Nickolodeons Then and Now

"Nickelodeon" didn't always mean a cartoon channel.  Back in 1906, it was a hot new technology that appealed to the underclass: cheap, silent cinema that the theatre-going "elites" ignored.  There's been a lot written on the early history of the movie industry.  One thing I've picked up on is how effective the first-generation Jewish immigrants were in learning this new technology.  The New York nickolodeon producers in 1906 grew up into Hollywood movie producers in 1936.

"Nickolodeon" today is a cable channel, and I'm afraid the kids who are glued to that tube aren't going to be running much of the world 30 years from now.  This century's  "nickelodeon" may be the blog.  I predict that some homeschoolers who are blogging today will dominate American media within a generation--if Christ doesn't come back first.
