An Old Fashioned Girl

May. 29, 2007 - We're Back Home!... Safely

Thank you all for your prayers! I know I said I probably wouldn't post today, but I think I might have enough time for a quick one.

We arrived at our destination quickly and without incident. Britney had to be evaluated by a lady named Mrs. Kay, and the whole drive took about 8 hours! We stopped at a restaurant for lunch and were soon on the road again. I even took a little nap. (and I never take naps unless I'm sick. Really Sick)

Anyway I just thought I'd let you know that we got home safely.

                                Love In Christ,

                                                 ~Skye

May. 28, 2007 - I Won't Be Able To Post Tommorow, possibly...

I probably won't be able to post tommorow. We'll all be very busy, and we're going out. Possibly I'll post on Wendesday, for those of you who are wondering. I will eventually (maybe) give the details.

Please pray for safe travel on the road.

May. 27, 2007 - Important Rules Of Etiquette

I found this, and I liked it so much that I copied it off. I hope you like it!
Mannerisms to be carefully avoided by all.….
• Whispering or pointing in company.
• Omitting to pay proper attention to company when entering or exiting a room.
• Giving attention to only one person when more are present.
• Contradicting parents, friends or strangers.
• Laughing loudly.
• Making noise with hands or feet.
• Swinging arms or making awkward gestures in company or in the street.
• Actions that have the most remote tendency to indelicacy.
• Leaning on the shoulder, or chair of another person.
• Throwing things rather than handing them.
• Crowding or bumping elbows.
• Contempt in looks, words or actions.
• Lolling on a chair.
• Looking earnestly in the face without any apparent cause.
• Surliness of any kind (distortion of countenance, and mimicry
• Ridicule of every kind.
• A constant smile or settled frown.
• Lending a borrowed book.
• Dressing in a bright and loud manner that attracts attention.
• Reading when there is company.
• Reading when others are talking.
• Reading aloud without being asked.
• Laughing at the mistakes of others.
• Speaking or acting in anger.
• To neglect little things if they can affect the comfort of others.

 Manners appropriate for all…
• To govern yourself and be gentle and patient.
• To remember that as valuable as the gift of speech it, silence is often more valuable.
• To speak with a gentle tone of voice.
• Learning to deny yourself and prefer others.
• Giving applause liberally to others, but only by the clapping of hands and never the stamping or kicking of feet.
• To rise to ones feet out of respect for an older person or dignitary.

May. 27, 2007 - Did YOU Eat My Sriplet?!?!

No, not you! But somebody did! Who IS the culprit?

A few minutes ago I got pretty hungry,so I went into the kitchen and served myself some striplets. They are a vegan version of bacon. Then I went to go ask my Mom and Dad something.  When I came back... no striplets. Well, if you read my other post, (about the purse ) you'll know that Michal and Kyle don't enter into the question. My first thought was that one of the dogs had jumped up and eaten them. But they were sleeping on the floor. I must say that I was a little annoyed to find that my younger sister Britney, and my younger brother Elijah both had them. Britney had 2 of them and Elijah had 1. Talk about fairness! They evidently thought that I had made them for their benefit.  Oh, well, I guess I'd better go get some more!

May. 26, 2007 - Put To Sleep

Do any of you remember this picture? I posted it awhile ago. Bad news, she has cancer (our cat).  Dad took her this morning to the vet. I'm crying right now while I'm writing this. She's not coming back to us. The vet called 44 minutes ago to tell us she has to be put to sleep.

Alexis has been here ever since I can remember, she is/was 15 years. Dad went to go say goodbye to her one last time.

Okay, I'm probably going to start crying, thinking so much about her. I'm just going to say that we will always remember her and she will always have a special place in our hearts.

May. 17, 2007 - Ah, Little Brothers!

This evening I took the younger ones outside to play in the yard. (and to look for bugs) To tell you the honest truth, I'm very squeamish with bugs, toads, and lizards. I don't mind the lizards that much, if there at a reasonable distance from me though.

Well, to get back to what I was saying. The little ones began to get a bit tired and hot, so I suggested that they come inside. Micah (4) immediately listened and went inside to get some juice. Elijah who was 2 (uh-oh) wanted to stay out a little longer.

Me: It's time to come in, baby. (he does have a cute little 'baby' face)

Elijah: I'm not a baby anymore!

Me: Well, then Elijah, it's time to come in.

Elijah: OK. (after a little struggle with promises of juice when he comes in)

I tried to pick him up and carry him in.

Elijah: I want to go by myself.

Me: You're taking too long.

Elijah: I'm coming.

With this he proceeds to walk the slowest walk to the door I've ever seen.

Me: Hurry up! (impatiently)

He slowly inches his way to the door, very slowly.

Thinking that he wants to be contrary to everything, I say:

"OK. You can go slow if you want."

He immediately hurries up a little more.

          Ah, Little Brothers!

May. 16, 2007 - Profile Problems

I've been trying to fix up my profile a bit, but... I've been having some problems! Everytime I try to write something for my Profile and get it published, it never comes out on my blog. *Sigh* Has anyone ever had these problems? Do you have any suggestions?

    Vortre,

P.S

Please go over  Melarooski's blog and wish her a congratulations on getting to perform on the piano in a concert! (It's a concert right, Melaine?)

May. 14, 2007 - Who Took My Purse?!?!

Both my Mom and my Dad teach classes in our church. My Mom teaches the 'Cradle Roll' class,(for the babies) while my Dad teaches the early teen class. I go to that class. However, he teaches only for one month, then another teacher teaches the next month, then my Dad. And so on. Well, last week it was Mr. Burgess's turn to teach. He was a little late, and thier were two boys in the class. So while we were waiting for him, I started stetting up the chairs, and things etc, etc. I put my purse down on the piano stool, while I placed a Quarterly on each chair.

Well, I went to the 'Ladies's Restroom' to fix my hair. ( I had forgotten the purse; ) I always carry a small hairbrush in my purse, just in case my hair gets out of control. I then noticed that the purse was gone. I ran to the room. It wasn't there. I went to the 'Restroom' again to double check. Nope! I went to my Mom's classroom, and asked. Guess What? It wasn't there. My purse didn't just contain a hairbrush, some lip-gloss, a hand-mirror, (you know the little make-up mirrors) and my offering! It had my glasses in it too!

By this time the teacher had come, and the class hadn't started so I asked the teachers wife, Mrs. Burgess if she had seen it. She said ''no'' she hadn't.  Then Michal, (one of the boys) spoke up: ''Kyle knows were it is, ask him." By this time exasperated, I asked him. '' Aww, that spoils all the fun. I wanted to make her go nuts looking for it.'' He got up, picked up my purse, which he had hidden behind the closet. Thankfull to have it back, I sat down to ''peacefully'' enjoy the rest of the class.

This story has no actual point to it. Exept to hint, not to leave your belongings anywhere where there are mischievous boys!

                                             Chiao,

May. 9, 2007 - Great News!

I have good news, and bad news. The good news is, that my Dad will be starting a blog! Woo-hoo! The bad news? It is not going to be on HSB.

Mom and I have been trying to get him to start a blog for awhile now. And this morning he coolly announced that he was going to start a blog. We started asking him about the template, his profile, and what color he wants it to be. He said he'll let Mom take care of that. He hasn't decided on the title yet, but he thinks it's going to be something like; At The End Of The Day It Is, What It Is. Or: Everything Under The Sun. We all laughed at that.

Oh, well, I knew this was going to be a short post. So no more at present from:

May. 7, 2007 - Old-Time Elegance Every Day!

This probably sounds more like a commercial or newspaper add, I know. But when I was looking over www.intimelyfashion.com it seems unlikely that anyone would prefer skin-tight jeans with  T-shirts, to long, softly flowing, modest skirts and embroidered blouses. Of course this is just my opinion. If you have time, I have copied some beautifull pictures from www.sensibility.com  and the above

website. They are from the movies: Pride And Prejudice, Anne Of Green Gables, Anne Of Avonlea, and Emma.

Emma  Why isn't her back showing? And why aren't her jeans fairly pinching her waist? Or her top open? And why isn't her belly-button showing? This post is mainly to ephasize how modestly people dressed back then.

The pictures are small, so click to enlarge.

May. 6, 2007 - The Pool

The pool was great! My Dad invited a pastor, his wife, and thier 2 kids over. The kids are 7 and 3. They came to the pool too, so thier were quite a few of us. We ordered Pizza when we got home, (not that long ago) and just finished eating, a few minutes ago. We've enjoyed fellow-shipping very much.

It just occured to me to go into the kitchen and serve myself a big bowl of ice-cream. Should I? Mmmmm!

Anyway, I just thought you'd like to hear from me again, and I'm ever your,

May. 4, 2007 - A Maiden's Warfare

A Maiden's Warfare

by Carol A. DeLadurantey

Press on to heights of glor now,

And keep though steady eye.

One must not falter in this fight,

Though some may flee or fly.

Take hold the charge though hast been given,

To battle we must go.

But not with our own maiden hands

Do we take up shield or bow.

We wage this war in words and actions,

With our every deed.

We follow Christ our captain,

Thro' him we will succeed.

Tell me now have we forgot

The charge from God above

To keep our hearts in purity, grace,

Modesty, truth and love.

These are our weapons, our shields, our swords;

In this battle we now fight.

We strive not for an earthly king,

But for our God of  Truth and Might!

May. 2, 2007 - Oww!

Yesterday I had to go to the Orthodontis. For those of you who have worn braces, or are wearing braces probably know how it hurt.My mouth is still kind sore! The docter there is very nice, but I had to have a new wire, bracket, and bands put in! Ouch!

My mouth will probably feel better in a few days. But meantime... Oh well!

Apr. 29, 2007 - The Ring-Necked Dove

This afternoon we went outside for various reasons. Dad wanted to mow the lawn, Mom wanted to clean the garage, and Britney and the boys just wanted to play around. While we were out, I saw a nest in the tree near are niegbors place, (no it wasn't on their property!) Stopping to examine it I found that it was occupied by a very pretty dove! I'm pretty sure it was a ring-neck dove. the have very remarkable eyes, they are a bright red lined with pale blue. I wanted to get a picture of it, so I went inside to get the camara. I didn't want to scare here away, so I unfprtunately coundn't get very close. The picture came out bad, there were a lot of branches and things in the way, so that you could barely see her. She was very pretty though. Maybe perhaps I could get a good pic' of her to morrow.

I also saw a logger-head srike, (please tell me if that's spelled right) she was also nesting.

                          Ta-ta for now,

Apr. 26, 2007 - Funnel Drinking Children (And Adults) DO NOT Mix!

A coupof weeks ago a friend of my Dad's came over to visit. While he was here, he asked if he could pour the water from his water bottle into a regular drinking cup (don't ask me why!). We gave him a funnel and a cup. after he had finished transffering the water from the bottle to the cup, he decide to show the boys how to shoot water from the funnel into thier mouths!

Anyway afew days ago Micah (4) decided to show Mom this "unique" trick again. Unfourtanately, he was standing a little to near the keyboard. You can imagine the results! He got juice in side the keyboard, and it would NOT come out. *Sigh* We went out to buy a new keyboard today, which makes a happy ending for all my blogging friends. I will probably be able to do another post tommorow!

                                   ~Skye

P.S

I HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
