Randy and I both grew up in game-playing families (although his was primarily a card-playing family), and we are determined to carry on this tradition with our own kids. We like all the traditional games: Life, Monopoly, Yahtzee, Candyland (must be played with real candy placed around the board), Hi-Ho Cherry-o, Clue, Scrabble, Cranium, RummiKub, etc. We are always on a quest for new games that at least 2 out of the 3 kids can play, depending on their ages. I also love games that add an educational flair to our school day. Here are some of our favorite finds:

So those are a few of our favorites, besides the old stand-bys. We're always in the market for new games, so leave a comment if you have a favorite, and--in the spirit of Apples-to-Apples--convince me that we should try this for our family!

For Christmas we got a couple of games that everyone in the family loves- Settlers of Catan and Dread Pirate. Corbin played Dread Pirate as a team with Shane because it is only a four player game and right now there are five of us, but I feel very confident it wouldn't be too difficult for him. Both games were awarded "game of the year" when they were introduced.

Your games look great. I'm always on the lookout for new ones and really appreciate when someone takes the time to recommend their favourites. I'll have to look for these ones - lately we've been game crazy!
When are you getting your 365 blog up? I'm looking forward to your photos

We like playing games in our house...and esp. after our church new year's eve party where we played Chicken Foot Dominos 'til almost 1:30 in the morning we're in the rage of playing games again! :) Thanks for new ideas; I don't think I'd heard of any of 'em. You play these games during your school day as part of your studies?

Thanks for all the great game reviews! We have games like Yahtzee and cards, of course. The girls want the new Cadoo game (I think it's new--new to me LOL). We also play some fun games like "Pirate Math" (a Haba game from Germany) and of course, Uno :)

We play games all the time. No one has yet mentioned Set, which teaches set theory in a fun way. Our oldest daughter got Qwirkle for her 11th birthday in December. It is like Scrabble with shapes and colors. We love it! Even the 6 year old is competitive. Another great game is Illuminati, which is a weird conspiracy theory card game. I think we use games in school work more than we actually use textbooks!
