I am so much smarter now....
now than I was 6 years ago. (And I do mean smarter, although I expect I have gained a healthy dose of wisdom, as well.) Isn't it amazing how much learning happens in our adult life? I was thinking today about St. Patrick. I never really thought much about St. Patrick before. I certainly celebrated St. Patrick's Day, being of healthy Irish stock. I had a big "Kiss Me, I'm Irish" button, which was fun to wear growing up in a little Italian town in upstate NY. I don't think I ever actually learned about St. Patrick. In fact, I think I pictured him as a leprachuan, all dressed in green and bearded. Something about snakes, too, although I got him confused with the Pied Piper. That's it! St. Patrick played his bagpipes and all the snakes left Ireland. Um, no. Because I am learning along with my children, I was able to raise my hand at our Small Group dinner a couple of weeks ago, when someone asked, "Does anyone know anything about St. Patrick?" Because I do! We are reading a fascinating piece of historical fiction right now about St. Patrick's influence on Ireland, called Flames over Tara. Not the kind of novel I would just pick up to read, but because it's part of Sonlight Core 6, I have the pleasure of reading this outloud to the kids.
Of course I learned a tremendous amount in high school, more in college, and more specifics in graduate school, but what I've learned right here at home, teaching my kids.... WOW! Learning just never stops.

I believe I have learned more these last 11 years of homeschooling than ever I did in those 12 years in PS.

My daughter once wrote,"I am glad we homeschool because when mommy was in school she didn't learn anything".
Of course I am ALWAYS saying,"I didn't know this, what DID I learn in school"?
