2009-Mar-11 - High Quality REALISTIC Play~Enhance Your Homeschool Lessons by adding FUN!!

What in the WORLD does this name have to do with the title of this entry?? This is the name of our toy makers, and what fantastic toys they are!

"Ok Sister, What in the world do TOYS have to do with my homeschooling? AND how can they enhance it?"

I have a story to share, actually two in fact!

I want to send you to an earlier post I made called, "The Gator in KY!"HERE  and you can see this post with the picture of our girls working away!  This is a natural learning example that EVEN "bribing" with an ice cream cone wouldn't have gotten this much work out of them!  (Hey, I work with prizes! )

Another example of using toys to enhance our learning was when we used the cowboy and Indian plastic less detailed figures along with some other materials like twigs, sticks, modeling clay and other toys to build an example of a fort similar to what our ancestors might have lived in when there was the westward expansion of the United States.  We kept it available on the coffee table for easy access so the kids could play with it and work on it as I read or they could see it when they were reading, writing or illustrating the events and biographies of the people of the time we were studying.

Anyone else out there a COFFEE TABLE TEACHER?

This use of the hands on really cemented so much more of the information into the minds of my little ones.

I use this method in teaching my church children too.  I like historically realistic accurate figures and toys as much as I can find! I WISH I had known about Schleich way back when mine were littles, but I have young ones that I teach in church.  It's important for loads of reasons to use realistic figures ESPECIALLY in teaching the Bible!  Children think in concrete terms. Fantasy really has little room with the history of the Bible or its Truth as viewed in doctrines.  With this said, I like accuracy! Schleich gives this in their product line.

I am ever more thankful to have been introduced to them now and be able to share them with you.  I think you will agree that their beauty is unusual for a child's toy.  Ha! I am even having trouble thinking about giving mine away to my children, but because of their beauty I want them to sit on my table for ME to look at! OK...I will share! But they are coming back HOME with me! I am going to use them with my littles at church and even to give my hands-on learner son a tangible to hold while he researches. . .

Schleich GETS A DOUBLE THUMBS UP from me!
