Breaking the Internet Addiction--8 days and counting!

Okay, people, rejoice with me! My name is Sheila and I'm a political news junkie, and it's now been 8 days since I've been on a political website!
I know most of you probably think that's insanely geeky or something, but I really was a junkie. You should have seen me poring over the election results! But they depressed me, and I think it cured me. Ever since 9/11 I've been on the internet constantly following world news and keeping up with politics, and it just got to be too much. I'm a writer by profession, and when I'm not homeschooling I have deadlines and stuff to do, and too much of that wasn't getting done because I was doing all this "research". So I turned it off, and now I just keep up my own website and do homeschoolblogger. It's so much better!
Do any of the rest of you have these problems? I'd love to feel like I had some company!

That's so funny because I'm the opposite! I'm totally patriotic and couldn't live with myself if I didn't vote at every election, but I don't watch the news on tv or listen on the radio - and the only newspapere I get is our local one that comes to our door free ... so I often feel out of the loop. We have an ABC news ticker that scrolls across the top of our web browser - so if something there looks interesting I click on it - but that's the sum total. I love the democratic process, and like I said - vote every time - but until election time I am just not that involved. And I have no stomach for complaining too much about politicians because I figure we're so lucky to live in countries where we have a democratic process and can vote people out. I just don't get too worked up I guess.

...and I am addicted to the Web. I leave it on all day and often stop what I'm doing to check new email, surf through an educational site, play around with my blog, or read the BBC news. I have tried to break the habit, and do actually realize life is better in 3-D, but have failed miserably. You are not alone, LOL!!!
Hope all is well in Canada (love it up there-miss Tim Horton's); did the weather cooperate enough for you to get your car vacuumed? :)

Hey new friend,
Thanks for stopping by to view my blog. Good for you, for being interested in the political arena. I seem to have no time for anything anymore except for teaching my eldest daughter her High School curriculum.
Yes, I agree with your statement about the regulations of homeschooling in BC becoming more stringent. I'm not sure what the governments'long-range game plan is, but certainly they seem to want to have their noses in what we're teaching at home.
If one opts to simply be a "registered" homeschooler then there really is no government intervention at all. But, then you also don't have access to any resources, and you receive very little monetary reimbursement.
If one opts to be "enrolled" in a Distance Education program that seem to have sprung up all over the province, then the requirements are really quite phenomenal. Having been a teacher in the system prior to homeschooling my own, I would venture to say that homeschool parents are more strictly regulated than a classroom teacher. Everything we do must be documented and a certified teacher must be assigned to supervise. In fact, the assigned teacher is then considered to be the child's primary teacher. Go figure!

I'm so glad you stopped by my blog and commented, because now that I'm reading your blog, I'm totally relating to some of the things you've written, particularly about "research." I've been working on a book for nearly three years because I go too far with research. I've had to limit my Internet time when it comes to political sites because I lose track of time (although I still visit Lucianne.com once a day---can't help it!) You are not alone.
I look forward to getting to know you better :)
