Dancin' to my own Beat

• Oct. 21, 2009

Hiya! Guess what? We're goin' to Calcutta -sorry if I botched up the spelling- on Friday! It's gonna be interesting, even though we're bringing our school books and will be inside the room a lot ect...it'll still be interesting.

Almost no one gets the chance to travel as much as we -us kids- have. Not many kids have even stepped out of their own country! Sure, it might've been nice for it to have been that way. But, man, would I have missed out.

I know this seems ungrateful, but I would love to travel around the world someday. Even though it might seem like I've been everywhere already. Like: America, Singapore, India, England & Malaysia.

The world is just too big to miss out on. Trust me.

The Indian Life

I haven't written for a while now so there's lots of stuff to write about now! Hmm.. I'll start with:

Youth Competitions! Mom & dad were gonna be the judges, so of course the 3 of us kids went too. There was singing, dancing, short message (like preaching) and then a Bible quiz. The Bible quiz was really funny! The three C-Kids were the only contestants for teens! Sibling rivalry for good reason. Haha!

Wedding Prayer & Wedding! The prayer thing was interesting. The ceremony was like the other one after prayer and stuff. Tumeric paste, wreath of money (not like the other one), giving of sarees (dowry), and giving of red bangles to the bride. The next day we went to the wedding, which we didn't actually go to. We only went to the reception cause dad had worship practice. So we got there just in time for the starting of the reception.

Choir Practice! Dad will be choir-instructor for the Christmas choir. We've been having the choir practice every sunday after service. We've finished TWO Christmas carols! There are 5-7 I think...so we're doing great!

Last night! Last night we had mom's birthday party...kind of. I baked oatmeal bars, and our guests brought a birthday cake. I'll put the recipe down here for whoever wants to make them. I think I have a photo of them too...

  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups oatmeal
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

    1. Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
    2. Spread the almonds onto a baking sheet; toast until the nuts are golden brown and fragrant, about 5 minutes. Remove nuts from baking sheet, and reserve.
    3. Melt butter in a small saucepan placed over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar; cook, stirring, until sugar has dissolved and mixture is bubbly. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla and oatmeal. Press mixture into an 8 x 8 inch baking pan. Bake in preheated oven until lightly browned and set, about 20 minutes.
    4. Remove from oven, and allow to cool slightly. Sprinkle chocolate chips over surface; let chocolate sit until melted, 2 to 3 minutes. Spread chocolate evenly over oatmeal squares. Sprinkle warm chocolate with toasted almonds. Cut into squares when cool.

PS: i might be putting more recipes and stuff like that cause I've been doing more baking lately.    :)

Well, ours looked a bit diffrent cause our almond were more crushed up than that. But trust me, it looks great AND tastes great!!!

    Keyboard!!!

Dad just recently got me kayboard. I'm so glad!!! I've been DYING to get my hands on a keyboard. I really enjoy playing the keyboard, so I'm completly ecstatic my dad got it.

Guess what? Tonight (super duper late) there's gonna be a RL team coming to India!!! RL is short for my churches name. They're gonna bring Milo©, kaya, mooncakes and some other stuff! A taste of good old Singapore *sighs happily* They're coming here for a sports camp, and mom & dad are gonna be doing the devotions for it. Since we'll be helping with the worship, we kids are gonna get a one week holiday. And this week is a 1 week holiday for the Singapore school kids!!! XD

    That's all folks!

    India!

Hey hey! Haven't posted forever! Right new we're in India, not for vacation, but to stay for a year. Maybe. We've been here for a month+ so we've gotten pretty used to it.

The first week me, Roboboy & Dad came first, because Bubbles was sick. We hung out with Aunty Y while Dad was out and about getting the house ready ect. The whole of the missions base is pretty big. It has the biggest Christian bookshop in India!

When Bubbles and mom came Bubbles got sick again, and we got stuck in the house for a few more weeks. It was because of an ear infection, and she had cotton put in her ear for the past 1 month. Anyway, after she got better we went out lots, and got to see all the places around where we live. We need to get a dial-a-cab just to go grocery shopping, when in Singapore we could just walk out and take the bus.

It's really fun to see all the different things, and eating all the Indian food. Which I must say is great!!! There's beriyani & curd, tendorii & naan, and all the curries. We all love it! While Roboboy took about 1 hour to finish a plate of rice, now he takes 5 minutes!

Though we're used to lots of things, there's still all kinds of things we still need to figure out and stuff. So yea...

    Doulos

The Doulos is a ship. A missions ship. It is ALSO the oldest ship still sailing, it's even in the Guinness Book of World Records! Cool right? Well, I went on it. For 10 days! It was super, super, super cool!!! It doesn't even look that old! Here's what happened:

Day 1- We went on a high speed train to Gao Xiong, Taiwan. Man, it was cool. Though everyone was super tired from the airplane trip. We met Mr & Mrs. Park, who were from Taiwan. They took us to the Doulos, and we saw the cabin, We slept till the next morning.

Day 2- After breakfast Mr. Park took us on a tour of the Doulos. The Doulos has a clinic, barber shop & CHARLIE! Charlie is a second-hand room. You can just go in and take clothes, hats or something. Of course, within reason. The ship isHUGE!!!! Like mega, super huge! It was super cool.

Day 3- The ship sailed to Hualein. We had a safety training drill, it was so funny to see everyone in their lifejackets! After lunch the sailing got ROUGH! Like, really really really rough. We all had to lie down because it was so rough. At one point I was holding onto the wall because I was on the top bunk and the ship was tossing so badly.

Day 4- We joined the school for the sports day. We ran around, played ball and had lots of fun!!!! Me, Roboboy & Enchel went for art class. I also met Isabella, she's about my age, only 1 month younger. The day was also the official opening of the ship.

Day 5-We went for art class again, and there was open day. There were games, exhibits and super cool stuff. We went to this table and the guy showed us some stuff. The anchor chain, only ONE link is HEAVY. I couldn't even hold it up! The guy lifted it like it was nothing. Afterwards I was like, he is super strong. Turns out he's a deckie, he works with the anchor ands stuff like that all the time. No wonder!

Day 6-We went to a kids club called Salt Co. We played games and man was there screaming, yelling and laughing. LOL!!!!

Day 7- We went to church on the ship. After worship with the adults we went to the childrens service. It was really fun. In the evening we played with Idabella & Monique a card game. Really cool!!!! Totally funny.

Day 8- We went travelling with the Parks. Their 2 children, Ji Yoon & Enchel came too. We went to the Toroko Gorge. It was beautiful! Totally cool! It was "gorgeous" as my dad put it. We took lots of photos. Afterwards we went to Isabella's cabin to watch a movie. Her room was squished with kids. Me & Isabella got stuck in the back of the room cause we were the tallest.

Day 9- We came back to Singapore. Ending the Doulos trip.

    That's it in a nutshell..

    Singapore

I'm gonna write about the culture and just all around Singaporean way. I thought, "The difference between America and Singapore is like the ocean and desert." I mean, here are some examples of what you hear in a Singaporean conversation:

    1. You'll hear hokkien & kantonese (different dialects of chinese) being thrown around the table.

    2. With all the Singapore slang and 'Singlish' I don't know if foreigners can even understand half of what is being said.

    3. Remember when I said we were eating lunch? Well, they were talking about other great places for food. Maybe they also do it in America, but it's different. Knowing great food places are one of the top subjects for a lot of people.

    4. They talked about great places to get durian. Hmmm...some people don't even know what a durian is. The speakers that come to my church -who are american or european- always say they don't know how people can eat it. Considering it smells AWFUL. hahas! While people here will search for the perfect durian place....

So, in conclusion: Singapore is  absolutley, completly and UTTERLY different from any country. Though it's a unique, and kinda odd country, it's definantly a great place. The weather isn't the best, either hot, or rainy. Then it'll be humid, but that only means swimming is totally big here! For the end of this post I'll write:

    SINGAPORE ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Weekend! (lunch with the band)

My weekend...hmmm. I guess it was so-so. Yup. Here's what happened:

Saturday- I went on the bus with Natalie to church. And, here's the thing. We get on different stops! But it's the same bus. Good sync right? Hahas. MegaLife was the normal. Only, I saw Dorathea! And we talked for a while, quite a long time actually. So....cool

Sunday- Walked to church with Natalie. The small group was so cute! We combined with the guys. So we had the protests of, "Oh man! NO! But....why?" My group of girls are used to doing the Connect Questions themselves. So, they weren't used to the way the main teacher did it. I could see they weren't very comfortable about it. But, everything went fine anyway. I'm gonna try to make little, cute origami bookmarks. They're pencils, then I'm gonna write a Bible verse on it! Hope it looks nice...

Lunch with the band was insane. As usual. Everyone laughing, and the guys making all dumb jokes. Suddenly all the guys I know are turning all....scientific. Like, talking about math, and talking chim. (it's a Singapore slang word for complicated) Like, they talk about matter, politics and the education system. It's really weird. I mean, it was BENTON & RYAN! They're the biggest jokers of the whole band! So, it was kinda creepy. But it was fun all the same. Took the bus home, not wanting to get caught in the rain.

    Book Review (Teenage Mermaid)

I only borrowed this book from the library thinking it'd  be cool. It was! It's a great story! Here the down-low on it: Title-Teenage Mermaid, Author-Ellen Schreiber

About: A teenage mermaid who falls in love with a Earthdude (human). They met when Spencer (Earthdude) had been in a surfing accident and he was drowning. In the struggle of trying to save him, Lilly lost her Earthee, antique necklace. Her great-grandfather found it and it was an heirloom! She found a witch, Madame Pearl to turn her into human. So, as Lilly tried to find her Earthdude (Spencer), she also gets to explore the land.

When she finally did find Spencer, they were together for the whole day. By night-time, the potion had worn off, and Lilly had to get back to the ocean. Forgetting all about her necklace! She has to go back and get it. Though this time, she has no plans on returning to ocean after. The rest..well. I'd rather not ruin the ending. It's really GREAT though!

    Weekend! (water -baptism- filled weekend)

Yup, I'm writing about my weekend again. It was hilarious!!! LOL!

Saturday- Went to band practice and had a lot of fun! Though the first song was sooo high and then so low, it's a guy song. *sigh*

Then went to celebrate my cell leader's bday. We were rushing around, tryna get everything ready when suddenly Joan screamed, "OMIGOSH! ISAAC'S COMING UP NOW!!!!" We all ducked and stayed out of sight from the glass panalled doors. One of the guys weren't hidden properly and as Isaac was walking past he burst out laughing. Isaac had looked directly at him! haha! We all jumped up and shouted, "Happy Birthday Isaac!" anyway. Something happened to Joan's computer, and the sound wouldn't go on. There was this really nice video that they were tryna play. In the end it worked and everything was cool. Dad says he wrote the party was great on his facebook. So, yay!!!!!

After MegaLife a whole bunch of us went to go and change into our 'I Have Decided' t-shirts. During the testimonies it was really nice! Sooo sweet! Me, Natalie & Michelle somehow got matched up to go into the water together. The water was freezing, tell you. FREEZING!!!! While walked to the bathroom my teeth were chattering like INSANE! Ever try walking while you're shivering so much you feel your bones rattling? No? You'll find it's almost impossible.

Sunday- Small group was roudy. They simply cannot sit still. Well, they're kids. And kids will be kids  Went to lunch with family. The green curry is AWSOME at Aunty May's new stall!!! LOVE IT!!!! Went to hang with the band at Fish & Co Express© after.

While walked back home it started POURING. It hasn't rained like that in forever! Even though me, Nat her lil sis-Vicki & Nikki were carrying umbrellas we still got soaked. By the time we were at Nat's house my sneakers were soaked. Everytime I took a step, water oozed out *grimaces*. I hung out at Nat's house for a while, just because I would get soaked if I kept walking. I went with her family to dinner at the Airport food court. Me & Nat joked about trading lil sister for a week. Because she thinks my lil sis is cute, while I think her really annoying sometimes. And I find her sister cute, while she finds her really annoying. LOL!!!

    Funny things

Last week was funny. It was the March holiday, one week, but there are 7 days! A lot can happen!!!

There was Cell FunDay. Which didn't really start out so fun. I showed up at church, expecting a noisy, and insane cell. I was met by Daph and Ken. We sat there for about 20 minutes before Joan & Joanne came down to tell us everyone was upstairs -.-'. Then things started to be fun. The games were FUN! Our group was called: The Naughty Arabian Peanuts from Mexico©. Everyone just called us 'The Peanuts' for short. The WAR GAMES were the scary ones. During YOU Camp last year there were bruises from the water balloons! Luckily, it was only 1/10th of the scariness.

Friday was insane too. I went to Sentosa with some of the band. You don't even wanna know what happened. You seriously don't. Let's just say....the guys are SICK SICK SICK people. Ok? Ok. I got splashed, dunked and hit with a frizbee. We played soccer, frizbee and had water fights. It was super FUN!!!!!!!!!
