Catching Up

From yesterday:

I haven't been in a very "Valentiny" mood so no special decorations.    I hope you all have a wonderful day with your families.  I'm giving Doug a break from PV tonight (unless I can find a good side to slip in there) and having surf and turf.  He should be very pleased.  I'm hoping to be able to make Nancy's Chocolate Lasagne for dessert.

I felt awful last night when I went to bed and woke up in the middle of the night still feeling awful.  This is one bad cold!  Still, it's not a stomach virus and I'm grateful for that.

We had more PV food last night and it was wonderful!  The Brazilian Rice was...ok.  It was Spanish rice, more or less.  The Brazilian Hot Sauce was also ok, mostly Tabasco, with a few other additions.  I can see it seasoning eggs in its future.  It seems like it'll be pretty versatile.  But the Black Bean Feijoada was dynamite!  Everyone liked it and ate copious amounts.  I'd give it a 10/10.  And it doesn't require a bunch of odd ingredients.  I think the oddest thing in there are the aforementioned chipotles in adobo sauce which you should be able to get at the grocery.  Eat it up and enjoy!  Sarah and I also made the low-fat applesauce cake (can't remember what it's actually called) and the girls had it for breakfast with their Valentine's Day Tea Party (aren't they adorable?)  It was good, a little chewy as is usually the case with low-fat quick breads.  I made it in the Bundt pan I inherited from my mom (I'll have to share the amusing story about the pan on another day) and it didn't rise very much but it was tasty nonetheless and a nice treat this morning.

From today:

My dogs are haunting my laundry room

Now, I'm just kidding, but we've got this weird thing going where the light goes on in there when no one's turned it on.  It's quite aggravating.  I keep joking that Sam and Frodo are getting us back for taking them back to the shelter by blinking our lights off and on all the time (the laundry room was their former bedroom).

Dinner last night was lovely!  I think everybody enjoyed it.  I didn't get to taste the cake, as I had a prior engagement but Friend Husband said it was wonderful in a melting voice that left no room for argument.  A few people asked how you torte (or cut) the cake into layers.  Well, it's easy.  Dental floss.  You get a piece of dental floss that's big enough to go around the layer plus some.  You wrap it around where you want to cut, make the ends lap one over the other in an "X", then pull the ends away from each other.  The dental floss will pull through the cake, thus bisecting it, and you don't have to saw through it with a knife.  The cake layers are pretty thin, so it helps to have a couple of big knives to put under them to transport them but the whole thing worked out pretty well and I understand that it tasted good too, so it's all good.

Today is our busy, out-of-the-house day.  I felt better this morning than I did yesterday morning, but still not well enough to go exercise.  I had to take a nap yesterday afternoon when the twins (miraculously) napped to get through the evening.  I'm hoping tomorrow will be better still.

Have a lovely day!
