Evolution, Sex, and Government Power

Why does freedom matter?  Here's what happens if you don't have it:

OTTAWA - The Quebec Ministry of Education has told unlicensed Christian evangelical schools that they must teach Darwin's theory of evolution and sex education or close their doors after a school board in the Outaouais region complained the provincial curriculum was not being followed.

"Quebec children are legally required to follow the provincial curriculum ... but these evangelical schools teach their own courses on creationism and sexuality that don't follow the Quebec curriculum," said Pierre Daoust, director-general of the Commission Scolaire au Coeur-des-Vallees in Thurso, Que.

Homeschoolers in Quebec still have an exemption from this rule.  Is it paranoid to suspect that special exception won't last long?

4/24/2004 - Government bans Religious materials for B.C. home schooling

Scott, this actually already happened for homeschoolers who accept government assistance in B.C.

Unfortunately, the story is no longer up on Canada.com.
-------
Government bans Religious materials for B.C. home schooling
Home-schooling parents are fuming after the B.C. Education Ministry ordered thousands of them to stop using faith-based materials -- or any other "unofficial" resource -- when teaching their children at home.
Many parents, including some who aren't religious, say they will cut their ties with the school system rather than obey the directive. "They can't tell me what to do in my own home," said Pamela Nagle, whose son is home-schooled but attends a Langley school one day a week.

Well...

it's just a matter of time. The UK & Canada give us a peak into our future if we continue on the present course.

That sounds more like a logical conclusion that paranoia!

I am SO thankful that we live and teach in Texas...but I am not naiive enough to think that this type of thinking won't eventually reach us. It's not like we can really count on the court system...
