2009-Jun-12 - Ever FEEL Like Giving Up?
I have.
Sometimes when the kids are fussing and the effort isn't showing its fruit immediately, I want to stop and ship 'em off~outta my hair~away for a day, week, month, year, life-time...Oh, OK..not that extreme! But there are those days when I wonder if I will ever get done teaching, instructing, showing, leading, listening, talking, taking, running. . .Mom's job is never done.
Last night we went with some other church folks to do a community needs survey so our church ministry might better fulfill the needs of the people of our area. My kids, unlike many kids, are dead ringers for showing up at all these events~they are pastor's kids! So while they go, often they don't want to go, or would rather be doing something else. I am ever amazed though at their positive spirits when they see so many of their peers not participating in the things that they do right along side their Dad and I. . .
The community needs survey was a short 6 questions, and each of my kids was paired with a different adult. I was concerned about my son. . .how would he "do?" This was a first for some independence. . .
WOW! I saw such growth.
Ya know? Watching him go along working and visiting the folks, as I was the pick up person in our truck as it was threatening rain, I got to hear, see, watch from a distance. I don't often get that opportunity. So much of the time I am in there slugging it out either with him, for him or against him (yeah, you know what I'm saying with teenage boys!) that I think I may have lost sight of his vast growth over the last few months or so. . .
Are we in the same boat? Are you seeing the growth in your kids? I can see the physical so much easier than I can the spiritual~my budget reflects that as he is eating me out of house and home, and I have to get him new clothes and shoes continually! Seeing the subtle changes in his heart, in a child's heart is so much harder to see.
I am blessed today as the Lord allowed me just a glimpse of His master plan going on in the CONSTRUCTION ZONE of my son's soul!
I can praise Him for this~take some time out and you too will see the Designer's work in your kids. . .it's an awesome sight!
Am I giving up? NOT today! No Way!! And it's just awesome knowing that on those bad days I can REMEMBER that it wasn't that long ago God shared with me some of His workings. . .I just gotta keep on keeping on!
