God's Simple Plan Of Salvation

All Have Sinned
Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

There Is A Payment For Sin
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death;

But Wait , There Is Good News!
Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

I Know I Am Lost ! How Can I Be Saved ?
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Romans 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
If God is dealing with your heart, pray this pray aloud: God I am a sinner. I ask you to forgive me of my sin. I believe in my heart and confess with my lips that on the third day you raised Jesus from the dead. Come into my heart Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I surrender my life to you and will live according to the scriptures. In the name of JESUS I pray, AMEN

    Angels Book Review

    Posted in Book Reviews

    Angels

    by Dr. David Jeremiah

This book was provided for review by the WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group.

    http://www.randomhouse.com/catalog/display.pperl?isbn=9781601422699&ref=externallink_mlt_Angels_sec_1208_01

    Summary:

What are angels? What is their role in God’s plan? Are they present? Do they appear? Do they give us personal insight about our work, our worship?

Many contemporary beliefs about angels are based on misconception and myth. Dr. David Jeremiah uses scripture to unveil the remarkable truth about these agents of heaven, and their role and work in our world—and lives.

More than 60,000 units of this powerful book have sold in two past editions. This repackage of the original 1996 paperback will surely capture the attention of readers of all ages who seek a broad and thorough survey of scripture that clearly separates fact from fiction as it relates to angels. The book will appeal to the thousands who follow Dr. Jeremiah’s books, and radio and TV broadcasts.

Relevant, little known biblical facts help readers sharpen their knowledge and sensitivities toward the spiritual reality of angels. Dr. Jeremiah’s enlightening findings are supported with illustrations and insights from Billy Graham, Corrie ten Boom, C.S. Lewis, and more.

I really enjoyed this book by Dr. David Jeremiah. So many people today do have the wrong ideas about angels and their position in God’s Creation. Dr. Jeremiah uses Scripture to lay out the truth about angels. They are a creation of God. They are His messengers and His warriors. They are not lovely ladies in glittering dresses or chubby babies in diapers. So if you are looking for information letting you know what angels really are and what they really do this book is for you. It is very informative yet easy to read. Blessings! ~ Nikki

We have been lax in our nature study this month but we will catch up. We are enjoying the big birdfeeder Toodles made me for Christmas. He mounted it in front of the front window for us. I love watching the birds. Anyway, hopefully soon I can get online more often. For now I will post as I can and read all your wonderful posts.God Bless and have a great day. Blessings ~ Nikki

DUG DOWN DEEP A Book Review

    Posted in Book Reviews

    Dug Down Deep

    by Joshua Harris

You probably remember him as the I Kissed Dating Goodbye guy, but Joshua Harris isn’t a kid anymore. He’s a husband, father, and senior pastor, and he has a message about the importance of knowing what you believe and why.

    purchase the book online:

    http://waterbrookmultnomah.com/catalog.php?isbn=9781601421517

This was book was provided for review by WaterBrook Multnomah.

    Book:  Dug Down Deep

    Author:  Joshua Harris

    Dates:  January 18-22

    Summary:

What will you build your life on?

With startling transparency, Joshua Harris shares how we can rediscover the relevance and power of Christian truth. This is book shows a young man who rose quickly to success in the Christian evangelical world before he realized his spirituality lacked a foundation—it rested more on tradition and morality than on an informed knowledge of God.

For the indifferent or spiritually numb, Harris's humorous and engaging reflections on Christian beliefs show that orthodoxy isn't just for scholars—it is for anyone who longs to know the living Jesus Christ. As Harris writes, "I've come to learn that theology matters. It matters not because we want to impress people, but because what we know about God shapes the way we think and live. Theology matters because if we get it wrong then our whole life will be wrong."

Whether you are just exploring Christianity or you are a veteran believer finding yourself overly familiar and cold-hearted, Dug Down Deep will help you rediscover the timeless truths of Scripture. As Harris challenges you to root your faith and feelings about God in the person, work, and words of Jesus, he answers questions such as:

What is God like and how does he speak to me?What difference does it make that Jesus was both human and divine? How does Jesus's death on the cross pay for my sins?Who is the Holy Spirit and how does he work in my life?
With grace and wisdom, Harris will inspire you to revel in the truth that has captured his own mind and heart. He will ask you to dig deep into a faith so solid you can build your life on it. He will point you to something to believe in again.

    Cover art:

I loved this book from the very first page. As a matter of fact my daughter and I read it together. She loves it too. So that goes to show you that this book is for Christians of every age. I love how Joshua gets down to the nitty gritty of knowing what you believe.I had so many thought provoking "God" moments while reading this book. My fave was when he was talking about when Jesus asked Peter, "Who do you say I am?". Think about it for a second...who do you say Jesus is? Man,  I started getting all these thoughts running through my head like, Who do I say Jesus is with my life? I call Him Lord with my lips but is that what my life says? If you are looking for a great read that will have you rethinking some details that you thought didn't matter; then this book is for you. You should buy it ... like right now... I'm serious... its great!

    The Male Factor Book Review

    Posted in Book Reviews

Hey Everyone, Long time no blogging :) We had the power cord to the laptop to die, some flu (eewwww) and a lot of snow that can you believe it... IS STILL HANGING AROUND! 5o degree weather yesterday and today and still there is snow and ice at our house. So I have not had the chance to get on here and blog since I didnt get to the library; and I even missed a book review. I almost missed this one too. But anyway here I am and here is the review.

    Summary:

Many talented women today risk undermining their careers without realizing it, simply because they don’t understand how they are perceived by their male colleagues and customers.
In What Men really Think, best-selling author Shaunti Feldhahn reveals the inner reality behind men’s views — the unspoken expectations that no man would dare to publicly acknowledge, and no woman would learn from an HR department. These revelations include:

    • Men’s unwritten ‘rules’ of the workplace
    • How men perceive workplace emotion
    • What common situations with female colleagues most frustrate men-- and why
    • Why revealing clothing can sabotage a woman’s effectiveness
    • Why some men think flextime is fine, but equal compensation for it is not

This book was provided for review by the WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group.

Okay , if you ever wondered why women face things in the workplace that make you want to pull your hair out; then you should read this book. Did you know that the way a woman dresses in the workplace can affect how a man reacts to her as a professional? Some men see womens work clothes as a camouflage. They think that women purposely try to avert coworkers attention to their physical attributes to attempt to cover up professional faults. Also the way a woman constructs her sentences can be taken the wrong way. Of course I'm sure not all male coworkers feel the same way but still this book is a handy one for your shelf if you are a female working professional. There is some great information to help you whether you are already in the workplace or are planning to enter it soon. Lots of great stuff to take into account.

    You can buy it here:

Beautiful Mess Diamond Rio Book Review

    Posted in Book Reviews

    Beautiful Mess

First off let me say that back in the “day” I was a huge Diamond Rio fan. As a matter of fact I told my DH when we started dating that if Diamond Rio ever came to Knoxville in concert that he had to take me. Not long after that we were able to see them at one of the Knoxville stations Listener Appreciation shows. They sounded just as great in person as on cd. Their song, “I Know How The River Feels” was the song I walked down the aisle to. Needless to say over the years my musical interests have leaned more toward Southern Gospel and Contemporary Gospel. Yet I was excited when I signed up with Thomas Nelson Publishers to do book reviews that Diamond Rio’s biography, Beautiful Mess, was one of the books available.

I started reading the book as soon as I got it from the mail. Honestly, I found it hard to put down. I was amazed at the lives of these great guys. Most of them come from Christian backgrounds and have returned to those roots so to speak. I loved reading about the closeness they share as a band and “family”. From their lowest depths to their highest moments, the guys share their life stories with honesty. You see the good, bad and the ugly. Yet through all the struggles they still found that God is God and He has a plan. I really enjoyed this book and I’m sure you will too. Check it out here:http://www.thomasnelson.com/consumer/

40 Loaves Blog Tour And Giveaway

    Posted in Book Reviews

40 Loaves Breaking Bread With Our Father Each Day By C.D. Baker

“Why don’t I have more faith?”
“Why am I so bored with Jesus?”
“Why are Christians so hard for me to like?”

There are many questions we’re not supposed to ask when playing by the religious rules. It makes people uncomfortable. So why is it that Jesus invited questions and even asked some of them himself? What is it that you’re afraid to ask God? It’s a risky prospect to begin asking–but far riskier to continue simply trying to get by without knowing. Author C. D. Baker asked himself 40 soul-searching questions which started a conversation in his heart and ultimately showed him more about God than He ever expected.
Can we become more honest with who we really are and find who God says He really is at the same time? Come indulge yourself in daily readings with an honest exploration of your secret fears and thoughts, and know that you will always be welcomed in God’s unconditional love.

40 Loaves is a very nice daily devotional book. In each chapter, C. D. Baker asks some real eye opening questions. I enjoyed the way he included little stories and insights from his own life. I like when authors of devotional writings bring something of their “self” into the mix. Mr. Baker is openly honest about his own spiritual shortcomings and that is what makes this book so wonderful. These are questions he has asked himself before and was sometimes surprised by the answers. The one downside for me was that the Scripture in the book was not KJV. That is my personally preferred translation but it is hard to find many publications these days that use it. Be that as it may, I’m sure you will enjoy this great (hardback) book so I am going to give you a chance to win a copy. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post, please be sure to leave your email address in your comment so that I may contact you if you win. To earn two extra chances to win; post about this giveaway on your blog and share the link in your comment. All total you could get your name in the “pot” three times. This giveaway will end on Saturday December 19th. I will draw for the winner on the 20th and will post their name on the blog plus send out an email to let them know they won. You can also buy this book at this link: RandomHouse.com

In tough times discover…99 Ways (times six) to thrive!

Colorado Springs, CO The Waterbrook Multnomah Publishing Group introduces 99times six…practical and up-to-date ways to help families flourish despite present economic challenges, priced at just $5.99 per book (WaterBrook Press, July 21, 2009). These books are not only timely, but also inexpensive enough to fit into everyone’s tightening budget.

    • 99 Ways to Increase Your Income (ISBN-13:978-0-307-45839-1)
by Frank Martin, successful entrepreneur and author of over sixteen books.

I got to review 99 Ways to Increase Your Income by Frank Martin. This book has some wonderfully easy tips on how to raise your income and stretch the cash you already have. Each chapter is filled with ideas that are simple yet effective. Some of these ideas utilize websites that we already enjoy like Ebay and Craigslist. I know in this economy many of us can use some new ideas on earning more money or stretching our dollar. I have gleaned lots of ideas from this great book that I plan on using to help our family. I highly recommend buying this book. It would also make a great gift for a friend or loved one.

Don’t Let Relationships Suffer Because of the Economy

Colorado Springs, CO— Just because the economy is suffering doesn’t mean relationships have to suffer, too. The Value Non-Fiction Line (September 15, 2009) offers insightful books on love, marriage, relationships and personal growth. At just $6.99, WaterBrook Press is offering readers on the most limited budgets, valuable resources to help them grow and succeed in their personal lives. Titles include:

    More Than A Match
(ISBN: 978-1-4000-7489-1) by relationship experts, Michael & Amy Smalley, marriage and family counselors who demystify the science behind compatibility tests to help singles in search of love recognize when the right relationship comes along. They also reveal the specific skills that can transform an ideal match into a lasting love.
I got to review More Than A Match by Michael and Amy Smalley

This is a great book for engaged Christian (and non Christian) couples. The Smalleys walk you step by step through the dating and engagement process. They cover issues from making sure you are compatible enough to date each other to handling conflicts and on through to the first night together as man and wife. They cover these issues with their own personal insight and lots of humor. Do be advised though that they do cover the subject of s*x. Even this subject is covered with Christian insight though so no worries. I think this book would make a good gift for engaged couples.

Oaks And Acorns Outdoor Hour Autumn Challenge

This is our first post for the Autumn Challenge hosted by the Outdoor Hour at the Handbook of Nature blog. We don’t have the Handbook of Nature book since we had to downgrade back to dialup until Toodles gets another job; we are using some great resource books we bought at our library book sale. The ABC’s of Nature and North American Wildlife, both by Readers Digest. All information in these posts comes from one or both of these books unless otherwise stated.

    Oaks And Acorns

Oaks are the most wide spread broadleaf tree in North America. They also have the largest number of species; 58 trees and 10 shrubs; and occupy the greatest variety of habitats. The leaves on a single oak tree can come in many shapes. Oak trees can also hybridize making identification more complex.

There are two groups of oaks; red and white. Red oaks have tiny bristles on the tips of the leaves and/or lobes. Red oak trees have bitter acorns that take two years to mature and do not fall off the tree during winter. The acorn caps are lined with woolly hairs. White oak trees have rounded lobes without bristles. White oak tree acorns are sweet and mature in six months. The acorns fall off the tree in winter.

Individual species of oak trees can identified by leaf shape and sometimes leaf color. Many birds and mammals eat the acorns of oak trees. These include squirrels, raccoons, deer, bear, turkey, woodpeckers, jays and many more. These animals help spread the oak by storing the acorns and not reclaiming them. Sprouting acorns will grow full sized leaves and unusually long roots.

We have a red oak tree in our yard. We identified it by the leaf shape and the bristles on the end of the lobes.

There are also many other types of oaks in our area. We have identified and English oak leaf but have yet to identify the other oak leaves in this picture.

We have seen some that come close but we hesitate to say they are “that” type of oak. Do any of you in blogland care to see if you can ID them? Blessings! ~ Nikki

    Christmas Tree

Today we bought our Christmas Tree. It is a beautiful Fraser Fir. This is our first real tree in several years. I must say it is kinda nice. Our last real tree was a Douglas Fir and was much more fragrant but they are much more expensive this year :) We also enjoyed our first peppermint milk shake of the season tonight. I'm sure we will enjoy more though. Tomorrow we plan on decorating the tree. I also have to get our post up tomorrow on the Nature Study we are doing as part of the Outdoor Hour. I leave you tonight with a question.
Real tree or fake? If real; which kind is your favorite? Blessings! ~ Nikki

    JR Convention

Hi all! It is a great day in the Lord ! Roosie,Hoopy and I are in Kentucky with our Christian School for Student Convention. Pray for all the competitors today. I miss my DH and BabyGirl and Tman but we head home to Tennessee tomorrow so that makes me happy. I cant seem to get used to time "falling back" this year. For nearly a week now I have been waking up about 4am. Today was no exception. Its only 6:41 am but I am already starting to get sleepy again. No job yet for Toodles but God is being ever faithful. Our needs are met so truly, what else could we ask for? When the right job comes along then Toodles will get it. School has been going great. We are having a really good year so far. We will be doing more special things around the holidays. Stuff like lapbooking or notebooking. We enjoy doing stuff like that. I have not really been able to work much on the free printables I'm making but maybe after convention I can. We have had a hectic pace trying to get ready for that. I'm looking forward to the Homeschool Blog Awards this year. I am eager to see if the blogs I nominated get listed. You are some great bloggers out there :) I may not comment much at times but trust me, I read :) Well I gotta go. We have to get ready for convention. I will update later.

Hey everyone! We are back! Our crew brought home 17 medals today. Hoopy and Roosie both got several first place medals. Hoopy has 5 medals total and Roosie has 7. They all did a tremendous job and I am so proud of them. Well it is late and I am tired so goodnight all! Blessings! ~ Nikki

    I won an award !

Sonia over at Homeschool Treasure Trove gave me this gorgeous Blogger award. Thanks Sonia!

Now I have to tell you six things you might not know about me.

    1. I randomly speak in movies quotes with my family.

    2. I grew up a certified countrified farm girl and I miss it too.

    3. I know what it is like to carry your drinking water from the spring. My maternal Grandparents and Great Grandmother did not have running water (unless you count the current in the spring LOL)

    4. I have met Mrs. Dolly Parton several times. (And yes she is a veeeery distant cousin lol). I even got to watch her film a Christmas movie at a local covered bridge that was 300 feet from my house.

    5. White Christmas is one of my all time fave Christmas movies and has been since my teen years when my cousin Noo and I would get together and watch it each year.

    6. I love walking in the rain. Always have and hopefully always will.

Now I must give this award to six of my blogger buddies.

Finally An Entry And HSB Awards

It has been a while... a lot of things have been going on here. We have been going and going and going, kinda like the energizer bunny ...minus the energy LOL Anyway, we had our Fall festival at church yesterday and had a great time.We raised some money for our youth and ate some great food. Our county sheriff volunteered to be arrested to help us raise money. He was great so thanks Hoss. Last week I went to a Third Day concert with DD,DS and a friend. It was an amazing worship service.. Look forward to seeing them again. Our drama team has been busy practicing. We have two performances coming up and we are very excited. Our local paper came by the festival yesterday and talked to our youth group and took some pictures. They liked that :) We had an amazing service this morning at church. I would love to be there tonight to see all the baptisms (6) but both DDs are down with the sniffles. So at least I have found the chance to sit and blog. School has been going great. This past week we gathered some leaves. The color has been amazing here again this year. I have found that I prefer laminating the leaves instead of ironing them with the wax paper. When you laminate them you can hang them up on windows and get a stained glass effect. It is very pretty. It is also time for the Homeschool Blog Awards again. I have to do my nominations tonight. There are so many great ones out there that it is hard to decide. On the other hand if anyone would like to nominate me (shameless begging I know!) that would be nice. Not sure what I could be nominated for ..but I have to at least be good for a laugh every now and then . Right? Anyway, looking forward to getting settled back into the quiet side of life for a bit and hopefully doing some blogging and getting some free stuff uploaded to HSlaunch. Blessings! ~ Nikki

Here is my poem for the 2009 Autumn Poetry Party. You are invited too! Check out the rules at the top of my blog. Blessings! ~ Nikki
    Autumn
    Azure sky and golden leaves
    Woodsmoke wafting on the breeze
The crunch of leaves on the forest floor
As squirrels add to their winter stores
Shades of orange in the pumpkin patch
    The scarecrow smiles and waves
He loves dancing in the wind
    On lovely Autumn days
    Fall is here
    Its all around
    Sings nature as dances
In her gold and crimson gown
