A day in the life...

Breast cancer!

A new season of my life has just begun.

March 27th, 2006, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.  It is invasive ductal cancer, high grade and I am at stage 2A (so far).  There are other tests that need to be done in order to determine exactly what stage I’m at.  This is an aggressive cancer but I am trusting God for whatever the outcome.

I am not afraid.  I am in investigating mode at this point.  I do not have insurance to cover this and am having to fill out applications for assistance, etc.  One organization, The Rose said that my husband most likely makes too much money for me to get into their program however, I should go ahead and fill out the application anyway.  They were very nice and gave me much information along with a few things like a t-shirt for the Susan B. Koman Foundation, a pillow (for when I am lopsided).  Yes, I will likely choose to have a mastectomy.

I have an appointment with Ben Taub next week to see if I’m eligible to be in THEIR program.

I’ve called MD Anderson to see if there are any clinical trials that I could possibly fit into.

God has given me a peace about this and our four kids are handling it very well.  My mother on the other hand, is more worried than anyone.  J  Yes, it was a shock to hear, but I thought I would be more of a basket case about this.  Nope!  Life continues.

Please comment if you’ve got any words of encouragement.  Prayers are very much appreciated.

I will pray for you every day, that God will bring you healing and that you and your family will find peace through this process. We can never understand fully why God puts trials such as this in our lives, but I trust that He has a purpose for this in your life and the lives of your loved ones. I will also pray that you will be blessed with the assistance you need to take care of your medical bills. God's blessings on you...Please keep us posted!

Mar. 31, 2006 - Keep Fighting

Posted by authorDonna

My mother has been fighting - and winning- a battle with bone cancer for forty years. It took the doctors thirty years to diagnose it properly. She figures that God's not done with her yet but she needed a bit of refining. I'm just proud of her that she keeps on fighting and confounding the doctors and that she gives every ounce of glory to her maker. I'll pray for you that He will give you the same measure of strength he's given my mother. As an aside, she took up horse back riding at age 78 because she'd always wanted to and figured if she fell and broke her neck it wouldn't really matter much. She loves it and I love seeing her glow with happiness. Fight for every special moment you can.

Apr. 20, 2006 - Praying for you

I only had a taste of what you are going through when I found a tumor at Christmas time. Mine ended up being benign, but the Lord did something to my heart then. Maybe it was so I would be more diligent to pray for those who DO have cancer. It was a trialsome time in our lives. I just want you to know I am praying for you!
