Feb. 7, 2006 - Fake Truant Officer

A homeschooling mother and her 8-year-old daughter were accosted in a Maine restaurant by a man who falsely claimed to be a truant officer and who threatened to arrest them.

The mother—who exhibited admirable self-control—simply ignored the man.

Wow, how strange! I would have never suspected someone would endeavor to do such a thing. I guess there really are no 'safe' zones left much anymore. Glad i stopped by, a great eye opener for me.
Thanks for your reply.

I wonder if any men have been approached in this manner. People in general don't seem to get as confrontational with men probably due to their ability to physically state their opinion or suppress those of their detractors.

I have been out during the day with my son and people have asked why he wasn't in school. After a few insane comments when I stated we homeschool, I just tell people he had a Dr. Appt. It's nobody else's business. While I'm certainly not ashamed that we homeschool, I just want to avoid unsolicited comments and criticism. People always have something to say. When my child was in school, teachers were always suggesting I get married so he would have a real family. I would reply that we ARE a real family. There are definite pluses to being a single mom. I can devote more time to my child and therefore have a stronger bond. Having a man around was always a burden since they chose to act like another child. Also, my child isn't exposed to his "Biological Father's" chauvinistic attitudes and womanizing. My child loves and respects me in a way my brothers never respected my Mother due to my Father's sexist comments about women being an inferior gender put on this earth to serve men. People forget that ANY Father is NOT better than a GOOD Father.

Even though I've home educated for eleven years, I still am very cautious. I think as we move closer to being called to our forever home as believers, the devil will become even more aggressive towards families who are raising their children up in the admonition of the Lord, in their home school.
Praise the Lord for His protection, and people like HSLDA to ensure our rights as U.S. citizens, to parent and educate our children in freedom and liberty.
