Apr. 3, 2009 Zoo 2 Vocab sheets and reviews
Hey all, I was asked on one of my yahoo groups for my file for Apologia-Zoo 2's vocabulary and review sheets. I figured that it would be handy just to have a location I can point others toward so they can download it easily. So I uploaded it and it is now in the Shiver Downloads section on the right board.
I will be creating one for Zoo 3 shortly--but it won't be done until I am done with the Book of Virtues study. Unless we get done with Zoo 2 first!! But I highly doubt it, we still have a few chapters to go.

Mar. 5, 2009 Our ocean box . . . /sigh
Our Zoology 2 Unit has a task that we were thrilled to start at the beginning of the year. We loved it! We worked together to get our Ocean Box put together. And as you can see the box turned out just fabulous. We used a diorama box we found at Hobby lobby and then used paper mache over newspaper to build up our ocean floor with full continental shelf, cave and all! I think the only thing missing really is a coral reef!
But alas, we tried to add critters to it. Unfortunately the critters kept falling apart. The Button Bandit has ventured far and wide and has taken on a new joy--Terrorizing his sisters projects! So we stopped attempting to make them, but we have saved our ocean box.
We decided that it was too heart breaking to make them just to see them destroyed before we could even get them added to our box. So we will set aside a few days to do a massive creation of critters. Then we'll take pictures. LOL, then if mysterious paws should get their fingers where they don't belong, we'll know we finished it. And have pictures!!

This year we are studying oceans! We are using Exploring Creation with Zoology 2: Swimming Creatures of the Second day. It's one of the elementary Apologia Science books by Jeannie Fulbright. We will be making a diorama ocean scene with an ocean floor made out of paper mache and the "critters" made out of clay and painted. As well as doing some research projects and LOTS of trips to the Aquarium. After each section, we'll head down there to really see what we are talking about. So when we talk about turtles we'll go see our famous sea turtle. when we discuss dolphins, we'll go down and watch the dolphins. It will be so nice to be able to really focus on one section and REALLY focus on it.
To start off our study DH came up with a creative idea to jazz up our school area. we have some WHITE cupboards that are really plain and boring. So Dh thought we should paint them. while i liked the idea, i didn't think it would work so well as paint has a tendency to chip if banged, thumped and kicked. And in our house that's a given. So we found an alternative. STICKERS!! But . . . there just isn't that many ocean creature sticker packs. so we had to go searching for some clip art!! After asking on a couple fo yahoo groups, i finally was directed to the www.learningpage.com they have an ocean page that has not only sea creatures, like dolphins, and man-of-wars, but they also have a mural. An under the sea type mural!! I went down to our local Office Depot and purchased full sheet sticker lables. They were cheaper than the ones named sticker paper. I then printed it off on it. we colored it, cut it outand slapped it up on the cupboards. Below is a couple of pictures of our cuboards. the two cupboards are right next to each other so the mural just flows on to the next cupboard. Very neato!!
