Getting Ready for a BIG LIFE CHANGE!

You those words have always caused me to stop dead in my tracks. They always mean a whole LOT OF WORK. . And usually done by dear old mom with very little back up. Well this time around it will be a bit different. You see, my kids are now older, and I am wiser (notice I didn't say I WAS OLDER! ~ I'm not . . . RIGHT???)

Anyways, We have been dealing with DH's health. Mainly his ticker with a short fuse and tendency to spaz out and quit on us. So this has created quite a stir for our family. We knew it would the second they said the word pacemaker, but you always kind of have a thought in the back of your mind that constantly says "well maybe it'll work out better than you think."

that's not to be this time. In fact the idea has me so terrified that I am not even sure what TO THINK! LOL

DH has been given his walking papers. After 16 years in the navy, They are going to discharge him in 90 days. (With an honorable discharge!) BUT they have deemed him to only be sort of 'bounced around" and therefore, he's of no worth to the navy, and certainly isn't worth his retirement that he has worked all these years for. He will be getting a severence pay, which is good as it will give us a large nest egg for a house when we move, but it's still not the retirement that we were banking on.

So now have less than 8 weeks to pack and get moved to our beloved home in Idaho. Which we have missed to the extreme. But, we have no income to fall back on. So this is TERRIFYING!!  No income, no medical, no dental, no home to live in, but a bit of cash in our pockets--months after we move out there. LUCKILY!! We do have a bunch of family that will back us up if we need them.

So for the next few weeks my time on this and all homeschooling projects will be limited. I will get the kids to finish our ocean box and do our science expirements. After that, I am pretty much closing down shop until we get moved. UGH this has been a hard year to finish out. I don't know if I should just push the rest of the "plan" on to next "school year" or just keep at it and get to it when we do.

I am very thankful that I know that Heavenly Father has a PLAN! because ours just flew out the window. I know that though It seems pretty scary right now, He will come through for us, He always does. So though I'm more nervous that truly terrified (I do love a good exageration!) I am not full of fear.

So folks, please be patient with me if I don't get your emails answered!! I will as soon as I can.

Wishing you all the courage and faith you need, as well as health for your husband and a source of income.

The Book of Virtues study guide could make you a reasonable amount of money, even though you didn't plan for it to. I'm sure some of us will pay after downloading it, if you do need to use it for income.

Blessings,
Annie Kate

Jun. 18, 2009 - So sorry to hear this

That would be rough to hear at 16 years. Will he not be getting disability? I ask this, because we just had our retirement brief (DH is Army), and there were a # of people over 15 years (not quite 20) that were getting out for medical reasons and they were getting some benefits. Please just be sure to double check this! It's a shame that so many military members are willing to accept what some ignoramous has to say, just because they are in the chain of command. (It's also a shame that there are such people in the chain of command!)

Prayers to you and your family.

From the Military, he will get a severance pay and a boot kick to the rear. No medical for us and the kids. He will have anything heart related covered for the rest of his life, but that's about the only thing they will cover.

As for the VA, he will get a rating, which will equal a disability check. BUT, because the military is giving us a severance pay we have to "pay it back" before the VA pays us a monthly income. We have no choice on accepting the severance pay. Nor can we just LUMP sum pay it back from everything I've read.

So we will instead buy a house--for cash--and have a home without a mortgage or rent payment. We think that will be the best option. Especially since no lender in their right mind is going to give someone without any income a loan! LOL.

No basically he is being separated or "divorced" from the navy and given his 1/2 of the house. So this isn't a retirement. Which is a big fat "well RATS" moment! LOL.

But very glad to hear that it seems you have researched this.

Thanks to your husband, yourself, and your crew for serving our country.

What a coincidence?

My friend is a Senior Master Sergeant in the Air Force -and has served 22 years. He has also been told he is not medically fit to continue - he has a knee problem after being pinned by a forklift moving mulch for a Boy Scout fundraiser.

He is retiring July 24th.

May God bless your family as you start a new adventure in your life!

Good luck linda, I hope you guys are getting a plan ready. It's such a change from everything we knew.

My Mom and Dad both served inthe military so civilian life is such a foreign concept to me, I just can't wrap my mind around it!! Hope you have an easy transition.
