Summer days

Summer days have come and gone. It seems like it was just yesterday that we went camping. Now our noses are back in the books, fingers back on the keyboard, and eyes glued to the screen. We did have a good one, so good I had no time to blog. My mom came and spent a couple of months with us, the kids always enjoy her visits, and so do I. We went camping at the beginning of May with Perry and the kids. We went to lake Ouachita again, and had a  good time. We  ran into a bunch of other homeschoolers, that was so cool, and some even were members of the church. It was great.  We spent the rest of the month planning Emi and TT's b days. We picked up mom at the end of May. The month of June had Kaitlyn in Shiprock, NM for her first mission trip. We also has Vacation Bible School at the end of the month. We had a great time. We spent a few days going to parks, and water parks.  Also staying in Karate class and trying to make progress. We went camping again, this time with my mom and my sister Jennifer and all her kids. We had a lot of rain but the kids had a great time anyway. It was not cold, it's Arkansas in July, that's never cold. The kids swam in the rain and enjoyed every minute of it. Lali even managed to be the first in the lake with a whopping record of only being at the camp site 10min before she fell in the lake. Kids !!!! We visited Hot Springs on our last full day and toured the bath house. We spent the rest of July just hanging out and trying to keep up with all that laundry from camp. Then mom decided to go ahead go go back to Belgium a little early. She had a few things to take care of there before she left  for Africa again at the end of August. The week after she left was church camp. We went to camp Tahkodah near Batesville, AR. We had 100 kids and 26 adults. We had a great time with them. I had the 14-18 year olds with my friend Stephanie and I couldn't have asked for a better cabin or a better friend to share it with. We had a few devotionals with Jamie and the older boys at the bluff. A 10 min hike up the side of a mountain at night, and I would do it again in a heart beat. Kaitlyn got baptized at  the end of camp, and so did Derek and Rachel. What a great week. You come back really recharged spiritually. The weekend after we got back we had a karate tournament. Kaitlyn brought back a first place and a third place trophy, TT got a 2nd and 3rd, and I got 2 third places. Emi skipped this one. We had a few more fun days in the sun and water and then we had to get school started......

Bisous a tous.

Rainy May

Well it has been raining since last night. As most of you from around here know, if it rains on the first day of May it will rain a lot that month. Some farmer's saying I think. Well I don't know how technical this must be I think it started some yesterday, the 1st, but it sure is pouring down today. It's good for our water table, we need it for our fields. so, on this rainy day the kids are doing their schoolwork and diligently trying to get done with their work because they know that when they are all done, it's summer break. We are all planning on going camping the week of Perry's birthday and the kids can't wait. Me neither. It has been so busy around here that not only have I not had the time to blog, but I am yet again behind on my laundry. I have been working on our church's website too. Trying to keep it updated and also trying to add to it. It sure has taken up a lot of my time. This past week was also our last Monday school CoOp, and I am both sad and relieved. I love being with all the other homeschool moms and kids but it is also just one more thing on our already full schedule. We will meet again at the beginning of September. Emily has a couple of friends she wants to see over the summer because she can't stand to be away from them that long. That's my Emily.
As far as karate goes, we are learning the sword in our weapons class and I am trying to teach the kids the Bo Staff. We hope to put a family demo team together for the summer or the fall. I am also working on my Tai-Chi, and I have not tested yet for my next belt, the 2nd degree brown, but I think I will be ready in a couple of weeks. We'll see. Karate class seem to continuously be interrupted by other things in my schedule lately. We had the Spring Program with CHE this last Thursday and this Tuesday i had book club meeting. The Spring program went well. The kids learned a lot this semester and I was very proud of my 1st-3rd grade French class, they did awesome.
At the risk of sounding repetitive I am going to have to stop here so I can tend to my laundry.
May God keep all of you, especially my friend Michael and all of our servicemen in Iraq and on other foreign soils.

Bisous

April is here !

I love spring. April is one of my favorite months. Not only is my birthday in April but it is the birth month of nature.... Everything here is starting to bloom. My friend Kim has some pretty purple tulips in her front yard right down the street from me. Our azaelias are in bloom too, they are so pretty I wish they would stay in bloom all year !  The irises are coming up and so are my tiger lilies. I am going to do some more planting this year and add a few more perennials to my garden. Emily wants to start a garden too. Looks like a homeschool project in the making.
This past Saturday the family went to a karate tournament. We all had lots of fun. Mommy did not do as well as she wanted but mommy did not practice enough. I was way too nervous for my advanced weapons kata. I placed third and I could have done better. I truly was not prepared early enough. I am going to have to improve on that by the next round of tournaments in the fall. There are a couple of them in November that I have my eye on. One of then is our own instructor's tournament called Battle on the Ridge, the other is from one of the other instructors that attends a lot of the same tournaments we do,  his is called Days of Autumn. Anyway, I did much better in my advanced kata but still took third. My friend Ronnie who was the scorekeeper said the guy in second place only had one tenth of a point more than me. Not bad. I got my butt kicked in sparring, but that is one area I need much improvement in. I have to work on my flexibility. So I found a good website that has a lot of good stretching advice. I am starting now because it takes a while to make any progress. Now the kids did not get as many trophies as they hoped. Only Tristan brought home a second place sparring/kumite. He did so good he almost got first place. He only got beat out by one oint and time was called before he could even out the score. Oddly enough in his first round of sparring they matched him up against his best friend Daniel who attends the same karate school. There were other students from the Paragould school he could have gotten matched up against. He did good in his kata but at this point it is all about the details and I think he was still too sloppy. Kaitlyn did real well in her kata but did not place. Her instructor told her she did really good and I think that it was worth more than a trophy to her. She hates sparring, and so does Emily, so she never does real good at it. She only had an eye on the kata trophy, she couldn't care less about the kumite one. Emily did OK but her instructor changed her form at the last minute and she did not have enough time to be comfortable with it and it showed. She hesitated a lot and in her division there is so much competition that it makes a big difference. We were all worn out by Friday. I am confident they all did well. We will know in the summer when we get the results.
This past Friday our friend Michael Hatley returned to Iraq after a short 2 weeks of leave to visit his family. We were glad to see you Michael and keep you in our prayers. We all love you and support you and your fellow soldiers as you strive to serve our country. We are looking forward to seeing you and all of the 875th back home in 6 months.

Bisous a tous.

More housework

Another busy week at my house ! The theme of the week was plumbing and a really bad cold. Kaitlyn, in all her wisdom decided that  she wanted our shower head closer to her own head, and since she didn't know that one was supposed to unscrew this little knob before one attempted to reposition it, she pulled real hard on it and managed to yank it out of the wall. Half of the threaded part was stuck inside the iron pipe, and we tried everything to get it out. So we ended up calling a plumber who had to cut the pipe in order to get it out. He put it all back together and while he was there I had him take the old drain out of the tub because I could not do it myself and it required a special tool. Also I had him disconnect the old space heater from the bathroom because that thing is old and runs on gas and scares me. He told me it was against the law to have them because they cause so many fires. I told him I was so scared to use it that it hadn't been turned on in years but I hadn't taken it out because I don't feel confident enough to mess with gas lines. With my luck I'd blow the house up. Well, since I had to empty everything out of the office closet, and that's a lot, I figured I might as well replace the bathroom fixtures. I'd been wanting to do that for a while. So we ended up getting some that did not quite match the hole we already had in the wall so we had to do some minor adjustments. All in all it only took about 5 trips to the hardware store and 3 days of work. Of course you have to count that I ended up spending most of Thursday afternoon in bed because I have a bad cold and all my joints and muscles were aching real bad. This is Friday morning and I am feeling better, just in time to go to work tonight ! Oh, and I am behind on my laundry again, is one ever really cought up ?

Bisous a tous.

March is here

Posted in Daily life

Another month has gone by and I have yet to keep this blog up to date. We have done some work around the house. We have pulled the carpet out of the office and my room, and we have repainted the ceiling and the walls in the office. It was way overdue. The kids have been busy with their school work. We are doing science experiments and Kaitlyn made some silly putty with glue and borax. Too cool. She has also been taking an intro to lifeguarding class at CHE and she is still doing ballet with Emily too.  Tristan is still skateboarding and is learning Spanish in addition to the French we are doing at home. Emiy is taking a creative writing class also. Everyone is still doing Karate. Tristan and I are now 3rd degree brown belts and Kaitlyn is a green belt. Emily is stil in the little dragons and is working on getting her green belt.
We are going to the park after a while, as soon as Perry gets home. Yesterday we went swimming. We have been going about once a week and Emily can now swim a lap and back without floaties. They all have been working on their diving skills and they have all improved. Emily can dive to the bottom of the 6 ft end. It's kind of scary.  All in all life has been good.

Sick, Sick, Sick, everyone around here has been sick

Hi everyone

Well it's been like an epidemic around here. It started with my dear old hubby getting flu and achy. He ran fever for 4 days, then Kaitlyn, then Tristan and Emily too. Well Emi did not run a fever but threw up and I felt wiped out Tuesday. I was tired most of the week and had a bit of a sore throat but managed to stay healthy. We are going to work on the office this week. That is going to be an adventure ! Mom is in Africa and I wonder about her and how she is doing. She goes in areas where there is no electronic communication possible. No phones either. Jennifer said she called her this weekend and is supposed to try to reach us this week.
This entry is a short one as it is time for me to go to bed. We had a long weekend at the hospital and I am wiped out ! Rumor is that most stores in Jonesboro ran out of Tylenol and Ibuprofen. we were about out at the hospital too !
May God keep you til next time.

Where did the time go ?

Ok I am now looking at my last post and I realize that it has been a month ....... Well I guess that's the holidays for you. We all had a great Christmas. I got the tree put up and all the decorations down and my dear hubby decided that this would be a good time to take the carpet out of the living room.  We had been talking about it. We have wood floor underneath and they are old and there are spots that will need refinished. So he cut it out but stopped in front of the fire place because he does not want to have to remove it.... So it looks weird for now. He still needs to trim it all the way and get it out of the hallway. Supposedly we are doing that next week. Also we are cleaning out the office. Now that is a mess to contend with.... Anyway, I am starting on the office today and putting things on the "freecycle" , and what doesn't go will go to charity.
Will post again later....

..... Donc a l'attaque.

December is flying by

Ok I am trying really hard to keep my entries up to date but the maintenance they did on this website caused me to not be able to log in for a few days.  Life has been busy and we have had a loaded first 2 weeks of December. So the kids had their Christmas party at church on the 2nd, I had to miss it because I work on Saturday nights but Perry took care of it. They had a blast. They had to call me and tell me all about it. The next day they went to see the Nutcracker for the first time. Emily and Kaitlyn's ballet teacher was performing in it this year so I it was a good year for them to go. The next day they had their Christmas party with the CHE homeschool group and we had the ASU Ringers' Christmas concert to attend. That was great. We do our best to attend every year. It is a family tradition. The next day we had Kaitlyn's birthday party at the skating rink ( More on that later). Thursday we had karate pictures. I'll post them when I get them. I had to take my homeschool and karate friend Tonya's kids with me while she took one of her final exams at ASU. I arrived promptly (for once) at the karate school with all my kids, all her kids, all the uniforms, everybody dressed and shoes on , the baby and his car seat and diaper bag. We managed to get all the pictures shot and everybody had a clean uniform! If you know our kids, you'll know that it's an accomplishment. Usually the boys get dirty because they don't seem to be able to keep off the floor and the girls get dirty playing with the baby (he is about 18 months).  Tonya arrived just in time to get hers taken and we didn't go over on our time. Yeah !  Then I had to rush off to our ladie's ornament exchange party at church and Friday we had our other homeschool group Christmas party.  Then it was back to work for me to find out that my helper decided to quit but didn't tell no one. Great ! The weekend went okay anyway. This week I got to get caught up on laundry and cleaning and still do some shopping... I'll post more later.

A bientot !

Golden years Banquet

Well, as usual, we have been busy and I have not posted anything yet. So to backtrack a little here is some of what we have been up to. The week before Thanksgiving (yes, I know that' s a few weeks ago!) the kids helped me at the Golden Years Banquet. It is an annual event that we host for our seniors. It is a Thanksgiving meal to show appreciation for all the work our seniors have done over the years. In this picture Emily is helping with some  babysitting duties, she was entertaining Elijah. Kaitlyn did too but she helped with a smaller baby named Davis while the moms helped me with all the cleaning and various duties.

Here is a picture of our seniors. We had about 40 of them there. It was great. Everybody loved it and it is such great pleasure to see the smiles on their faces. The love seeing the young ones help out.

Bonjour a tous,

A bientot !

Home and loving it!

Hello to all my friends and family

For my first post I want to thank my friend and homeschool mom Beverly for introducing me to this website.  I have blogged a little on the my space site but adding pictures took too much time and effort.  I hated having to use the FTP and having to remember all the links and so on.  So, as with anything that gets too frustrating I eventually gave it up, making excuses as to why I did not have time to mess with it until it had been months since I last posted anything of value.  I am not sure how much I will be posting but I am aiming at posting weekly. That seems doable.
At the present time Tristan is working on his science lessons on the computer and Kaitlyn and Emily are taking a break and playing Kirby AirRide on the Game Cube.  They have a few more minutes until they have to go back to doing something productive.  Kaitlyn and Tristan are both working on their computers for their schoolwork. We use Alpha Omega's Switched on Schoolhouse. So far I love it.  It is far easier to keep up with. I like the newer version better. Kaitlyn has the older version and it is not as easy to manage.  I will be selling it at the end of this school year and buying the R2 version instead.  Emily is having to do math now and she is not real happy about it.  She thinks it's hard but it is just the only subject she has to think a little about it before she knows the answer.  Everything else comes so easy to her that she seems to object to having to put forth effort to actually learn something a little challenging. Partly it's my fault because I have advanced her so that she is doing work from the end of first grade. But she is now working on her math on my desk, right behind me and I have not heard a question yet.... that will come soon enough! As a matter of fact neither one of the older one have either. I might need to investigate this silence.  I need to put a few loads of laundry in anyway.  Til the next post., have a blessed day.
