Monday was a busy day with Ortho appt for 12yo and taking care of Kittens and some school (very little) along with other errands but, most of all a important day for Miah.

See Miah has been taking Wilton Cake Decorating Classes since June.
What started out as something simple for his 10th Birthday Present became something very important, serious and enjoyable for Miah.
Miah has always loved to cook he has been in the kitchen since he was old enough to stand and walk on his own. [He would pull a chair by the stove, climb on it and asked to stir the pasta or fry the ground meat when he was still in a diaper].
He began Course 1 in June 2008.

We started on a rocky side of the Instructor's Mind, we let her know that Miah was serious and really enjoyed cooking and she allowed him to take part in her class.
Like I knew he would he took his class very seriously.

He took time for his work and wanted to do his best.

During Course 1 NO ONE could believe Miah was making the cakes except his instructor and those in class. (including mom).

Although I didn't take pictures of days in class when it was hard there were those days and Miah would cry because it was hard or he couldn't get something right, right away.

But, even when he would have a mess up or I would mess him up his cakes always seemed to turn out beautiful anyway.

At the end of Course 1 Miah wasn't sure if he was going to continue into Course 2 because he didn't think he was that good at it or getting it and that is when his Instructor accepted him and invited him to Course 2 that she was thankful and amazed at how beautiful of a job he had done and could do and she gave him a coupon for the next class and a free Wilton Cake Decorating Book.
In Course 2 was Flowers...
He again had some difficult moments and times in class and getting up but, he didn't give up and wouldn't give up.
He would shed a few tears and pick up his Decorating bag and go again. [I have shed a few tears for his cake class when the cakes have fallen or not turned out at all].

By the end of Course 2 (making all the flowers and everything needed) the last Class for Course 2 was putting together this beautiful lovely cake, He did a amazing job.
This cake he gave to his Sister for her 5th Birthday.

Miah didn't hesitate to take Course 3 and his Instructor was pleased to have him returning.
He was excited to work with Fondant although he doesn't like the taste of it (although he does like Silk Fondant) better he does love decorating with it.

When Miah learned what fondant was like, felt like, tasted like and how to work with it, we were playing with play dough one day and he made this out of play dough.
I thought it was great because he used no templates or nothing just his play dough tools and what he had learned in class.

During Course 3 Miah had to make more flowers lots of them for the big cake at the end.
Each class they made flowers...

Also some Fondant Flowers

So he could put together this Amazing Wedding Cake by a
10 year old.

By the end of Course 3 everyone in Miah's classes were proud of him, employee's at the store, his instructor and most of all Me
(his mom) I knew he could do it.
Miah is very well known in the Store he took the classes at, they all love his cakes.

Now Miah had Successfully Completed Courses 1, 2 and 3 and earned the respect he deserved, he proved to himself and others that he could do it and did.
He has come along way not only in cake decorating skills but, his patience, intelligence, motor skills and more.
There was one class offered but, not part of the courses per say but, he decided he wanted to just go ahead and take it the one class he had been looking forward to all summer and the last.
Fondant and Gum Paste
(which he has discovered he doesn't like the taste of gum paste either).
His First Cake in Fondant And Gum Paste

His fondant and gum paste class this month of September wasn't to bad some of the other courses were more difficult I think for Miah due to what needed to be made and how but, he did it.
He made this most lovely Favor Box [for his very last cake for class not forever of course, he wants to be on Food Network Someday and he still wants to take more classes and attend some of the Wilton School Camps and Classes for kids next year as well as some other classes the store will be offering].

He made these flowers and leaves for his final cake

Now for Miah's last cake he decided to make a Dummy Cake, Fake Cake, or Display Cake whatever you wish to call it...it's not real.
He wanted to make this kind of cake so that he could keep it around for awhile like a reward or trophy for all his hard work.
Here is Miah in his Cake Class Monday Sept. 29th, 2008 working to put his very last cake for class together, he had to press hard on his template cutting tool.
Being that Miah is only 10 years old sometimes he hands were too small or he isn't strong enough yet which was a disadvantage for him but, he would try and many times get what he was trying to do and when he couldn't his instructor would come help. {But, she always allowed him to try first}.

Here is Miah working with his Instructor.

Display Cake:
