That Girl (parental discretion advised)

The poem below does not contain profanity or explicit material, but it does openly address an issue important to many. I had my son (14) read it and he thought it was suitable but suggested I leave a buffer.

Please do not scroll further if you think you might be offended.

That Girl

That girl, the one on the screen,

Do you know the one I mean?

Think she wanted to end up there,

When she was little,

An object only for to stare.

I wonder when it started,

When her self esteem got parted?

Maybe father’s love unfilled,

Maybe he crossed the line,

So many ways hearts are killed.

Maybe she was real hungry,

For some food, love, drugs or money.

What if she had no choice?

It happens even now,

Held a captive with no voice.

Oh, and there is a market,

They are right on target.

Take God’s gift for us to share,

Natural love made to lust,

Lives lay fodder without care.

No need to ask about the hook,

Young ones used to find Dad’s books.

Now it bombards all the time,

Turn on your computer,

Or wait in the food store line.

Being man is hard enough,

Though some carry extra stuff.

Like the girls, boys gets shattered,

Attention, the wrong kind,

Same results, lives get battered.

They say there is no victim,

That’s the Relativist moral dictum.

What about the change inside,

Left to grow who knows what,

All waves in an evil tide.

Unknown lives left in ruin,

Families crushed, to rocks strewn.

Work done by cultures current,

Devourer sits to watch,

Masses brought to his torment.

How to get beyond the reach,

What to do and what to teach.

Answers are in God’s dealings,

His love and forgiveness,

Take a step and start healing.

Comment to Readers: Last night I heard the statistic that 95% of boys ages 8-18 have been exposed to pornography. So I figured if that were true, then this poem would be appropriate and relevant for homeschool blog space.

Well put

I taught my sons (at 13 and 14) that each girl they looked at would probably wind up in Heaven with them. (We were homeschooling, with the TV off, so most of the girls they saw on a regular basis went to our church.) I told them that whatever they fantasized about the young lady would probably be known to her "up there." I encouraged them to consider how they would explain their more explicit thoughts to her when they gathered at the Throne.

It really helped them through that season of temptation.

(Of course, sin being what it is, it didn't prevent ALL trouble. But it did help.)

The other 5%

Trying, but God's grace, to bring up 2 boys in the other 5%. The scars run deep, and the enemy is all around. May God grant us the wisdom to guard not just their eyes, but their hearts.

Come quickly Lord Jesus.

Great poem

Did you write it, or get it somewhere? I like it a lot. It captures how easy it is to be exposed to those elements. My boys are 5 and 2 and the battle has already started. Not because they are drawn to it (yet) but it is just so prolific.
Thanks,
Toby
