Kinder Kids At Barracuda Corner (#3)

Posted in Kinder Kids

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

It's been a short week in Kinder Kids this week

 (and in Barracuda Corner).

Bumblebee worked in her Math U See this week Lesson 3 Number Recognition and Writing Numerals basically a review from lessons 1 and 2.

MUS Math U See Primer Set Kindergarten DVD Arithmetic

She didn't get all her language arts done this week she just wasn't up to the worksheets (as we could see in past photos) LOL and she was busy with other activities.

Language Arts Grade K LIFEPAC Workbook 2

She needs to finish up all her Girl Scouts activities before Sept. 28th because she is invited to her Daisy by Mail Graduation Celebration and of course we want to make sure all her activities are completed when she goes so she can graduate, we will be tying those into her school work this month to make sure they are all done and she is ready to go and graduate on Sept. 28th. (Daisy girl scout packets).

Bumblebee was also busy with these activities this week, painting a tote bag for mom from Knack Kids Saturday's from Michael's.

It's really nice how they do Knack Saturday's Now, they sell the kits for 5.00 if you can't make the class you can buy them and do them at home with the kiddos. So, whenever I have 5.00 bucks to spare and I see a cool kit I think Bumblebee and I would love to do together I pick one up.

Bumblebee worked on her Hooked on Spelling this week...

She went to her dance class...

Bumblebee had Awana's (along with her Brothers) this week and since she is in Kindergarten/First this year she was promoted to Sparks!

She was very excited.

Updated Sparks program is a hit with churches!

She helped Daddy water the garden...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

She also watered the garden by herself...

The boys did good in their school work this week also even though it was a short week they all finished their Unit 1 in Alpha Omega Language Arts and they all finished their lesson 3 in Math U See.

So even though it has been a short week it's been a busy week, some struggles were involved but of course I didn't take pictures of those perhaps I should huh? (maybe next time).

We have a busy weekend ahead that is why I am posting Kinder Kids today.

Friday Aug. 29th: Homeschool Day at Cedar Point! (we are taking the kids to breakfast then Cedar Point all day til close, then pizza afterwards). No School!

Saturday Aug. 30th: Melon Festival! (the kids are entering a chalk contest and we are taking a picnic lunch).

Sunday Aug. 31st: Church, Nature Center and Store, Cooking for our labor day cookout.

Monday Sept. 1st: Labor day Cookout! My husband's sister and husband are coming over and my mom will be joining us. (Miah has no cake class and we don't have school).

So I will probably catch up with Friends and Visitors in Blog World on Tuesday or Later when I have something good to share or talk about.

Thanks for visiting!

Dropping in for Week #2

Posted in Kinder Kids

Oh where...Oh Where..

Do I be--gin?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

 Monday Morning...Aug. 18th, 2008 our Second Week

In "Barracuda Corner"...

Our motto this year is: In Word, Outward and Upward! (borrowed from church)

We are taking more of the word in and trying to let it show outward and then moving ourselves upward in character. (working on it!)

It's all about improving our characters, lots of character building um improving this year, making a character lapbook this school year and using www.characterfirst.com

We begin our school each day with a little prayer I made up for the kiddos.

Before we start our academics (Bible is tied in) we don't seperate the two...but, we say this little prayer before we begin...(at the end we conclude with the "Our Father.")

The Lord is the Godhead,

Then Jesus and the Holy Spirit too.

All 3 in one,

Let's give them praise and thanks--for what they see and do.

In Jesus Name--Amen.

(copyright Sheilapay2008)

It's simple to say and easy to understand.

Our Monday started with crazy *normal* morning routine.

Then it was Miah's cake class, he made these in class for his Aug. 25th's Class he's going to be putting a Wedding Cake together in class. (Stay tuned for that picture).

Once home 12yo hit me with as soon as I walk in the door, I broke daddy's guitar. Whhhhhaaaatttt? (some yelling, oh no how are we going to tell your father?)

Here it's just a string...Oh my! why didn't you just tell me it was a string? why didn't you wait until after lunch? LOL

So lunch went normal crazy as usual.

Then we went into Math U See and Alpha Omega Language Arts.

Bumblebee was learning the first week Number Recognition and Counting from 0-9...

Then onto this week Writing Numerals.

SpiderBen in Math was learning first week Place Value and the Manipulatives and this week Counting to 20..."Easy" he said.

Yes, he is wearing his halloween costume from last year during school and everyone thought pajamas. LOL

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Miah wasn't to happy with math this week but, he did it....

First week he worked on Place Value and the Manipulatives also and this week he worked on Sequencing..."Boring but, I like it!" he said.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Our 12yo is being sure he has mastered math skills....(review) so he was working on first week Rectangles, Factors, and Product; Solving for an Unknown (pre-algebra) and word problems.

This week he has been working on...Division by 1 and 2 and Symbols for division.

He is hoping to have this level done by December so he can move onto the next level (right now he feels very far behind--I keep telling him all at your own pace).

In Alpha Omega Language Arts...

Bumblebee worked on first week Long vowels and this week long and short vowels A,E, I, O and U...as well as review of colors, sequence, and largest to smallest and some sight words too.

A worksheet bumbleebee really didn't want to do...

But, I felt (the type of personality I am) that it was important for her to do. (just to be certain I said).

The boys in Language arts are covering for Unit 1 and or 3 weeks:

12yo: Story Messages-Main idea, plot, character, setting, dialogue, diphthong and digraphs.

10yo: Old and New Skills: Vowels, Consonants, Sentence phrases, capital letters and reading skills.

8yo: From Sounds To Words: Talk, Write, Our Alphabet, Vowels and Consanants and Reading Skills.

This is Our Schedule:

Monday: Math U See and Alpha Omega Language Arts

Tuesday: Mystery of History/Geography

Wednesday: Math U See and Alpha Omega Language Arts

Thursday: Math U See and Alpha Omega Language Arts

Friday: Science/Health (only Math and Languge Arts if needed).

(Art 101 the books we purchased, Music: Choir--first semester and Physical Education is Swimming still right now--watch for the pictures).

So...where was I? OH yeah! On Wednesday it was to funny Bumblebee was trying to do her Math, she said  "stop and be quiet So mommy won't have to keep saying do your school work anymore." She was telling her Brothers "Do your school work and be quiet."

She was so tired of telling them to be quiet she did this...

She began cramming toilet paper in her ears...

And Looking like this...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

It was to funny but, I am getting ahead of myself...here...

Monday was swimming after school...oh boy is that water getting cold, then we finished up Monday with supper and tv.

Tuesday Morning...it was (trial dance class) for Bumblebee...Well, to say the least she loved it. (we purchased a semester for her and a cd and she received a free shirt, I am sure the shirt was in my registration somehow.)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

She has a class Tuesday Aug. 26th and then she switches to Friday Mornings in Sept for her fall semester.

I didn't get pictures of her doing her tap and ballet class for the camera was in another room (next time I will) but, I did get her doing her gymnastics and sports incorporated part...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

She didn't know where I was and was a little concerned until she spotted me on the other side of the glass...(no this one isn't a observation window, the one to watch tap and ballet is).

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

A little sports/soccer incorporated in....

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

This was great! They had the girls each take turns and stand on the balance beam, they had to turn to their left (balance), then stand on their toes with their arms in the air and then back down and turn around and arms out and walk off the balance beam (at the end jump down) and say Tada!!

My Bumblebee was able to do it!! ( I was Surprised! I wish I had caught the whole thing on video but, through glass didn't know how good that would turn out maybe next time I will try.)

You go Bumblebee!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

This one she had to crawl along the bars keep balance, not fall and keep her feet on the bars.

She did this but, many of the girls could...but, it was very great to see my Bumblebee be able to do it too.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Bumblebee wants a different outfit for dance, I told her will see..She likes this one at Target that looks like shorts and a body thing, I really like it too and she needs footless tights so we will be getting those too. (well she can switch outfits I suppose, save the purple one for tap performances for the parents.)

It was store after dance class for bread and beverages, then home and lunch/clean up.

Then talk to the kiddos about upcoming events and things taking place....all their activities and programs the next month ahead.... and then Mystery of History, we are just getting started in volume two this second week, first week we reviewed Volume 1.

After Mystery of History it was take teen to work, pick up meat at the store for supper then home, make supper and then it was close to home library for books and a program.

3 of our children won 10.00 gift cards for Target, 1 won 2 indians tickets (he is taking his daddy to the Sept. 20th game)--They Won these from the Summer Reading Program.

At the library after picking out books and movies...the boys went on computers and bumblebee and I went to the play corner...Bumblebee loved this simple noisy toy...although she loved the phone to the right she kept saying "Mom answer your cell phone I am calling you." So I played along....

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

They had this velcro dress up outfit of a doctor or techinician she used it as a apron to cook up some yummy hot dogs with the works.

I told her "I love those invisible hot dogs because I don't get sick or gain any weight and they taste so good."

She laughed and fed me more. LOL

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The library bought this big caterpillar pillow at the beginning of the Catch the Reading Bug and she loves it and uses it everytime we go there...Look at her chillin...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Then it was time for the program to start...3 of the kiddos won door prizes Olive Garden Free kids meals and Miah won a T-shirt..

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

It was a singing program...By Tom Cornwells..

Check out his website and music Bug Songs " www.bugsongs.com "Our kiddos loved it and the songs are so much fun."

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

When we arrived home from the library, it was a little late but the kiddos ate anyway...

Afterwards..Spiderben and Bumblebee watched a movie they took out from the library while 12yo B-Dog helped Miah make his Fondant roses...for Miah's Aug. 25th class...Wedding Cake...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

It was getting pretty late so we wrapped up Tuesday and started again in the morning on Wednesday with Fondant Roses then School.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Miah and the other kiddos were playing with play dough on Wednesday evening before going to dinner (we decided to take the kids to ponderosa use up free kids meal coupons and here they get to eat free on Wednesdays....save the coupons for another day.) then to Target to use their gift cards.

Miah purchased a Art tool box kit, 12yo B-dog bought the model magic and Bumblebee bought the color wonder fingerpaints and paper...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Miah being the cake decorator and all said "Hey Mom and Dad look at my play dough (fondant) cake." LOL

Wow! Out of playdough yes that is play dough not fondant...he has to have talent with cakes someday and all free hand no templates...hmmm...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Ya know what amazed me the most this week?  Was our 17yo Son Aaron played with Playdough and he hates playdough everything about it....I had to snap the picture of course...I haven't seen him touch playdough in years.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

We had entertainment from the Kitty--Lou this week...

We had Lou in a Box I love Lou in a Box.....well, a drawer..he loves paper so he lays in mom's paper drawer..

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I guess Lou also wanted to check out the puzzles...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Thursday....we eased into the day.

I didn't go to bed until late Wednesday night I was up working on lesson plans and putting activities into the planner.

So we slept in and then watched cartoons this morning.

Then we took care of the animals and took care of chores, took teen son to work and then started school about 2pm.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The kiddos didn't have much to do Thursday, Math test over lesson 1 and 2 last week forgot lesson 1 test, completion of Section 2 in language arts and a spelling test, even though they didn't have to much to do today...Bumblebee had a hard time focusing..She said "This was her new hair so she didn't have to hear anyone."

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

We wrapped up school about 4pm...Bumblebee did finish up her schooling but, she insisted on wearing this bubblegum machine plastic container on her mouth.....yes it is clean...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Bumblebee and I completed supper Chicken Broccoli Alfredo.

Later...It was color wonder fingerpaint and water color painting..

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Our First Week In School

Posted in Kinder Kids

It is our first week of official schooling.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

(meaning we did alot over the summer).

I can't say that I am totally ready yet so, we have started off light or on a lighter schedule and once September arrives

(after labor day)

We will start really getting into the flow...(we always crunch first semester getting most of our work done so second semester is more slow down with the weather and all).

Right now we still have programs we are finishing up, new things we are starting, and some traditional programs ahead.

This week:

On Monday Miah had his second cake class he baked his own cake (all I did was put it into the oven and take it out) he made his own icing all I did was add the meringue powder.

Now I did help  him ice his cake, but we were both getting tired.

But, in class he decorated it (with fondant) although neither of us like the taste of fondant but, it defintely makes a cake look beautiful.

(yes, my date stamps are wrong again new camera sorry).

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

In Math U See Miah and SpiderBen were going over place value so we used our Rainbow Game (you can check out our Rainbow Game at the Rainbow Lapbook Blog HERE scroll to the bottom).

Our 12yo was going over Multiplication and Intro to Pre-Algebra

and Bumblebee is working on the whole counting in her Math U See.

Language Arts is pretty much a review or picking up from last year with vowels and consonants for the younger kids (except for SpiderBen more practice on his reading) and Digraphs and Diphthongs, Syllables.... for our 12yo and Bumblebee is still working on her upper case and lower case and sounds.

On Tuesday We were going to have our Mystery of History Volume 1 Review outside in the morning but, that didn't happen due to our slow start.

But, we went to the Ever Upward (choir) picnic our 4 younger children are joining the choir for first semester (they only have it for first semester)...

I did not take pictures of other homeschoolers at the picnic (due to privacy and not wanting to post anyone's picture that didn't want to be or that might be offended since I do not know them all yet).

So here is just our children...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I was a little bummed because I didn't know I was to bring a cooler with drinks...Next time I will know..my children wanted me to turn the dirt into water....

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Our 12yo's new found friend from VBS (her mom) also known as cupcake's mom invited the kiddos to join the choir, we will be setting out for uniforms very soon.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Once the picnic was over we went home and drank lots of water and lemonade...LOL but, we also did our Mystery of History Review only inside (due to evening and all).

Wednesday we took the day as it came...we have been so busy learning, doing and having fun....We tackled our Math U See (pretty much review from Monday or continued learning).

Our language arts the same...school wasn't to difficult nor time consuming but, we make it this way on Wednesday's for when Step-Up clubs kick in and Awana's. (For we are busy on Wednesday's and Reviewing our Verses too).

Although we did get a very adorable picture of Bumblebee for the first week of Kindergarten (School).

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Bumblebee wants to learn the guitar (she is really musically inclined) she loves music and to dance.

So her daddy is taking time to teach her a little here and there...

How to strum it and pluck it...LOL

She has been the only one to have the patience to sit and try.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Here they are thinking of a easier song to do and sing together..

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Bumblebee loves music and dancing so much that we have been looking for a place (non-competitive) to put her in for dance (ballet/tap)...

Well we found a place it's called The Little Gym it's non-competitive and fun, Her first class is Tuesday Aug. 19th at 10:20am-11:20am she can wear tennis shoes to her first class they said and she doesn't have to wear a leotard unless she wants too.

She will go once a week on Tuesday Mornings and the first half hour she has dance and the last half hour gymnastics.

The cost maybe a little a high but, I do believe it will be worth it she can do it for a semester or for the whole year do believe full school year is 340.00 (so it will give us a idea if she likes it) and we can pay in installments like every 5 weeks and or so.

So we will see how that goes for her.

Today Thursday it's been a de-stressing day for Mom.

I am needing to weed through programs of what's important and what's not...

So today the kids finished up language arts sections and lesson one in math...Bumblebee worked on her magnetic counting book from school zone (we got her for her Birthday)...

School Zone Preschool Counting Farm Magnetic Book

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

and Friday we will be devoting to Science.

(I think that will work out better Thursday Math and Language Arts)

Friday Science. (instead of the other way around) Perfecto!

It's been a busy week even though a lighter week and we have lots of things going and a busy weekend ahead..So I thought I would just go ahead and post today...

We are going to be putting together our Pin Map this week--Suggestion from this creative lady North America Pin Map to learn our geography better.

We are also going to be using this ladies suggestion on Animal Classification to help with our Zoology Study in Science it will fit perfectly and perhaps help our children understand better what we are learning...

That pretty much wraps up our week we have two programs this Saturday Our last Bug Show (to wrap up the one reading theme one more to wrap up).

And....A Back to School Free Craft Event At Michael's.

I am with Desi and Lou... It's Playtime!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

How's your First Week Of School?

Welcome To "Barracuda Corner"

My name is Sheila wife to Steve, I was on a path of Preschool Teacher and instead was lead to Homeschooling Mom to 5 children ages 17, 12, 10, 8 and 5. We are going into our 12th year of homeschooling. Which only means to us that I have a good idea what works for our kiddos and what doesn't. (I have moments I don't). I am not perfect just because we homeschool or serve Jesus, I make mistakes like anyone else, spelling mistakes, the way I do or say things, just because we homeschool doesn't change the fact we are still human. I created our homeschool blog for it to be a testimony, log or extention of what we do and hopefully to share with and inspire someone else out there who is homeschooling, thinking of homeschooling or in the beginnings of homeschooling and or anyone who we may inspire. I hope by the time you leave our blog you will feel comfortable, encouraged and energized.
