Because of days like today, when we can scrap everything—math, grammar, history, spelling, phonics, violin, and even orchestra—and take a hike. Soak in a big dose of river and mountain, of hemlock and rhododendron. Get our sneakers wet in the river and pocket a couple of rocks. Books and such can wait for tomorrow. Today was a day to celebrate creation, to revel in the coloring of the woods. Our journey today took us to Bald River Falls in the Cherokee National Forest, not far from Tellico Plains. Hardly a soul in sight except for a few fishermen. A great day to take a deep breath.

You've got the right idea friend. Home schooling isn't all about academics although it is an important part of it. Home schooling is about building the family and I'll warn you now. It's those trips you take where the kiddies will learn the most. They'll be what is talked about at family get togethers, not whether you finished every question in the math lesson. Believe me, I'm on the other side now and it's the family time that our girls remember best.

Looks like an absolutely beautiful day! What a georgous setting! I can't wait for spring to hit up here in Minnesota, it's still cold, wet, and gray... mid 40's today, no sun... it'll happen,
Good for you for getting out and enjoying creation!

I couldn't agree more -- I am so thankful for the opportunities that we have because we are homeschooling! There are so many things that we would miss if the kids weren't home.
What a wonderful day for you and your family!
Blessings! ~Beckie
