Oct. 29, 2005 - Homeschooling as a Single Parent: How You Can Make It Work
Don't miss my article on this topic in the September/October issue of Homeschooling Today.
I tried to blend the reality of the challenges with encouragement and practical suggestions for making it work.

Dear Mary,
I went to our new local library to browse on Monday. I was feeling quite discouraged where I find myself in life---recently divorced, 2 boys whom I've homeschooled 7 years--searching for the answer from God of what paths I need to take to raise these boys and have income. I picked up a couple of copies of Homeschooling Today and sat down to read. Your article was very timely! God seems to be speaking to me the best way to help my children. Thank you so much for having the courage to homeschool as a single parent yourself and to encourage others!

Mary Jo, pretty please could you send me a copy of your article via email? (BiblicalWomanhoodATsbcglobal.net) I would love to have it on file to send to single mothers who are trying to homeschool. I get emails from such moms a lot and I would be so happy to be able to have somewhere to send them!

I'm Andrea, new to HSB, and also a single-mom homeschooler. I'm adding you to my friends list if that's okay. =) Have a happy Thanksgiving!
Nov. 25, 2005 - Home Schooling is a Calling
Posted by Lisa B.
I have home schooled for almost seven years; my children know nothing else. Almost four years ago, my husband left us. At the time, I thought I might have to put my children in school. I could not make sense out of how I would be able to afford to stay home. Additionally, I faced some moderate pressure from those around me, including some in my church family who just followed along with the presumptions that if A happens (separating and a divorce) then you have to do B (go back to work). As I really sought God in prayer, He impressed upon me that home schooling was something He had called me to do. Just because my husband had rejected God's call on him did not necessarily change God's call on me. I also had enough knowledge of God's Word to know that what God calls us to do He equips us to do. So I asked the Lord to provide for us as long as He wanted me to stay home. Here I am three and a half years later still home schooling. Initially God provided my dad who lived with us to be the instrument of provision, but Daddy passed away in March. My children's father is now challenging my decision to continue home schooling. Although I am a little scared of what is to come, it is also exciting to be in a place where I can see God work in ways that I have not the power to make things happen. I still believe God has called me to educate, train, and teach my own children, and so I wait to see how He will provide for us to do it.

Mary Jo, I don't get the magazine, but would love to read your article. Could you by any chance email it to me?
Dec. 9, 2005 - THE LIST & A Question

The question first - is the article in Homeschool Today different from the one that was in Family Reformation?
Second, I'd like to invite you to stop by my blog and see THE LIST I've been putting together of other single moms on HSB and of online resources that I am aware of. If you have any to add let me know.
