Memory Verse
And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
(Genesis 2:20-23 KJV)
Introduction: Does She or Doesn’t She (Clairol Shampoo)The world sees Christianity as a male dominant religion. It’s seen as a religion dominated by men, for men. But we know that God loves women - God created woman, and has used women to bring about His plan for the world.
Assignment: Tell the world about your favourite woman in the Bible. Who is she? How did the world judge her? How does God see her? How did God use her? How has this woman affected your life? How does she inspire you to walk out your relationship with God?
I have to say my favorite woman in the Bible is the Woman with the issue of blood. Her faith astounds me sometimes. She was so sure that if she could just touch the hem of His garment (Tzit-tzit - fringe of His Tallit) she would be healed. But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings;(Malachi 4:2 KJV) I find that we are all like her in one way. She spent all she had to try and be healed and we try to do everything we can first before we ever give God the chance to fix it. The Scripture tells her story much better than I can .
And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.
(Matthew 9:20-22 KJV)
And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched. And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me. And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately. And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.
(Luke 8:43-48 KJV)
I love the depiction of this woman in this painting by Simon Dewey.

Memory verse:
“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” – John 8:32
Introduction:
This is a spin-off of last week as we went searching for what “Hear” means. This is a hunt for the Truth about who we are as believers, how God views us and how we can rest in that Truth.
As before, use any Bible or Bible study tools to help you in your search. Sometimes it can be intimidating to do these kinds of studies. I was a little nervous about the last two assignments. But these assignments can be a way to learn how to do this kind of Bible study. Don’t feel you have to know it all in order to do this. We aren’t Bible professors here, but we are all in need of learning and understanding God’s message to us. God, our Abba, our Daddy, wrote this Book, the Bible, to us! Let’s see what He wants to share with us about all the wealth that is ours as His children.
Assignment: Dig around in the Word and share what you find about any or all of the following:
Who is Jesus Christ? (Yes, the obvious, but dig around, what are some of His names?) What God has given us in Christ, what benefits are ours right now? Because of Christ’s work on the cross on our behalf, what can we count on from Him in our daily lives?
If you need some ideas of where to get started check out these chapters in the New Testament and see where they take you:
John 15, Romans chapters 6, 7 and 8, Galatians chapters 2 and 5, Ephesians, Colossians, 1 Corinthians and 1 Peter are also great. I can’t wait to see what everyone finds!
Happy Digging.
I really liked this assignment because I love the names that are given to Jesus. Every name He is given in the Scriptures defines Him as being a help to every aspect of our lives. Here are just some of my favorites.
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
(Isaiah 9:6 KJV)
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
(John 14:6 KJV)
Thus saith the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the LORD that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee.
(Isaiah 49:7 KJV)
As Christians we have awesome benefits given to us by our Lord. Being under His mercy and grace is benefit enough but here are few of my other favorite "benefits".
No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.
(Isaiah 54:17 KJV)
For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
(Galatians 3:10-14 KJV)
Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
(John 15:15-16 KJV)
Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
(Galatians 4:7 KJV)
And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he: And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.
(Mark 12:28-34 KJV)
Intro: When Jesus starts his response with “Hear O Israel”, he’s referencing back to the Shema - from Deuteronomy 6-4 - Hear O Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is One and Only, Blessed Be his Glorious Sovereign Name for ever and ever. Jesus says this is His greatest commandment. Like.. if you asked your child(ren) to clean a room.. and it wasn’t done.. they responded to you and said.. I heard you. What good is it if they heard you.. but didn’t DO it. So for us to say, we heard God.. but ignored his instructions.. that’s not good enough.
Assignment: What does God mean when he says HEAR.. he says it often.. if we don’t have an auditory reception of His voice. why is he saying HEAR.. what does it mean, what are we losing in translation? The word Shema doesn’t just mean Hear.. like what your ear receives.. it means more. Tell in your assignment what you think Shema means whether it’s active hearing or auditory hearing. I’m very anxious to read your thoughts on this. I hope you will all enjoy doing this assignment, as we are trying to dig deeper into the Word and have a better understanding of what the Bible really is about.
Well first of all I'm glad to be back on board with everyone. I love this assignment! For the last few years we have been using the HolyLand Adventures VBS at our church and of course the Shema is the center of the curriculum. The Shema is based upon Scripture in Deuteronomy 6:4-9
Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
(Deuteronomy 6:4-9 KJV)
Clearly God intends for us to do more than listen to what He is saying . This Scripture is a call to action. Just like when we tell our children to clean their rooms. Its more than just instructions, its an order to be carried out. It is a command to begin action. Christians do way too much "listening" and not enough "doing". There is a big difference between "hearing" and "HEARING".
Sh'ma Yis'ra'eil Adonai Eloheinu Adonai echad.
Hear, Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is One.
And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
(1 John 4:16 KJV)
Intro: Sometime “being all you can be” is a challenge. We are trying to balance being a godly wife, mother, teacher, keeper of the home, and much more. None of us are perfect and we all struggle in our own ways with being able to achieve what we feel needs to get done.
Assignment: This week I thought we could share what great ways we have found to help with all we have to do. Besides the obvious getting face down in front of God, what have you found that works? Have you done a great bible study that deals with this area? Do you have a certain “thing” that really helps you like a planner or gadget? Do you have a certain bible verse that just speaks to you and you have it posted so you see it all the time? Is there a website that is really valuable to you in this area? What do you do that if someone else found out about it, they could benefit from it?
This is a very simple assignment for me to do. I have said this quite often and it seems to really be what is getting us through this "rough" spot this year.
Psalms 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God:
We have truly been able to be still and see Him work. Since Toodles has been layed off God has supplied for us by giving Toodles little side jobs to make a little extra . This verse has also helped me during the stressful times I have faced as a wife and mother. Planning and orginazation are great and I too often get great help from multiple resources but I am thankful that I know my greatest resource is God. Blessings! ~ Nikki
Memory Verse:Intro: This week we continue with shaking things up a bit. Children are often so pure in what they say. There is no sugar coating it, they just say it as they see it. Their thoughts can make us laugh, touch our hearts and open our eyes.
Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
(Psalms 127:3 KJV)
Assignment: This week are going to do an “Interview With Mom” and post it to your blog. There are a list of questions below to interview your children with. And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.
Intro: This week the other Teachers and I want to shake things up a bit! We wanted for everyone to have some fun and have an assignment that would be easy and enjoyable too. This is a creative blogging assignment but hopefully it will offer help to some newer bloggers still trying to learn “how” to add pictures to their blogs and also help learn your classmates names to easily identify them…and it’s just FUN!
Assignment: This week you are to use your Blog Name (or your own pen/real name) and create signs. There are two ways to do this and you can do one or both ways.
Here are my banners and signs that I’ve made to share with everyone. I have my two of my favorite verses within the signs! They should be easy to spot! Go to this location and use the Create tab at the top of the page to select All Templates or go to the bottom of the page and on the left choose Banners to make your project. Then follow the directions to copy the code and post it on your blog. Have Fun!!! Warning: This is NOT a christian site!
And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days.
(Genesis 7:24 KJV)
Introduction: The only witnesses to the Flood are Noah, his wife, his three sons and their wives - 8 people. And then there’s the animals, 2 of every unclean animal and 7 pairs of every clean animal. When Noah and his family emerged from the ark, they offered sacrifices and praised the Lord for preserving them.
Assignment: What kind of catastrophe have you lived through? Weather? Fire? Car crash? Did you feel the oppression of the power of the disaster, or the protection of the Power of the Lord? Tell us the story of how you rejoiced and praised Him through it and after it.
Well the big thing for us lately was Toodles losing his job on December 18. it was completely unexpected. He also did not get his CHRISTmas bonus that we were counting on. It took a long time to get his first unemployment check too. Through it all though we have really been able to see God's provision for us. Our wonderful landlord is working with us on the rent , there is food on our table and our bills are being paid. Check out this post for more. I just want to thank God for everything He has done for us. Blessings! ~ Nikki
Memory Verse: Ecclesiastes 3: 1, 2 - To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven; A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted. Intro: My Prayer Box is a unique personal declaration of faith. It’s a place for our family to lock our worries, wishes, desires and prayers–even keepsakes or photos of loved ones. It’s about gathering thoughts and prayers that allow us to pursue dreams and to recognize that we are never truly alone. My Prayer Box represents faith, which is a force that allows us to believe in things—things you can’t hold in your hand, but can always feel in your heart. Here is a post about prayer boxes and how to get started using them, it’s not too late since it’s early in the year.
Assignment: Tell about your prayer box, if your family has one that you peruse at New Year’s Eve or New year’s Day and share those prayers, thoughts and acts of faith on the next year.
We don't have a Prayer Box at home although we do have one at our church. It is a neat idea that we may incorporate into our family though. Right now I tend to place prayers into my journal. I like to look back at them and see how God has answered them. Writing has always been one of my joys and it is so relaxing too. Blessings! ~ Nikki
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
(1 Corinthians 10:13 KJV)
Introduction: Betcha’ Can’t Eat Just One (Lays Potato Chips)
This weeks topic deals with eating potato chips and how good they are. I love salty foods so I have a terrible time eating just one. Along with these chips that I can’t eat just one of, I cannot get enough of studying my Bible. I think it’s ironic that chips (salty foods) are such a temptation. In the Bible (Leviticus) it tells us that salt is regarded as a disinfectant and when babies were born the midwife covered the baby with salt to clean its body and also to ward away any evil spirits or demons.
Assignment: Tell us about something that you can’t get enough of and what scripture(s) in the Bible you cannot tear yourself away from. Just to be safe, please copy and paste your post link (ex: http://kingskreation.net/archives/303) in the comments section.
Wow! I am so late getting this assignment done but the reasoning behind it is for another post. I'm just grateful to be able to get this one done before tomorrow. One thing that I couldn't get enough of (until they stopped making them *sigh*) was the Chicago Loaded Baked Potatoe chips by Lays. They were awesome and we were HOOKED! We had everybody munching on those things. My favorite Scriptures that I can't get enough of is of course Psalms. I think I have said that before but they are so comforting and uplifting. I think the following verse says it better than I can. Blessings ! ~ Nikki
How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
(Matthew 14:19 KJV)
Intro: Finger Lickin’ Good - You can read about Christ feeding the 5,000 in many places in the Bible (Matthew14:19;15:36; Luke 5:6;9:3-17). I am a fairly new Christian and one of the many things I love about reading the accounts of Jesus’ miracles, is that there was not a big drum roll, fireworks, a thousand dollar suit or an agent building up some big preview of what was about to happen. Jesus would calmly say things such as “have faith”, “believe”, “have them sit and pass out these loaves of bread”, and then the miracles began.
Assignment: Although I am not able to produce miracles, it sometimes feels like I need to when it comes to meal time. There are times when money is tight, groceries are few and I have to feed my family. During the holiday season, you might have so much going on that you need to make a meal quickly with as few ingredients as possible. This week post your favorite recipes that require six (6) ingredients or less. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
This year has been an extremely tight year for grocery $. We have been buying as little as we can get away with.Feeding a family of six on few groceries can be a challenge for sure. One of our favorite meals is what we call taco casserole. It's quick, cheap ,tastes great and can even be made from leftovers. Usually we do make this from leftovers. I will buy between 3 - 5 lbs of ground beef, one pack of Taco Bell hard shell taco dinner fixins, one pack of Taco Bell soft taco dinner fixins, extra taco seasoning packets, cheese and nacho flavored chips. We just prefer the flavor the Taco Bell seasoning has but you can use whatever brand you prefer. The TB dinner fixins are only $1.88 at WallyWorld and they come with seasoning and salsa packets. We buy extra packets of seasoning because you need one pack for each pound of meat.It costs about $.57. So , with these fixins we actually have two meals. After the leftover taco meat has rested in the fridge for a day or so and soaked up all the seasonings it has an extra layer of flavor and tastes great. Here is how we fix our casserole (but you could add as many items as you want).
Crumble up nacho flavored chips and use them to make a "crust" in the bottom of a baking dish. Pour in the prepared taco meat (just follow the instructions on the seasoning packets) and spread it around on the crust. Add a layer of salsa and then add a layer of shredded mild cheddar cheese. Repeat these layers if you like.
Last year at Christmas we had tacos at my inlaws for dinner. It was a nice break from tons of turkey that we would all be having at other dinners during the Holidays.
Here is the price break down for these two meals: tacos and taco casserole later in the week
Meat (5lbs) $8.97
Taco dinner fixins (hard) $1.88
Taco dinner fixins (soft) $1.88
extra seasoning 3 packets at $.57 - 1.71
block of mild cheddar cheese - $2.00
naco cheese flavored chips $1.97
total = $18.41
I figure thats not bad for two meals for six people.
Here is a cheap and quick fix chicken meal.
Chicken Tacos
This is a super fast and easy recipe . It uses the canned chicken (like tuna) that is precooked or you can use leftover chicken breast from a previous meal , just chop it up in the food processor .
2 - 12oz. Cans of chicken (or the largest size your store carries) or leftover chicken breast that has been roughly chopped
2 cloves of garlic - minced
1 green bell pepper (use whatever color you prefer) - sliced
1 small onion - sliced
1 container of sliced mushrooms ( I use the blue container you get in the produce aisle) (or use canned)
1 small jar of sliced green olives - drained
2 tbs extra virgin olive oil
Package of small flour tortillas
Salt
Pepper
Drain the chicken well . In a large preheated skillet add 2 tbs of extra virgin olive oil . Add chicken , garlic , peppers , onions , mushrooms and olives . Saute until chicken begins to brown and veggies become soft . Salt and pepper to taste . Remove from heat . Place a spoonful in the center of a small flour tortilla and enjoy . (It may not look like a lot but you will be surprised how far it "stretches" . I just takes a little to fill the tortillas .)
OK, that one uses more than six ingredients but it is still cheap to make. Also with this meal you can add or delete ingredients.
Last but not least are the peppermint milkshakes we have fallen in love with. Yummy!
Mayfield Peppermint stick ice cream $ 3.97 (WW)
Milk $3.99 (Weigles)
whipped cream $2 (Food City)
mini candy canes $1 (Dollar Tree)
Take a large cup (oversized movie theater cup is what I use) and add four large scoops of ice cream. Add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of milk (depends on how thick you want your shake). Take a hand held mixer with only one blade attached and mix. I think this works better than a blender but you can use whichever you prefer. Pour into a cup, top with whipped cream and add a straw and a mini candy cane. Enjoy! We already have milk on hand , and candy canes during the holidays so the only "extra" things we have to get are the whipped cream and ice cream. So for an added $5.99 we can have great milkshakes. They cost us about $15 if we go to McD's.
Here are some picture of the shakes. They didn't turn out so great (the pics) but the shakes were very yummy!
Memory Verse: Romans 10:17 - So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.
Intro: America’s Favorite Dessert J-E-L-L-O - What we read affects what we believe. When we feed the Scriptures in our spirit, faith comes alive and becomes a living force within you.
Assignment: Write about your favorite ‘faith food’. Tell about the books of the Bible that you read that help to build your faith. Nurture the seeds of faith inside you. ex: Acorns become Oak trees. It seems Mr. Linky is messed up again, so please leave your site and post number in the comments so we can access your post. Thank you.
It seems like every time I read I find something new that touches my life in some way. God knows just what we need to be uplifted and encouraged. As a whole I would have to say that Matthew is my favorite book of the Bible with Psalms being second. To me Matthew makes Jesus "come alive" if you know what I mean. It was the first book I read through as a whole several years ago as a new Christian. Psalms to me is like a balm to a battle weary soul. Whenever I feel down and discouraged it seems like God always sends me to Psalms. It is a wonderful book. Psalm 46:10 is my all time favorite verse. "Be still, and know that I am God' The Scripture I would like to share with you today though is all from the Old Testament. These are Scriptures that have really lifted me up and helped me stay focused over the years. The Old Testament is full of such beautiful encouragement and heart mending verses. So here is my list. Blessings! ~ Nikki
But the LORD shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment. And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness. The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee. Sing praises to the LORD, which dwelleth in Zion: declare among the people his doings. When he maketh inquisition for blood, he remembereth them: he forgetteth not the cry of the humble. Have mercy upon me, O LORD; consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me, thou that liftest me up from the gates of death: That I may shew forth all thy praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in thy salvation.
(Psalms 9:7-14 KJV)
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness. O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise. For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem. Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
(Psalms 51:1-19 KJV)
Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's. The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed. He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel. The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever. He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust. As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more. But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children; To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.
(Psalms 103:2-18 KJV)
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
(Psalms 139:23-24 KJV)
A Psalm of David. LORD, I cry unto thee: make haste unto me; give ear unto my voice, when I cry unto thee. Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice. Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.
(Psalms 141:1-3 KJV)
Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
(Jeremiah 1:5 KJV)
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
(Joshua 1:9 KJV)
But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.
(1 Samuel 16:7 KJV)
Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
Computers Help People Help People(Marketing credit: IBM)
Intro:
There are many ways computers help us. It is a wonderful way to stay in touch with family far away, "meet" other christian women around the globe, and it can be such a blessing with homeschooling.
Assignment:
Share some of your favorite homeschooling sites. The only "rule" for this assignment is that you have to list at least one "free" site. Many homeschooling families have made the choice to live on very little income to do what they believe is best for their children and I want everyone to be able to benefit from this assignment. If you have other sites that are "paid" sites, feel free to include these also as it might be something someone would really appreciate. If you feel led, share your curriculum choices with us. I always love to learn what is out there that I don’t already know about. Please make sure to include links to the sites you share.
This assignment is a great idea! I love free stuff! We are definetly an eclectic homeschool family. I use free unit studies, notebooking pages and lapbooks from the internet all the time. I have quite a list to share.
My ultimate favorite homeschool "printables" sites are Enchanted Learning. I know it is a pay site but let me tell ya, it was the best $20 I spent for school.Tons of resources! And Currclick. Tons of neat stuff and a freebie every week.
Here is a list I put in an earlier post. It is for Thanksgiving.
I hope this list is a help to someone. Blessings! ~ Nikki
My verse for this week :
(Psalm 84:1-12)
How amiable are thy tabernacles, O LORD of hosts! My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God. Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God. Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah. Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools. They go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appeareth before God. O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer: give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah. Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed. For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
(Philippians 4:8)
Intro:
The passion to sing, the passion to draw, the passion to build, the passion to ride, the passion for reading, the passion for nature… the list is endless. Some children exhibit their passion from day one, others need an experience to spark that passion
Assignment:
Share a field trip/lifestyle learning experience where you really felt you were bringing good things to life for your children, where something came alive for them, or ignited a passion.
We enjoy bringing things to life for our kids by taking them to some of the places that we study. We love to visit Chicamagua Battlefield whenever we are in Chattanooga. Its an awesome place to visit. Especially the weapons museum.Visiting the General Shale Museum in Gray,Tn when they had the Sue exhibit was awesome too. The kids loved the interactive stuff. Getting to sift for fossils was something they enjoyed too. A few weeks back we went hiking to Clingman's Dome and also spent some time hiking on the Appalachian Trail. It was a great time for some nature and history study. I firmly believe that if the kids can get their hands dirty doing it then they can wrap their minds around it. Things "stick" better for us when we can take part in it. Here are some pictures of us in our " hands on" classrooms.
I think that the memory verse for this assignment is perfect so I'm gonna stick with it. Blessings! ~ Nikki
We Bring Good Things To Life. (Marketing credit: GE)
Memory Verse: I Timothy 4:12-13 - Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
Intro:Quality is Job #1 (Ford)
Assignment: My family and I rarely do anything apart from each other. We don’t really have quality time together because all our time is together. We feel like the more special moments are when we have dinner together or when we worship God together. For this assignment, tell how you and your family spend QUALITY time together.
My family relaxes and enjoys quality time together in several ways. For us just having everyone home together is quality time. DH had several side jobs throughout this year and he wasn't home much.We would get to see him for a few hours before bedtime and on Sundays but that was it. Now he is home and we are very grateful for the "down" time.We also enjoy movies or just hanging out in the same room. Some read and others watch tv. I guess our all time favorite way to spend quality time together is camping and road trips. For pictures to go with this post feel free to check out this blog and my picture blog, Over Hill And Under Hill. Most of the pictures on these blogs have been taken on our road trips. Blessings! ~ Nikki
Psalms 133:1 A Song of degrees of David. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith. I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit. (Ecc 1:13-14)
Please listen to the song. Imagine you’re standing before God. There’s no Tomorrow, you can’t go back and finish up what you had planned on getting to sometime in the future. What was that thing that you planned on getting to, that thing that now, you’re standing before God and thinking “I wish I had gotten to that…”
Assignment: We only have today. Should God take you today, have you accomplished everything that you wanted to, needed to. Have you said all the things that needed to be said? Let’s have no regrets, let’s make sure we get to those things, so that when we’re standing before the Lord, the only thing we need to do is to worship him.. and not regret not getting to that thing on our to do list. Stop - go take care of that thing…. then, come tell us what you choose to share. Don’t embarrass yourself or any of your loved ones.
Picture ideas: Be creative, go photograph something that “REPRESENTS” tomorrow. We can’t photograph time.. but we have ways of “showing” time in images.. how do you see “tomorrow”. This might be the only thing you choose to share about if you can’t publicly share what you needed to get done, and that’s alright too. Somethings are just to personal.

Sadly my "undone" list would be very long. Even as a CHRISTian who knows that Glorious Day is soon approaching, I still find myself procrastinating about way too many things. Why do I waste time when I know there is no time to waste? I have family and friends who need to know I love them, even though I say it alot , I can never say it too much. If I have hurt someone with words or deed then I have to stop assuming they know I'm sorry and make sure I tell them that I am. There is a world outside my comfort zone searching for something I have to offer, the way to Jesus. We have the oppurtunity to witness to hundreds a week. Why do we not even witness to one? There are people going hungry and being cold... have I done all I can do? NO! I'm a Preacher's wife and a Preacher's daughter and a Preacher's granddaughter, I work in the Women's Ministry, Sunday School and JR Church but none of that will matter if I'm not fulfilling the law of Christ... "Bear ye one another's burdens" Why do we get so busy in our own lives that we forget to get busy in others? James tells us in simple terms" working faith is living faith" We can say we are CHRISTians but if we are not being Christ like then we don't desrve that title. Christ put others before Himself, He went to those that the world shunned. He healed the broken and diseased. he touched people others wouldn't touch. He sat at the table of sinners to break bread with them so that they might understand what the "bread of life" was. We have so many "great" excuses but God doesn't deal with excuses. Moses tried to give Him plenty when God called Him to go to Egypt but God refuted every one with the simple truth that He is the great I AM, our Creator who endows us with all we need to carry out a job. I need to work as hard outside the church as I do inside the church because that is where the battleground is fellow soldiers... outside the church.I want to be able to hold my head up high when I stand before the One who died for ME. I want to feel worthy when He tells the Father , "this is one of mine". I want Him to be proud to call me his child. I want to be able to deserve the words" Well done my good and faithful servant". I could share many things with you this week about what I need to get done before I meet Him ... but I don't think I could bear to unveil myself to show you my many faults and failures. Just know that they are many my Friends. I'm sure when my works are tried by fire I'll be left with a lot of ashes.Pray for me this week as I work to complete more of the " List". Pray that I will have strength when needed and mercy and grace so that I can share with others what Jesus would have me say (or do).
Blessings! ~ Nikki
Exodus 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM:
And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land. And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD? Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say. (Exodus 4:9-12)
1Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
WE CAN ONLY IMAGINE!
This picture reminds me of two things ... the endless possibilities of tomorrow and the gentle "rolling on" of time thoughout eternity just praising our God.
Memory Verse: Isaiah 40: 1- Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
Intro:“Have It Your Way” (Burger King) - As cooler weather approaches and the winter eases into our doors I like to lounge by the fire after a hot shower. I love to make soups that are brimming with a rich and full flavor. In our home there’s nothing better than a hot bowl of soup or and a hot cup of coffee or cocoa on a cold winter night.
Assignment: Tell us all about how your have “your” relaxing time, more especially how during the cooler months you take time to curl up with your favorite movie, book, Bible study, and what your favorite warm drink would be.
Share a picture of your favorite spot in the house or your favorite warm beverage, your favorite movie or book; possibly even your favorite Bible Study or maybe your women’s Bible group.
Share your favorite scripture and don’t forget the Memory Verse above.
My favorite warm drink is without a doubt ... HOT CHOCOLATE! I love how it warms you up on a cold day. I like to curl up on the loveseat in front of the fireplace in my old comfy clothes and read. Jan Karon and Beverly Lewis are two of my favorite authors. "Mitford" is my favorite place to "visit" during the cold weather months.I also like to relax by watching the birds. I became *addicted* to birdfeeding and watching several years ago. Its strange how watching these lovely creations can make stress melt away. I have feeders all over my yard so I can enjoy watching them from just about anywhere in the house. Looking at the wonderful Fall colors always helps us relax too. We spent Saturday hiking to Clingman's Dome and on the Appalachian Trail. We spent the late afternoon and evening in Cataloochee. The colors are so vibrant this year. (I will post some pictures on my other blog later.)
I don't usually use Bible Studies. Not that I have anything against them, I don't. I have found and used some great ones. Its just I like to pray and just ask God to let me open His Word to what I need to "hear". I believe God always knows what we need before we ever even ask for it and that if we would just be still and listen He could tell us so much. Getting lost in His Word is by all means the best way to relax.
I have several verses I would like to add this week.

Jeremiah 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.
Matthew 11:29
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Matthew 6:8
... for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
Psalms 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God:
A Song of degrees.
(Psalms 132:1-18)
LORD, remember David, and all his afflictions: How he sware unto the LORD, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob; Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed; I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids, Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob. Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah: we found it in the fields of the wood. We will go into his tabernacles: we will worship at his footstool. Arise, O LORD, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength. Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy. For thy servant David's sake turn not away the face of thine anointed. The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne. If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore. For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation. This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it. I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread. I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy. There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed. His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish.
This is Fall color in my yard.
This is my "warm weather" fireplace. Soon there will be real wood burning in it. We have already had to turn the heat on.Winters coming soon.
This isn't the greatest video but I hope you enjoy it. I took it from my living room window.
: Psalms 13:6 KJV
I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.

I am behind on getting this one posted. We have been in Revival this week and it has been awesome! The Church is being revived and people are being saved. Isn't God great!?!
I'm going to post my recipe for pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie filling and apple pie.
Pumpkin Pie Filling
1 medium pie pumpkin
2/3 cup sugar divided
1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tbs pumpkin pie spice (or use your own mix of ginger and nutmeg)
1/8 tsp salt
3 eggs
1 5 oz can of evaporated milk
1/2 cup milk
Wash pumpkin inside and outside. Scoop out the inside of the pumpkin.
Combine sugar, cinnamon, salt and pumpkin pie spice. Sprinkle inside the pumpkin and replace top. Place in a greased (shallow) baking pan. Bake at 325 for 1 1/2 hours or until inside is very tender. Cool and then scoop out pumpkin and puree in a blender. Place 2 cups of the pumpkin puree into a bowl and add the eggs, milk and evaporated milk. Mix until well blended. Pour into pie crust and bake at 375 for 80 minutes or until inserted knife comes out clean.
* I usually pour mine back into the pumpkin shell and bake it that way.It makes a neat presentation. I call it pumpkin custard. If you intend to do it this way be sure not to cut through to the outside of the pumpkin shell when you scoop it out after baking the first time.
Pumpkin Bread
I found this easy recipe on the internet and it is fabulous.
3 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 cup vegetable oil
1 (16-ounce) can pumpkin pureé
3 1/2 cups self-rising flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1 to 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans or walnuts
Combine sugar, eggs, and oil in a large bowl; beat at medium speed of an electric mixer until well blended. Stir in pumpkin pureé. Combine flour and spices; gradually add to pumpkin mixture, beating until blended; stir in pecans. Spoon mixture into 3 greased and floured 1-pound coffee cans or 8 x 4 x 3-inch loaf pans, or 2 9 x 5 x3-inch loaf pans. Bake at 300° for 1 hour and 10 to 20 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in cans or loaf pans for 10 minutes on wire racks. Remove from pans and let cool completely on wire racks.
Makes 2 to 3 loaves of pumpkin pecan bread.
Apple Pie
Peel and cut 3 to 4 apples (any kind). Slice apples and place into a bowl. Add 1 cup sugar and 1 tablespoon cinnamon. Cover with foil and let stand for several hours. Stir occasionally. Once the apples are tender and have released enough liquid place into a pie crust. Bake at 350 for 20 - 30 minutes or until golden brown.
Easy pie crust
2 cups self rising flour
1 tsp salt
2/3 cup shortening
5-7 tbls of ice water
Combine flour and salt . Use a fork to cut in shortening until the flour mixture looks like crumbs. Sprinkle flour mixture with ice water 1 tbsp at a time. Stop adding water when mixture is moist enough to form a ball. divide into two balls and refrigerate until needed. Roll out and trim as desired.
This is a picture of the pumpkin bread my DD made.
This is my apple pie.
All these tasty recipes brought to mind this wonderful verse.
Psalms 119:103

Don’t Leave Home Without It! (Marketing Credit: American Express)
Memory Verse:Matthew 28: 20 - Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the world. Amen.
Intro: Never Leave Home Without It (Marketing Credit: American Express) Diapers, bottles, wipes, bibs, pacifiers, extra clothing, cell phone, PDA, ipod, iphone, credit or debit cards … what would you never leave home without?
Assignment: In the memory verse Jesus tells us that He will never leave us, not even at the end of the world. He assures us in this verse that He will be with us and that means through everything we go through in life. I thought it would be interesting to write about the things we would never leave home without. For some it might be baby needs, others it might be a gym bag and bottle of water, and for some it might be your Bible and a notepad or small journal, maybe even your son or daughters favorite blankie! I’d like for you to write about something that you would never leave home without.
Picture Ideas: planner, books you read, address book, purse, keys, gym bag, water bottles, baby or children things, notepad/Journal, Bible.

I don't like to leave home without...
Prayer
I like to pray before we leave the house.I like to ask God to watch over us as we travel. It doesn't matter if we are going 1 mile or 100 miles. Prayer seems to make the trip more enjoyable. We are supposed to pray about everything right?
Bible
I keep a small Bible in my purse. I like to have it to read while sitting in Dr. offices or while waiting in the car for my hubby. Keeping a Bible with you also assures you are able to show Scripture to people you are witnessing to. Lost people don't always wait outside the church doors. They can be sitting beside you in the Dr.'s office or behind you in the checkout line.
Camera
I love my camera my hubby and children bought for me. I keep it in my purse 98% of the time. You never know when you will see something awesome and want to capture it on camera. Our God is an awesome Creator and artist. I love to be driving down the road and see a field of wildflowers in bloom. I love it more to be able to capture it with my camera and use it as wallpaper on my desktop :)
I guess for this post I would have to say that Psalm 104 is my favorite. Yes , the whole thing :) Out of the whole chapter though, this verse really sums it up.
O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.
(Psalm 104:24)
These are some pictures I got because I had my camera with me. The beautiful skies are due to hurricane Ike and the hummer pics were taken at my Momma & Daddy's.

Wow we are wacky all the time! We are serious about our school work but it makes the day better for everyone if you can add some humor into it. Let me tell you, we have plenty of comedians around our house.Whether its Tman cracking off his “DIY at home product” infomercials (don't ask, you don't want to know) or our talented duo , Hoopy and Roosie, who have amazing mimic abilities. They can imitate other peoples voices(they love doing movies scenes)and Hoopy can even imitate an aerosol can. No lie! He used to love to spray air freshner when he was little and I was constantly telling him to stop. Well he just learned to make that “spray” sound to amuse himself. I of course was always yelling ‘leave that can alone!‘and everyone was laughing at me because I didn't know Hoopy could do that. Now I do and he still fools me sometimes. There is also the on going war between BabyGirl and yours truly to see who can best who at movie quotes throughout the day.Its a game the whole family plays but BabyGirl and I made it ‘personal‘I usually get her with “the children love the books” (from ELF)because at some point every day someone mentions books. (We love to read.)If all that isn't weird and wacky enough for you ... We love to do our school work sitting by the fireplace with a cozy fire going. Nothing wacky about that except its not cold enough for a fire til about late November so we use electric fire logs to get the same effect.(Yes even in the summertime). There are tons more wacky things we do but this blog can only hold so much :). Have a great day! ~ Blessings! ~ Nikki
By the way Hoopy ... HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!! LOVE YOU !!! ... LEAVE THAT CAN ALONE! :)
Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.

Intro:It keeps going, and going, and going…. (Marketing credit: Energizer)
Housekeeping: that household mess, it keeps going and going and going. It’s a perpetual chore that we diligently need to keep going on to stay on top it. We all have different ways of keeping ourselves energized.
Assignment:
How do you keep energized so you can get it all done? bouncy music? treat it like a workout? Do you use a schedule?, a housekeeping binder system? luck of the draw system?.. or is this an area where you need encouragement? Do you need God’s help to keep order and beauty in your dwelling place? Take this week to tell us how You diligently keep going with your housekeeping chores.
Picture ideas: Show us some before and after pictures of a space you’ve been working on /show us your favourite tools / share a youtube of your favourite housekeeping music that keeps you energized
Share your favorite scripture in your post.
I enjoy listening to music while cleaning , especially if it is a heavy duty cleaning. Our summer cleaning schedule is different than our "school" version. During the summer I clean the kitchen and the kids clean the living room. It is a chore that we do every morning. Our goal is to keep the house company ready. Of course now that school is in session we needed a more detailed chore chart to get all the details covered that can pile up.Here is a list of our chores. These are every day chores. Of course we have the deep cleaning day on Fridays where we clean our rooms and stuff like that. The kids and I rotate these chores everyday.
Dining Room Chore
Clean dining room table. Put away clutter. Sweep wooden floor in dining room and kitchen floor.
Vacuuming Duty
Vacuum carpets in the living room and dining room. Sweep crumbs off coffee table in the living room so they can be vacuumed.("crumbs" seem to accumulate here throughout the day as the kids snack.)
Dish Duty
Check living room for dirty dishes. Unload dishwasher and put clean dishes in their proper place. Load dirty dishes into dishwasher and start. Wipe down kitchen counters.
Sweeping Duty
Sweep all wooden floors in the living room and hallway. Sweep the bathroom too.
Dusting Duty
Spray feather duster with furniture polish and clean lamps, bookshelves, fireplace and top of t.v. Dust wooden furniture with dust cloth and furniture polish.
I also find that allotting at least 5 minutes each day in each room helps keep things clean and decluttered. Spending 5 minutes in the bathroom after you brush your teeth in the morning can get the tub sprayed and cleaned and the toilets and counters too.
Picking up things as you walk through a room helps too.
Proverbs 31:27
She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
I have found that some days I have a lot of idle time. I want to budget my time more efficiently so I can get more things accomplished. I want to get back to work on my handstitched quilt and do more baking and stuff.
