Oct. 10, 2005 - Great Example of Homeschooling/Multitasking
Head over to "Mensa Mind in an MTV World" for a great post on teaching multiplication and division on a shopping trip. This single mom has a great handle on how to make the most of teachable moments and redeem the time in the store or the car.

Oct. 10, 2005 - Thanks for Mentioning my blog!
I'm so glad my advice could be helpful. For 3 years I struggled with our local school district before deciding to homeschool my son. I had come to a point in my career(s) when nothing was fulfilling me and I had to have lunch with my son 3-5 times a week so he could make it through the day. We were both miserable and my son's self-esteem was suffering.
My Mother kept needling me to get a better job so I could move away but I knew these problems weren't exclusive to one school district. I attended several home school information sessions and a convention before deciding and my Mother wigged out over it. My Father was very confident in my abilities and has been very supportive. I finally had to tell my Mother that he is my son and it's really not her decision.
My son hasn't been sick or injured in 6 months since we started homeschooling! I also wasn't forced to immunize him further. This is a huge problem in our family because we have all had severe reactions to immunizations. I already notice many benefits from homeschooling and so does everyone who knows my son. Only seeing him a few hours a day and spending that time arguing over homework was not the way I wanted to spend our time together. It also seemed to extinguish his love for learning and that was disturbing.
Bless you for homeschooling with four boys, I know you're busy!
Thanks again and I enjoyed reading your blog.
