2009-Mar-4 - Need a High School Art Credit?
Artistic Pursuits is a comprehensive art curriculum that can be used for High School credit...it's soooo good! My daughter carries the book around with her to draw and sketch CONSTANTLY! As a mom credits mean a lot to me when it comes to keeping up the transcript for college, and Artistic Pursuits has credit info in the books and on their website. They are a homeschooling family with loads of art experience and education. We were blessed to receive two volumes from them!
Senior High Book OneThe Elements of Art and Composition 2nd Ed.
Art Instruction PLUS Master Works Featuring European Art

Senior High Book Two~Color and Composition 2nd Ed.
My girl adores it! She is constantly using it as one of the unique features is that it is written to the student. I asked her what her favorite lesson was that she covered, and in Book One it is Unit 7 Contrast and Unity. She told me that her idea of this lesson was that art is like music that on the page, it should be able to be "heard" too...now I am not the artist, but I have seen her working to complete this exercise with random intersecting lines. I asked her to let me show you, and she is too shy about her work, but if you will trust me...she's learning so much and really loving it!
Not only does she love both of these, I love what they are teaching her in art appreciation. I was sold as I read through the books and realized the scope and thoroughness of the materials.
Both are soft bound in a spiral with clear cover over paper in full color. Very beautiful and affordable, both have a content and supplies list right in the front so you will know what supplies are needed to complete each series of activities to accomplish each unit. There's so much to say about each, so let me tell you what you will find inside each book independently!

These supplies are not unusual for a good thorough art curriculum in sketching and drawing. Both my children benefited from art instruction at our homeschool co-op for over four years, and these supplies are necessary to teach proper technique. They can be pricey, but if your student truly loves this medium and takes on the challenges of art into their lives it's a GREAT investment. Overall, it's not much when you consider that the instruction is in the book, the tools are the supplies to complete a wonderful ART experience! Lessons are so much more!!!
Each unit has four components:
Vocabulary~learning what to focus on in words and pictures.
Art Appreciation and Art History~learning to see a topic in the works of the masters and applying it t your student's own work of art, and gain a knowledge of artists and history.
Techniques~learning to use the materials and applying the topic to an original work of your own student.
Application~a final project incorporating new techniques and application of the topic with different objects or subjects.

She is a homeschool mother with a love for art and learning! This is very very comprehensive and easy for your child to accomplish. I absolutelyLOVE
this curriculum~and she's thought of every aspect needed to give a well rounded and in depth art education.
I highly recommend Artistic Pursuits art self study instruction. They carry kindergarten through high school level. Go see their website. There is so much to gain from this company.
My Crew Mates all got different levels for review...
go see what they are saying HERE!
