want to use them to make your own Pilgrim or Thanksgiving Lapbook! You could print and save the papers for next year, file it, and have it all ready to go!
Here is our completed lapbook. If you want the links for the materials inside though, please click to the link above.
"Peanut" mostly does the coloring and gluing (which he loves to do.) I do all the cutting and organizing! On this one, he likes making the Pilgrim faces over and over again- they are are so funny!
Can't wait to see what theme our PreK lapbook will be this month (December). If you want to join in and easily make an elementary level lapbook with your little one, check out this link at www.LittleBlots.com !
Two great printable books:One on the colors of our Thanksgiving foods, One called “I am thankful for…. (and has prompts for child to draw a picture.) If your child is very young, you can take photos of him/her with the items mentions: photo of family, friends, toys, etc.) It makes a very cute memory book!
Add a face! Print out the Pilgrim Man and The Pilgrim Woman. FUN IDEA!: Cut or tear face pieces from magazines. Laminate them. Place in an envelope and allow child to make silly faces! (over and over again!)
Thanksgiving pilgrims Puzzle: Print and glue to cardboard. (laminate with contact paper if you wish.) Parent cut the pieces out and place in an envelope with the full picture glued onto the envelope so the child can see the picture they want to put together!

Here is our preschool Pumpkin Lapbook. We did this with the help of the links from the friends at Little Laplinks. Check out the other Laplink participants here!
"Peanut" really enjoyed making this Lapbook. He notices pumpkins everywhere and it really helped him to learn the color orange. I did all the cutting. He did the coloring and gluing. He loves to glue things! He also tried rubber stamping for the first time.
This is another meme I am going to try to do. I wanted to do some fun preschool activities with my preschooler, Peanut. I think he will like doing his own lapbooks (with mommy) a lot and won't they be fun to pull out when he is older and look through! Hey, there's nothing wrong with starting them early on lapbooks, right!
So this is where I think this meme is going to be so helpful. I love doing fun learning activities with my children but with 5 children at different learning stages I seem to never have enough time to do everything I want to (although I know I do try to plan too much!) Anyway, each meme participant will list websites they found helpful for their preschooler's lapbook on a given subject. This week it is pumpkins. The lapbook can be made after the week is over of course. We found many great things easily (with the help of the others and I just had to search for a few things). I know he will love this and learn a lot, too. I think we will be able to do this in one evening after pulling all our papers together!
Little Blots of Faith is hosting this meme Called Little LapLinks.
Here is the link if you would like to do some of these with your preschooler! Little Laplinks
Our Laplinks for: PUMPKINS!
Here is our completed lapbook! The links we used are below!
Cards on how a pumpkin grows. I plan to cut these out and make a book with them. He can glue them onto orange paper and I'll put them together in a booklet with a pumpkin cover.
Next is a wonderful site full of great things for their little lapbooks. We printed the Peter Pumpkin Eater in color. Then we printed out the poem for him to color in himself and place with this.
We also printed the pumpkin (like above) that you add a face by using the shapes. I plan to laminate this before adding it to the lapbook. I will add an envelope or ziplock baggie to keep the pieces in. The face can be an activity that can be done over and over again.
This is the site for these two activities (above)!
Next I wanted to add something in his lapbook dealing with the fact that pumpkins are orange so I got this poem/song from this site! I hope to add some orange circles or shapes around the border of the poem! Sung to the tune of: "Yankee Doodle"
Orange is the color of
so many things we see.
Would you like to sing
a little orange song with me?
Orange juice and orange cheese
Orange Carrots, if you please.
Orange pumpkins, orange leaves,
Let's sing a song of Orange.
Happy Pumpkin Lapbooking with your little Pumpkin(s)! "Orange" you glad we decided to do this! (I know that was a little corny but I had to add it!) HeeHee
