2009-May-26 - Adoption~Baby Duck Finds a New Mama
My mama told me a story today that I think is just amazing about a baby duck that wandered on the back porch lost from its family of a friend of hers a few weeks ago. That baby duck was so gentle that he allowed the friend's husband to pick up and pet it, and having pity on the little furry fellow, the man took the little baby to a park some miles down the road to find a new family. This park has many "duck families" of mama and babies this time of year, and his was a hope that the friendly little fellow would find a new family.
In the car and down the road they went, baby duck and man. When they arrived, the man gently let his new friend go and staying a reasonable distance watched to see what would happen. The little duck, bigger than the family of new hatchlings was quickly taken in by the mama duck and allowed to be apart of her group. Following behind her as if he had always belonged, the baby duck went in line behind and intermixed in the other siblings of baby ducks.
The friend has related that her husband goes three times a week to check on his little buddy who is amazingly doing so well! I found this story while so innocent and sweet a nice one to illustrate the kind of love we can have for adopted and foster children. Mama duck is either fostering or has adopted the new member, and he is thriving! As foster-adoption is so close to my heart, I am encouraged that even in the wild, God has given grace to littles who need mamas.
Please note this is a picture from the Golden Iris blog. (I don't have a pic of our little guy.for a precious story about this mama duck and her babies click below. Thanks for such a wonderful story!)

I will be excited to continue to follow little duck's journey as he is accepted and cared for by his new family.
I recently was contacted by two of "my boys" who were adopted elsewhere...the oldest graduating this afternoon. It tugs my heart to know that I am still loved for the short time I was mama and how that God has worked in their lives!
Congrats young man on your graduation~you've made me proud and I know your parents are beaming!
